Its a giant bird statue... And contrary to what my sister always told people, is most definitely is NOT named after her - it was part of the WREN am Topeka radio station (1947-1993) that was out of Lawrence Kansas. The bird was once bought and scheduled to be moved to Branson Missouri, however it ended up staying and being restored by a local artist. Today it sits over at the intersection of Topeka Blvd and Huntoon (12th and Topeka), where if you want to pull off the road for a picture you most certainly can - but please be careful of motorvehicle traffic as this is a highly busy area no matter what day of the week it is - it IS, after all, just a giant concrete bird...
I was a nice quick stop spot on our X country trip. Statue is in good shape for being out doors. The park area has some street parking and is a decent area to walk around in.
Nice statue of a wren. But it’s a big claim to say this is the world’s largest. My buddy has one twice the size.
As an avid fan for quirky roadside attractions this is definately a huge bird! Its a bit sun faded sits prominently in a little grass park between busy streets. There is a pull off spot to park so you can get up close to view it. My 4 star rating is the lack of info plaque. There is some info online but the statue sits with no credit to the artist or explaination.
Probably not a lot of people interested in this statue although it has historical significance to Topeka. We were here to take my Mothers picture with the statue like she had done in 1950. Close to Kansas Capitol Bldg. Another point of interest.
Whats not to love about the worlds largest (and probably only) wren statue? Its a brown larger than life size bird sitting on a pedestal on the side of the road on Topeka Blvd., in Topeka, Ks. Interesting fact, the MeadowLark is the State Bird of Kansas, not the Wren. *the more you know*
A tranquil little park in the middle of the hustle and bustle of city life.
