Put this on your must see list ! It’s not easy to get to, a fun winding road to get there very off the main road, but seriously worth it. The redwoods - and ferns - on an easy to walk path.

Decent parking and easily accessible restroom when you first enter. Theres also a couple of picnic tables tucked into the shade of the redwoods at the entrance. The beginning of the trail has a steep incline that some with mobility issues may find difficult to climb but once youre beyond that it is a beautiful, serene hike among the giants. The redwood groves have an ethereal and primordial feel about them. Since we had 4 kids with us we didnt hike the entire 2 mile loop but they really enjoyed the adventure as well. All in all it is a fantastic, family friendly, magical experience.

Incredible nature and trees. A much better option than going to the Avenue of the giants, you walk, breathe, enjoy the silence and harmony of the place. Impressive natural surroundings, gigantic sequoias, creeks, moss, newts, ferns, the place is wonderful, the highlight of our trip from Seattle to Sacramento.

The adventure is out here. Driving through the curves of the valley and discovering this sanctuary was really neat. These magical trees make you feel like you stepped into a prehistoric era of nature. The trees are immensenly tall and the plant life feels like Jurassic time era.

Well worth the long drive down the winding and seamlessly never ending narrow mountain roads. A retreat in the forest grove nestled in a valley with quiet windless air. The ferns and damp moss pad your feet under the trail as you descend into natural serenity. Somehow, I could hear the whisps of songs played in the distance seemingly to summon the faeries and elfen folk.

I would rate a 5 - but the windy drive into the middle of nowhere is for the determined. That said, if you want to see the big trees in this area, you will find some spectacular trees here, along with a rather raw old growth forest. Hike up a modest Hill for perhaps 10 minutes - and the trail drops into the first Grove with big trees. Impressive. Dont be deterred by the initial hill. After that, all easy walking. The trail is not really marked well as a loop. Work your way up the small valley and once you get to the footbridge with railings - turn around. If you go farther and find the stump with the rock stacks - turn around, there is nothing more. Our group hiked 15 minutes past that, as we saw no clear indicator of the end of the trail or loop in the trail.Well worth the drive.

Im still cracking up at the review that says nothing here but a bunch of redwoods. I thought he was joking, but he was serious. This place is magical. Special. Wander. Dont throw trash on the ground. Be amazed. Thunk about the thousands of years these trees have been here. And if youre heading towards Ukiah, have fajitas at Taqueria Michoacan at the end of the day.

This place is beautiful! The greens are so green! And the browns are so reddish brown. Large trees all around, and at least a few lying on the ground. The hike is pretty simple and straight forward. Not a lot of hiking up - all of the climb is in the beginning. After that its quite flat.We found a few frogs inside, which was nice. But couldnt find any salamanders, even after we looked for a while. Its nicer when its raining, I think.

Small National Park with a lot of Big Trees. Its a 1,5h hike going in a loop and really worth it! Has only a small parking area and very basic restroom at the parking area. On the path through the park are signs with information about differerent topics regarding flora and fauna. We really enjoyed it there.

You walk up a steep hill for about 15 minutes. At the top, you go down for a little way to enter the first Redwood grove. A step back in time. The quiet of the conifer forest, the fragrance of the forest is a splendid symphony. A great get away.

In my opinion not worth the drive... trail was not well marked. Large Redwoods are always nice too look at; The giant ferns were nice... but the loop was not well maintained and the star of the show The Mendocino Tree was not clearly marked. kind of a bummer to me.the road in was also in disrepair, so be ready for a rough ride.

How fantastic of an experience. It reminded me of the land before time. The trail gets a little intermittent as it follows a stream, but how impressive. My pup was sad he had to wait in the vehicle, but after crossing paths with a rough skinned newt, I was glad I followed the rules and didnt disturb their environment. There is also a sweet hot spring resort close by(appointment only).

Well off the beaten path, Orr Spring Rd which leads to the park is rather rough. Beautiful, unmanicured Redwood groves put the likes of Muir Woods to shame. This nature reserve contains the largest Redwoods south of Humboldt County, although they are unmarked so youll need to do some of your own exploring! Trails are unmarked and often flooded during the rainy season so come prepared.

This is one of the rare big redwood groves in the county. cool in summer. Montgomery creek runs through Montgomery flat. pretty easy hike. about one third of the reserve burned in 2008 lightning fires. south fork big river runs under the bridge on orr springs road. theres a side road in the reserve with a metal bridge that goes to private property.

Ma
Review №64

The most amazing, natural, easy to walk yet raw nature forest experience you can have. Ive been to many redwood forests and parks, this is the absolute top! Its low-maintenance without the masses of people and craziness of a Muir Woods. The trees are bigger, more impressive. Some groves do feel like you are entering sacred space and connecting with Gaia. There are a couple of uphills at the start and some up/down in the middle of the trail, so its not easy for older folks or those with disabilities. However, for the average city dweller, or families with kids, this is a dream and very easy to do.

Da
Review №65

I hate to even rate this place bc its so amazingly beautiful that I want to be greedy and never have anyone else go way out on a curvy road to find it. But, sigh. Its so wonderful that it would be wrong not to share this public resource. All I can say to dissuade some people is that getting to the old growth trees does require walking up a hill. And parking is scarce.

Great park for a short hike... pay attention to your distance traveled as there are clearly paths that are much longer in distance than the loop which isnt on any state park maps. Lots of mosquitoes too. The trees are beautiful so if you are in the area its worth a trip; not sure its worth a trip if you arent already around.

Loved the drive, and hiking among the redwoods. Quite the experience. Be aware - there are basically no signs marking the trail, and eventually we got to place that was hard to cross without the proper hiking shoes, so we didnt end up hiking the whole 3 miler (couldnt make out the trail or where it looped around). Still, spent close to an hour hiking and it was fantastic!!! :)

Review №78

Its a bit of a drive to get to Montgomery Woods, but its worth it. After a short (but fairly taxing) hike, youll be dropped into a primeval redwood grove. These trees are massive, and there are large spaces between them, creating a cathedral-like quality. Because of its remoteness, there are rarely many other visitors here – often youll be the only person in the entire grove, which is quite an experience.

Magnificent Redwood groves. Worth the somewhat twisty and bumpy ride (from Ukiah) or slightly more farmed (from Comptche/Navarro). The area is dazzlingly quiet, and cool. If you take the path to the left from the parking area, you eventually reach a grove and a looping path that is fairly level and about 1 mile long. A really fabulous detour when driving through northern California.
