The Tucson Museum of Art is a wonderful gallery and a must visit. It has a great collection of local and national artists as well as some classics. Set in a beautiful building, you wind your way through different themes and special exhibitions. The museum was under construction during our visit, but the areas that were still open were great. The gift shop though?! SO. HOT. I felt hot though the whole tour, but it was 104° outside and I just never seemed to cool down with all of the lights. There are some amazing works that youre going to want to spend a lot of time looking at. Like the piece in the second photo. Every inch, something new to see.

I am not an art expert. The museum helped to expose me to some culture and show me the arts. This museum also participated in the Blue Star Museum initiative to permit active duty military access to museums. Thank you for showing us the arts. There were many displays in this museum in the guts of Tucson. It is much bigger than it looks outside. It has many levels with different medias of artwork ranging from sculptures to paintings. The local artists present a wonderful depiction of southwestern lifestyles. Take the time to escape the heat and absorb the amazing achievements of humankinds gift of God given artistry.

Usually very enjoyable but since construction is going on a lot of the exhibits were closed.... And you couldnt see all the wonderful art they have. They should really only charge half price since you can only see half of the exhibits right now. Its not that expensive to get in but I think it would be great customer service while under construction. I still love the museum and would definitelyrecommend it to others. Ill will most definitely go back..... Only after the construction when I can enjoy the whole museum. We were able to take a few good photos .

There was also crafts and crafts for the kids. I only had a short time to view some of the works of contemporary masters, as well as modern and Native Artists.

The current Exhibit was just starting the day we were there and a welcome surprise for sure. For town this size, this museum can really stand in its own two feet. Its architecture is stunning, and the exhibits inside are remarkable. From structural art to famous paintings, this place really showcases a wide variety of art forms.I think what I was most surprised by that it seems to have a little something for everybody. I tend to enjoy most styles of Arts so this isnt a problem for me, but for people who are looking for more of a singular and whole experience, and to really dig into one particular type of art, this might not be for you. But I can say that some of the exhibits are very remarkable, and have some very reputable artists inside them.

This is a museum that will soon be changing as it was recently endowed with $2.5MM, the largest donation it has ever received. The layout is a staircase that goes downwards, similar to the Guggenheim. The docents are amazing and really the main attraction at this museum, so go on a tour.Excited for the future of this museum!

This museum is amazing. There is so much to see, and so little time.Pros: The art exhibits are exquisite. Theres a manual that you can refer to for each item on display. Every room has a different feel, and you know what you want to do at the very beginning. There is so much to see, but I decided to visit only a few themes. I didnt want to overwhelm myself, which is why Ive decided to break this event up into several trips. I know it will be worth it. I made the mistake of coming through the cafe when I first arrived. Im glad that I did because I will be sure to stop and try out the delicacies on my next visit. The gallery docents were very friendly and took the time to get to know me and my guest. We didnt feel rushed and had a lovely conversation and introduction to the museum. There is also a room dedicated for children as well. All ages are welcomed, but this room was a highlight for me because I will plan to bring my kid with me on the next visit. This was an excellent experience and I recommend it highly. I will be visiting more often in the near future and this is why this museum scored so highly with me.Cons: There is a 2 hour maximum parking if you want to be near the museum. Otherwise, extended parking is a short walk away.

A gem of a place in downtown Tucson. They have expanded some galleries since I had been here several years ago. A great permanent collection of Southwestern art and Mexican folk art. Interesting shows rotate through the year. I love the Guggenheim-esque spiraling ramp that takes you down to the first and second levels. I’m sure it’s going to have some surprises in store when they finish redoing the courtyard.

This was the first place we visited on our first day in Tucson. I loved the Navajo rugs, French sculptures, Indian paintings & the colorful “devil’s dance” masks. Totally enjoyed our time here. Then on the way out I saw the adobe structure. I’m impressed that the city acquired this structure for preservation in perpetuity. As we exited the museum we stopped at the lovely cafe’ for a drink & snack & sat outdoors. Very cute cafe’.

We just moved to town and decided to visit the museum as a family activity, and I am SO grateful we did! First of all, they partner with local libraries to hand out free passes, and it offered so much beautiful art that we were there for two hours and still didn’t see everything. There are a couple of nice spots for a quick lunch, either from the cafe or brought from home. The staff is unbelievably friendly and are so good with kids, it made the whole trip worth it just to chat with a few staff members. We went on a Saturday afternoon but it was still so quiet and un-busy that my 1.5 year old could freely explore (with Mom and Dad close by, of course!) and really enjoy herself. We are VERY much looking forward to coming back to see the other buildings and new exhibits as they come out!

This art museum has a focus on modern and historical artworks. There are a number of amazing, classic works in the main collection and there are always some great works of art either on tour or in the rotation. I love that it’s quiet. If youre just visiting this would be a great place to get a feel for Tucson - the museum reflects the citys art sophistication and the historic block offers a glimpse of its diversity and fun. I live here but somehow I had missed this gem until recently. Now that I know, it is on my must-see list for our visitors and as a place to go to relax. Try to go on a day/time when there is live music in the courtyard.

We went for First Thursday Free night. Theres live music, bar, arts & crafts and of course a wide variety of art. The music and drinks are upstairs which is nice because then you can go to the many lower levels and think/converse about the art in a quieter setting. The Fish house has a small exhibit & gift shop-great gifts, pretty pricey in our opinion though. The Hiram Stevens house Cafe a la Cart is a neat, historical building-outside concrete & stone garden bench tell a story. Beautiful original artwork. We were fascinated by the cloud paintings and the oil painting you had to stand back to see cattle & horse figures. We enjoyed discussing all the art; trying to understand the artists & artwork. The room with the living trees was fascinating.Overall well worth the trip. It took us about 90 mins, but you could go much slower or somewhat faster depending on your likes. The museum is under construction so theres a few things closed but you can still have a wonderful experience. Parking on the streets or in lot right across from the Fish House is available.

Art museum grew up later than most museums in USA. Has great pieces through time and genre. European art as seen through idealised American European sensibilities, dealing towards romanticised emotionalism. Well laid out in a architecturally pleasing building with galleries seamlessly melding into each other. Educating without overwhelming, great for a visit. Their cafe needs a new dishwasher.
