It was a fun stop on my way to orlando. The front desk lady knew a lot of the history about it. Theres so much history there so it would be a great stop for any history buffs. Youre able to go in the old courtroom and roam around. Oh yeah its free!

Free admission - great 90 second summary of the history from the hosts at the front door. Then you are free to wander and look at the exhibits. They have a worksheet for kids (or adults) to learn things as you explore. It takes an hour to wander the whole thing - probably 2 if you were more serious about reading all the displays.

They use to teach history in Florida high schools. Not so much now anymore. A must stop to see is Floridas Historic Capital Building in Tallahassee. Our states history is witnessed in the original Capitol Building. The volunteers that run the museum are helpful and knowledgeable about all that Florida was, and has become. The museum is free to enter and see all of the historic displays. And when youre finished browsing the museum, you can walk thru the courtyard area and enter the new Florida Capitol Building that houses the Florida Executive offices as well as the Florida Senate and Congressional offices.

This is a beautiful well kept historic site. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area, even if it is just in passing. We only had a couple of hours in town and we spent over an hour here. We could spend lots more time there and seen a lot more.

I really enjoyed my time there. Im not from America, so when I found out about certain flags, what the governors office use to look like, the old house, etc., it was exciting for me. Plus, their wifi was good enough that I could video call my sister and show her what it looked like from my perspective. She really enjoyed that since shes in 3rd grade and theyre learning about government.

The original state Capitol! It is still intact, and you can explore it at your leisure for free. There are exhibits that showcase a bit if Florida history, and history of the building as well. The Senate and the house meeting rooms are still set up as they would have been, as well as the governors office. It is a cool look into the past with a few interesting tidbits and activities, but dont expect to spend more than an hour of your time here. While you are here, make sure to check out the rest of the campus, including the current Capitol!

Great place to see part of Floridas History! The building is beautifully restored, and the exhibits were just enough to learn about the past without being overwhelming. There were quite a few things for kids to do, but more hands on exhibits for kids would be great. No admission fee was an added plus!

Great for kids...check out the moon lander simulator for kids in the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing exhibit that will be up until December. Typically visitors spend about 45 minutes here. There is public visitor parking lot about 200 yards to the southeast. Tons of handicap parking!

I seriously seriously love this place. It is completely free in a beautiful part of the city and all things considered, you should probably donate. The capitol building has been reconstructed, or restored rather, to its 1912 counterpart and youre given an interesting lesson on the history of the building and Tallahassee as a city. The lady that explained how to navigate everything in the front was spectacular and super friendly. There are tons of spots designed to take selfies, you can put on the judges attire and each room offers an interesting piece of history. There are also I-Spy minigames for the kids and they can go hunting for objects around the museum. All around great time and fantastic experience!

The museum is located in the original capitol building which was the centre of Florida’s government from 1845 when the Capitol building was constructed to the 1970s when the new state capitol building ( a high rise monstrosity immediately behind the old capitol building ) was opened. There were plans to demolish this wonderful building but luckily it was saved by public petition. The building has been wonderfully restored to how it was in 1902. At one end of the ground floor there is the governors office, cabinet office and secretarial support office whilst at the other end is the Florida Supreme Court both as they were in 1902. In between the other rooms have been converted into exhibits detailing the history of Florida from the Spanish through the Seminole & Civil War, segregation, political life to the present day . On the top floor the original glass in the dome has been brought back to life and is stunning. Again at one end of the building is where the House sat whilst at the other end is the Senate. Everything has been superbly restored and there are more exhibits in the offices relating to the Senate and House Chambers. A wonderful museum, well worth spending a couple of hours exploring and it is free.

Rude gift store staff and even ruder security guard. Please educate your staff about members of the public with medical issues that make them look so different that you have to stare or use aggressive posturing. A recovering stroke patient with a droopy half face and uneven gait is not a threat or a freak to be stared at. This Floridian expects better treatment, especially in a museum in the state capitol.

The best Florida State old Capitol museum anywhere on the planet. Really theyve done a great job both preserving and showcasing the history of the building, the Capitol, and the state. Might be a little slow for younger visitors as many of the displays involve reading the history rather than dinosaurs. Take a tour if you can. The Florida Historic Capital Museum presents interesting exhibits on Florida history while also being a piece of history in and of itself! The former Florida capital is a gorgeous example of the Classical Revival architectural style and, although smaller, definitely overshadows the modern capital building behind it in its appearance. The changing exhibits inside document both the preservation of the historic capital and the history of Floridas government, especially its involvement of notable events like the Civil Rights Movement and the anti-war movement in the 1960s. The Florida Historic Capital Museum is not to be passed up if you are ever in Tallahassee.
