If anyone invites your child to try youth hockey I’d strongly suggest you do your family a huge favor by spitting in their face and walking away. The time and financial demands are, in my opinion, so outrageous as to be unconscionable. I’ve found the negative impact on our family to be simply staggering. I feel like we are held hostage, year round, to this sport. The number of times our plans have been ruined because a hockey practice, clinic, or tournament was suddenly scheduled is too great to count.The only positive has been the coaches our children have had. Like any organization, there are a few that are really terrible. Overall, though, they have been excellent. They have taught the kids to be competitive and aggressive while also showing good sportsmanship. I just wish this factor weren’t completely outweighed by all the negatives.
