Love that theres an off leash beach just for dogs! The sunset was gorgeous and we had a great time. Theres.not a double gate here so be careful coming and going. When the tide is low, one side of the fence doesnt go far enough into the water so watch your pups around the rocks near the pier. Super cool spot though!
So nice to have a park where dogs can run free, swim and play together. More municipalities should include places for our four legged family members. It would be nice to be a little larger area with some additional canine play sets like an obstacle or confidence course for the dogs. Still one of the best places in the state to bring your companion. Follow on instagram @minnesota_max #minnesota_max
You would never find this place if you didn’t already know it exists and the directions how to get there. However once you’re there, it is a beautiful unimproved stretch of dog beach without crowds or high-rise hotels. Let your pooch express their inner mullet hound!note: it’s pretty far away from things like restaurants, and I believe the bathrooms are not exactly super high class, so remember to pack some food and drink in, and take note of where you might need to use the facilities.
Great park where puppers can access the beach OFF LEASH! Disposable bags there as well. Hose to wash em down after. Public bathrooms a short walk away. Awesome to see dogs running around playing with each other. Folks, lets not forget... THEYRE DOGS! Sometimes, theyre might be a little rough housing... might be some dominating and some submission (& certainly no one wants their dog to be injured), but theyre just playing. If you dont want this type of behavior around your dog, dont come here. Seriously, with all due respect. Being a dog owner my entire life, I saw dogs playing today. Lol & it was GREAT!
SUPER SKETCHY TO GET TO! We drove through so much construction and industrial parks. Theres two poop bag stations which is really convenient. We cam across one dog which was growling through the gate and had some threatening behavior but all was fine, its about a 2 acre stretch down the beach line and we made our space. Picnic tables are mostly located next to trees for shade but the water looks kinda scary to step in. The water hose/bowl and water fountains are right next to the entrance gate nobody else mentioned the restrooms which were pretty clean and located at the entrance by the parking lot, hard to miss blue building but no showers for people
This is a cool little park, they hit a disc golf course which is fun and you don’t find often. Same fir the dog beach, I’m from Cali and I thought that was cool cause you don’t see that often. The doggies were having a blast too :) they also got a people beach, fishing piers, boat launch, beautiful views of the bay and picnic/bbq areas that can be reserved. I went here to go running, but it wasn’t a great spot for that.
Very cool place to take your special fury children! Was my first time there so didnt know what to expect. Met a bunch of really nice people with wonderful dogs and considering that we showed up at 12:30, it wasnt very packed for a Saturday. Our little one had a great time playing and meeting new friends. I just wish the water was a little cleaner so us humans could jump in and play as well. Will definitely go back in the future.
This was a park I had not been to yet. I have a goal of bringing my dogs to every public dog park in Hillsborough County. It is grungy as others have described. Maybe on par or a little bit worse than the Davis Islands dog beach in terms of the ick factor. I appreciate that the City of Tampa has made this fenced dog beach available, though. The nearby dog park at Gadsden Park is a better option in that area, even sans beach. I may go back near sunset one day to see what the view looks like over the water, but that will probably be it as it is not worth the drive.
Its a great dog beach. It has a doggie water fountain, poop bags, a rinse-hose, picnic tables shade. What keeps it from 5 stars is the lack of restrooms for their human companions.Because we always have our paddleboards and wanted to see if the little dog would enjoy it (the big one is a big chicken), we did that this time. That water was great for paddling...no, its not the most picturesque but will do again.PS. Yes tye little one loved it.
The dog park is not clearly pointed out, we actually drove past it the first time. When we did find it the beach is all rocky and sharp coral. The water was green and nasty and because of all the algae the whole area smelled like an outhouse. Didnt take any photos because it was just that gross. Davis Island is a much nicer dog park.
Large fenced off area for the dogs with water to play in. Nice shaded areas to get out if the sun and many benches to sit on. Much bigger than davis island dog beach, with more shade and more areas to sit. Our new favorite!
First of all, the Dog Park has the worst signage. Much harder to find than necessary. For the record, park in the first parking lot towards the far left corner nearest the pier. The dog park can be reached by walking across the grass and entering through a non-descript gateway entrance. Secondly, the park was very nice for dogs other than being a bit poopy. If your dog doesnt recall well then they could easily get around the border fences via the water and just run off. Poor signage and potential to lose your dog offset the beautiful landscape.
Great little beach and Park. Very nice views. They have areas for picnics and ultimate Frisbee. The beach is pretty impressive and very convenient if youre just trying to catch a good sun set. The park is much larger than you expect. When you pull in theres an area with a parking lot but if you keep going youll see that theres several more areas with parking and different activities throughout the park. great for sun sets ️ dog friendly beach area picnic/BBQ area plenty of parking Again, this is a great little hidden gem if youre looking to catch a sun set or need a place to think!
If youre looking for a dog beach that you can bring your dog and let him go in the water without having to be on a lease, this is the place. Its a very beautiful little beach the water is very Shelly and Rocky so bring some flip-flops if you plan on going in the water. They have some nice shady areas a little field to run around in and play a tree has to sit for shade. There are no public bathrooms here but the park itself has a disc golf course had a nice little Park, they have a little fishing. And go out and fish off of however, the parking lot is small.
Pros: Youre dog can be off leash on the beach! There is fresh water available for the dogs to drink. Shaded seating is also available.Cons: The water is gross. It is warm and full of seaweed. It smells like dead fish.
Nice area for dogs to play and stay cool. The water is not the best but dogs dont care. When your done, you can wash them before leaving.
Went there tp play Disc Gollf and Loved the long corse .
Somewhat of a hidden gem. Looks like the County has done a good job with updates and repairs. Facilities are all in good shape. Lots of space to walk dogs, fish, picnic, frisbee golf, etc.
Im not a huge fan of many public dog parks, but I enjoy coming here during the week, during the day. Its quiet, minimal people and dogs, those I do see are respectful for the most part, and do not force any interactions. Which allows me plenty of space to bring my nervous dogs (kept on a long leash for safety) and allow them to explore and enjoy the area without being approached by too many dogs at once (which overwhelms them.) Coming here in this atmosphere has allowed them both to get accustomed to being around other dogs in small quantities, in situations which I can easily control their interactions to ensure theyre positive. Theyve even made a few friends. I wouldnt come on a weekend or in the evening when its busy. But during the week its just slow enough for us.
Our husky loved it! Just watch the end fence line, has a hole and she scooted out. Overall good experience though, spent hours playing with other dogs!
Our dog loves it here. Sometimes the seaweed smells a little but this is a great place to take your dog to release some energy. He loves to go running in the water, racing other dogs, and sniffing all the bushes. He also loves welcoming all new dogs to the beach by standing right by the gate when they are trying to enter lol.
Great place to go with your family and pets. Great picnic shelter and grill. Very clean. However, if your going for some beach kinda fun, not the place to go. There is a small area with sand to sit and relax but dont recommend for swimming. Water is kinda murky. Maybe great for fishing. But all n all, nice and secluded and not cramped with a lot of people. Quiet..
Fenced in Beach area for dogs to run free, play and socialize. Could do with one or two more picnic tables. Watch out for sharp shells and broken glass near the perimeter.
We visited today in the heat this fall afternoon. It was hot but the salty breeze off the water and a few shade trees helped. It was deserted which was perfect for our first dog park experience. It was clean and there was water available and a hose. The gate seemed secure even for a tiny dog. A bonus...we got to see Quaker Parrots playing in the sand!
Great public beach that also offers disc golf and a dog park. It was great letting my 4 legged friend run around and check out all those smells that intrigue her.
It was a great place to get engaged. Sunset was beautiful. Fiancee was completely surprised.
Hidden in Deep South Tampa, just past Port Tampa, this place is beautiful. Its never crowded, and its the perfect place to sit and take in the sunset. Please dont leave your trash around for the wildlife to get hurt on!
Good outing picnic pubs enjoy ️️
This park is pretty, but weird. It is weird because its located in the middle of a highly industrial area. This park also had quite a few weird people hanging around. One guy was half naked and talking to himself and another guy was relieving himself in the bushes. So, I just got a weird vibe. But, for the good stuff...The grounds are clean and very lovely. Plus, the views are gorgeous! As this park is on the southwest side of Tampa Bay, you can see downtown St. Petersburg and the Trop from one of the beaches. That was pretty cool. There were a couple of nice playgrounds and there were a bunch of picnic pavilions. I do not have a dog, but I saw a lot of people at the dog park. There were a lot of people using this park and it was a Monday morning so it does seem to be very popular.
My experience today was amazing! All the dogs that came to play were friendly and we had a great group going. Dogs from a little white cotton ball dog to a great Dane were playing nicely together. The water is clean enough for humans and dogs to enjoy and it is completely fenced in. Difficult to find if youve never been there before, but Im referring to the park that is near the boat dock, just to the left. They have picnic tables, doggy bags, trash cans, a water bowl, and a hose.
Nice place, the only thing that I do not like is the MOSQUITOES that will eat you alive ... you should be prepared :)
Very nice, it had a stinky Black Sea grass!! The stench was terrible but the sunset Amazing!!
Great location, clean enough water for swimming and a great place to bring the dog as they have a dog friendly pet park!!
Great place to relax and find peace...there is alot to do there...they have grills n easy access to the water n as you can see the sun sets are breath taking...
We had a great time. Our little Milo met somany new friends. We wish there was another water station and that the south gate was open to the other side of the beach. We also enjoyed this silly pitbull hanging from a tree. We look forward to going back soon.
Nice peaceful park, large park area, plenty of seating. Nice place to have a family picnic are a family reunion.
Beautiful! Park has many picnic tables & covered structures. Also has a fishing pier, disc golf course, boat ramp, 2 child playgrounds and restroom facilities that are actually stocked. We saw mullet jumping & a horseshoe crab!!! So much fun!
Nice small dog beach it’s a great place to actually be able to let your furry friend run free. My only complaint was that some people should actually pay attention to wear their pet is every now and then but overall a great puppy beach
Beautiful ️ Peaceful and Clean.. #SaltLife
This is a beautiful place. My dog loved it too
Great park with spread out green spaces and lots of room to roam! Frisbee golf course and DOG BEACH make this a perfect place to spend a couple of hours with your favorite fur baby. Picnic areas and plenty of shade.. public restrooms and a pier to fish from.. and of course a great view of Tampa Bay!
Not very busy, water can be gross but no cuts or illness after! Pretty space for the doggies!
Good fishing great beach area past the dog park
You travel through an industrial Tampa port area to find this park but it is a pleasant surprise once youve been there. There is a pier near the entrance that is open 24 hours. The park has many pavilions to reserve. There is a great long strip of beach with clean sand. Viewable and close to many of the pavilions.
The park at Picnic Island still isnt nearly as cool as it was in the 70s (totally dating myself) but the fishing there is still on point, the pier stays lit up and open all night long.
Very nice place to take your dog. When I went it was during the week. There was nobody else on the beach. My dog Lilah loved it. Lots of trees for shade and picinic area with covering was there as well
A huge space for leash-free play. There are shaded tables, a washing station, 3 tier water fountains, and poop stations. It is a little rocky - if you bring kids, bring water shoes. The rocks dont bother my pup.I hear its super packed on weekends, so we go during the week, when theres only 2-3 other dogs.
-Nice view of county side sunset-Ample amount of free Parking-Nice sunset view-All basic amenities available on the site-Old Tampa bay shore-visited in the evening- can be best place for picnic- shelters are present- dog park- kids friendly place- free Parking
I love this place great area to get great big fish
Take my dog here all the time. Great that even dogs can run on the beach. We need more places like this in the Tampa Bay Area.
Visiting this beach was great! When we arrived we set out on the Sandy shores of Picnic Island and watched the sunset as the sky went golden.
Great place for the pups to enjoy the outdoors.
It continues to amaze me that there are places in there beautiful stayed Ive never seen before I will be back for this one!
Fun place for both the old and young. Also dog friendly too. The park and beach are all in the same park. There is a boat launch ramp too...
BEAUTIFUL views. Great date. Looking forward to bringing my son there.
Picnic Island has been a beautiful spot for South Tampa folks for many years. Now visitors from all over come to enjoy the water, natural beauty, and family (pet) friendly activities.Another plus is the efforts being made to restore the island back to its indigenous state.
Cool place for picnics, wandering the beach and theres even a boat dock!
Love this place. The best dog beach in Florida!!!
Not the best dog beach in Tampa Bay. It’s a very rocky and shelly beach that has stinky sludge during low tide. My dog had fun, but unbeknownst to us while we were there, her paws got SLICED from the rocks in the water and on the shore. Each foot has slices and open wounds. We won’t be taking her again. Btw bring your own doggy poop bags. They were out and owners were leaving the poop on the ground because they didn’t have their own bags.
Got married at sunset
Perfectly peaceful
Nice little park to take the pups.
A nice dog beach on the bay, the only negative is the strong smell from the seaweed, which makes it hard to stay for too long
Great Beach! We went to the dog park section. We had a blast playing around and swimming. Good amount of space and love how its fenced in against the water. The beach is a bit rocky though so bring some sandals!
Awesome dog beach...your pup will love it..has a 2 hose washdown area...picnic tables and benches
Favorite local dog park. One of the best parts of being a Floridian is being able to go to a dog park at the beach ️
The place was great to let your dog run free, but it was not a place to swim and enjoy the beach or water.
We had a great morning here. The dogs and the people were all very friendly.
Its a dog beach. How can it be anything but perfect?
Fenced in beach area. Lots of rocks in the water near shoreline but dogs can go out past it. Places to sit in shade. Gets busy on weekends. Most of the dogs friendly with attentive owners. They only clean the beach once a year so the seaweed and debris does build up and tend to smell by summers end.
Love this place & so did our pup!
Brought back do many childhood memories. Still a nice place.
This park is a hidden gem. Never knew it existed. But the area is very nice. Time and Time again you get an awesome sea breeze. They have grills to BBQ and like most parks here in Tampa areas you can reserve for parties etc.The best part that I seen was that it has a boat launch to the Bay. So if you wanna get out on the water with your water craft you can go here. Nothing to big tho.I recommend this park to outdoor lovers. Oh there are a few nice fishing spots as well.
This place is great our dog loved the water its truly an off leash beach ..love it here
Nice run for dogs & humans
This park was a lot bigger than I thought, so much space for anything. Lots of places to sit with tabling and have a party or a get together. The water wasnt so clear though, there was a pack of dolphins that were a few feet away and I could not see them at all, just their phins going in and out of the water.
Great beach for dogs and their owners!
Cruiser had a great time. Met some new friends.
Simple but not as much of a tourist trap as other places. Not crowded. Blue water. Liked it better than the clear water beach.
I love love love this beautiful beach....come one come all..but please remember to take your trash with you...there was a lot beer bottle tops on the ground within arms reach of a trash can!
Andy and I always want to have fun at the dog park and Picnic Island Dog Beach definitely delivered! Were not from the area but now that we found this spot, anytime were back in Tampa we are going here for sure! Total blast!
Very convenient and nice place for a picnic. Has large grills and pavilions.
Genesis and i love this doggie beach. Our fave!
Theres a group of 30 to 40 somethings that go here at around 4pm and verbally harass anyone else who brings their own dog. We were at far end of dog beach when a pack of their digs attacked us. When I projected my little chihuahua, They chased me n my recently adopted dog out of park stating that him on a leash was a problem.
It was so beautiful. We found some horseshoe crabs and thousands of baby hermit crabs. I also almost stumbled into a nest of fiddler crabs. Im glad I saw them. ♡♡♡
My dog had so much fun at this park! It was clean and spacious. I appreciate that they’ve provided a hose to wash them off!
Beautiful park and a great place to hold an event!
All fenced in so the dogs can run around without worrying about them escaping
All in all the beach was okay, there was nothing that really wowed me but I would definitely go back with my dog there. I would not recommend this place for families just because I personally believe there are better beaches nearby, like Anna Marie or Pass-A-Grille. There were a lot of mosquitos when I went, which I found strange because I don’t usually get mosquito bites when I go to the beach. Another thing was that where we were for a bit the water made the sand very mushy was was very uncomfortable but it was probably due to the low current. Lastly, if you do want to go keep in mind it is a $4 charge to get in if you go independently or $8 if you go with a group.
I love this beach, theres tons of wildlife here, horseshoe and hermit crabs and sand dollars are always fun to play with. Theres a pier to walk out and fish from looking out across the bank toward the towering buildings, and industrial areas to another side, fauna and Flora every where. My kids love this place more than the other beaches.
Awesome people and plenty of space for all dogs to run free. We have 2 small dogs, and had no issues with the big dogs or their owners.
Great picnic are and play ground for the childrens.
Very pretty beach - very clean area. Dogs are usually well socialized and playful. One of the nicest dog parks in the area
