This a beautiful and inviting space with a diverse variety of captivating art. There are so many striking pieces, from painting and sculpture to intricate kinetic jewelry. The large format original pieces in front will beckon you to enter and the prints and smaller pieces in the boutique in the rear of the gallery wont break your pocketbook. Its a perfect mix.

I am delighted that Higher Arts Gallery has found a home on Union Street in downtown Traverse City and for tastemaker Shanny Brookes efforts to fill a ready gap in the budding contemporary arts scene. At the opening in late November, my brother and I both purchased wonderful metallic, ceramic half-world wall globes made by a gifted Grand Rapids artist featured in the gallery. I can always find room in my home for original art and marvel at the originality of the artists whose work is being showcased in this new gallery. And I love that my brother, like me, has become an enthusiastic art collector. It makes life even more interesting! I love attending gallery openings, a regular weekend event I enjoyed while living and teaching in Boston. As a newcomer to TC, I am also thrilled to be teaching encaustic (hot wax) painting classes at Higher Arts gallery, commencing this month. There is nothing better than injecting some new creative endeavor into the winter months while we wait for spring to roll around again. Ive spent several years nurturing the creativity of my students. Encaustic is a great medium for beginners to explore and has broad possibilities for more experienced artists. Its one of those things you just have to experience with your own hands and eyes. I look forward to introducing the hot wax to my new circle of students and being part of this offering in a place that is ready for something new and different. Call Shanny at Higher Arts Gallery for more info on upcoming classes. Anne Kneller, Visual Artist
