I love museums, and have traveled to many states and Europe to visit them. Overall, I would compare the Florida museum as their equal, and its free. The quality of the dioramas was exceptional, with vivid colors, extremely life-like figures, and inventive staging. The range of artifacts throughout the building was astoundingThe pre-history and history of Florida is fascinating, and it was well represented here. A bonus was an exhibition of Florida landscapes with a good selection of works by the Florida Highwaymen.

We didnt research this visit much but saw it was recommended. Both our boys (10 and 12) enjoyed the museum with different parts being hits. Even grandmas attic was a hit with some fun moments. Way more to see than my photos, a ton of history from the early native America days, through Spanish occupation, statehood and World War II. The surf display was a nice bonus. You can easily use up 2+ hours here so Im guessing it would range from 1-3 hours depending on your speed. Definitely worth a visit. The parking is $5, but free if you get a token from the front desk. Total cost, $0!

Perhaps one of the best state museums I have ever been to and it is FREE! The displays and dioramas were first rate. A child interested in history will really enjoy the many buttons to push and hear recorded historical info (instead of having to read everything!). The temporary display was a variety of Florida landscape paintings and that was outstanding!

What a great day. The museum is downtown right by the state capital. It covers history of the state from the early Spanish influence to past WW2. Also covers ALL aspects of the state. We spent over 3 hours here just enjoying the full info of the state. 2 city blocks away from the state capital so park and walk.FREE admission and parking.

This museum was a lot of fun! They had lots to do here for both kids and adults. We learned a lot about the history of Florida. It’s a good stop off when you need to stretch your legs during a long road trip. The admission is free and they ask that you make a small donation. They had many different rooms and areas spanning over centuries.

Can’t beat it with a stick! This place is amazing...and it’s my understanding that it is supported by tax dollars. Admission was free for the whole family. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and could have stayed until Monday! The exhibits are interactive and several of them rotate. The kids were entertained the whole time! My wife and I loved it as well! The gift shop at the entrance is quite unique with many educational gifts (as you can expect from a museum). Go go go!!

The museum was very informative and hits the major details of Floridas history up to World War II. As a former tour guide and history buff, I found the most enjoyable part chatting with their docent there, Paul, who was well versed in the history of Florida and very friendly. I came on a slow day so was able to hog a lions share of Pauls time, but by far his expertise and excitement about history was what made this trip so enjoyable.

One of the best museums I have been to! It is clean and the exhibits are well taken care of. There is a great mix of interactive exhibits and a small play room called Grandmas Attic. The information provided is broken down into chunks so its easy to absorb the history if you have only a little bit of time.

Totally exceeded my expectations today. Excellent museum with lots of detailed exhibits. Very creative, attractive, and informative. I learned a lot and saw things here on Florida history that Id not seen explored in such detail in other Florida museums, such as their exhibit on Florida steamboat history. I also think they have done a great job with the life like mannequins representing early Florida persons. I was here on a slow Saturday and when alone in the room and observing them up close, I felt like they were going to come to life.

A great museum in the heart of Tallahassee telling the story of Florida! The Museum of Florida History provides a permanent physical recreation and exhibition of the history of the state of Florida and its inhabitants, starting from its pre-historic beginnings. A surprisingly large exhibition space winds you through the timeline of history and offers well crafted exhibits, in which you can get lost for hours. In addition, there is large hall which houses the changing exhibition space, most recently on quilting and movies filmed in Florida. Overall, its a great addition to a tour of Tallahassees museums, with a short walk to either the Challenger Center or the Florida Historic Capital Museum.

Really well organized museum, you can walk the whole thing in about 1.5-2hrs. It has some interactive exhibits, which makes it interesting for kids, and the staff are more than happy to guide you around. It runs on donations, so please consider donating when you visit - how many museums are absolutely free *and* provide parking validation? At least a couple bucks per person.

(Full disclosure alert: I absolutely love living in Tallahassee. No, I wasnt born here. In fact, I havent yet lived a third of my years here - but Im here for the duration)Ok - that said, the museum is truly a gift to our community and its visitors. Offering a rich collection of artifacts, information, art, and cool stuff in general, museum visitors can expect unrivaled depth and breadth of historical Florida coverage. The rotating gallery exhibition is a treat - just like the more permanent displays. We come (easily) six times a year.Oh - and its free. That doesnt mean the contribution box should go unnoticed.

Florida history in 4 hours give or take. This is a very comprehensive exhibit of the states early to current history. This museum will take some time if you do it thoroughly.
