Beautiful park! There are lots of trails to walk or ride, and they cross each other in quite a few places, making the distance of each hike completely customizable (2 mile hike fitting for young kids energy level, day hike with a picnic lunch, or even just open green space to play or fly a kite in). There are multiple trail heads. Some trails are wide for horses, some have banked curves and are designed for mountain bikes, and others best suited to walking with narrow bridges over low spots. Each trailhead Ive visited has had printed maps available at the trailhead sign and map. Trails are of varying levels of difficulty and incline, and the maps give information about each loop of the trail in regards to accessibility. Some trailheads have restrooms or Porta potties. This particular trailhead didnt have either. The City of Tallahassee and Leon County maintain some excellent trails! Info and maps (for trails that have maps) can be found online on the citys website.

This is a great place to be outdoors year round. Hiking, running, biking, birdwatching, photography and horse riding are some of the things you can do here. There are a lot of single track and multi use paths going all over the place. This is near Warner Soccer Complex, Forest Meadows, Maclay trails and the Meridian Park baseball fields.

Red Hills Horse Trials is simply the best equestrian event for horse lovers to watch or to participate in as a volunteer. The community comes together to put on a fluid, well run event that is world class. Look for it every March. Hats off to the Phipps family for the foresight of donating the land for this wonderful park and especially for this event. Thank you.

I had a great time on the mountain biking trails. They were not extremely difficult but they definitely werent easy. There were many ponds and streams and one of the ponds had turtles in it. Overall great scenery and would recommend you go on a cool and cloudy day be cause your going to sweat. A lot.

Very nice park when the mosquitoes are dead in the winter. Bring bug spray if you go any other time. The recreation fields always seem well maintained, but I usually go on the trails. There are quite a few downed trees from the past years hurricanes, but you can walk under or around them. The trail itself is very pretty, with a lot of streams and one very neat waterfall. Not very populated, but the bike trail has people riding usually. There are often people walking dogs without leashes here. Please leash your dogs, you cant control them when they are allowed to roam free, and its dangerous for everyone. City leash laws apply here.

Municipal soccer complex with many fields and not enough parking or family seating. Some fields have bleachers but most do not. The grass is in good shape and there are a couple of AstroTurf fields as well. There is a concession stand which has a good variety of food for cheap (breakfast, lunch, and snacks), but often long lines and questionable hygiene. The bathrooms are plentiful and clean and located in the center of the very large complex.Bring a chair or a picnic blanket to sit on (and maybe a picnic) and prepare to cheer your kids team on to victory!Theres no real shade, so in the summer consider a tailgate tent.Note: arrive early for best parking, prepare to wait in traffic to leave the complex, and this location is not handicapped accessible.

The trails are well maintained and lead to many different ecosystems including: butting up to Lake Jackson, pine forests, wetlands, and the typical Florida forests with underbrush and a variety of trees. When I come here I typically spend around 3 hours wandering along miles of different trails; each time I like to take different routes because there are so many options to choose from. The trails are well marked, however, the maps provided are difficult to read and do not go into as much detail as the trail markers do. I often end up improvising when trying to decipher where I am.The hikes are all mild with little terrain change aside from light inclines or declines. There are no amenities along the trails aside from at some of the trail heads, so make sure to bring plenty of water!

A jewel of our area if you enjoy wide open spaces in nature. Multi-use trails for walking/running/bicycles/equestrians. The site of the annual Red Hills 3 day event, where many Olympic athletes compete. If you come upon horses on the trail, please follow proper trail etiquette, and that is, stop, pull to on side of the trail, and greet the rider. Bicyclists are to stop their bikes. If coming up from behind, loudly announce yourself and do not pass until the rider acknowledges you. Horses see you as predators, so talking tells them you are human. The rider will tell you if passing them is best on bike or off. Thanks!

The beauty of Tallahassee in the Spring is always overwhelming at the Red Hills Horse Trials, when we get to watch exciting cross country jumping, dressage, & stadium jumping of Olympic riders & many future Olympians. The excitement, the spanish moss swinging in the breeze from huge live oaks as horses jump amazing logs, etc at breakneck speed, all add up to a fantastic weekend. Ive gone for about 10 years now but skipped 2017 due to not liking the change of schedules for the CIC 3* horses, which no longer jump on Sundays, but double up on Saturdays, by doing stadium jumping AND Cross country on the same day.

Go to Gate B - the trails down this side of the park loop around - find the hidden tree (there are two) - one is a great place to read. There are wide open trials and lots of smaller trails that cross them (the smaller trails are less maintained). Close to the water is where you find butterflies, caterpillars, etc. The back pond has some beautiful live oaks on the way. This can be a 30 minute hike or a 4 hour hike - depends on you.

If you are not a serious Walker runner or biker, make sure you are with someone and go early, unless you are looking for some alone time to clear your head. One thing I really I dislike: is that the trail is 50 feet from the water, other than the three observation spots, I can hardly see the water...

The park is essentially a network of miles of trails (multi-use and single track) for hiking, jogging, biking, and horseback riding through various terrains. Some trails are designated for specific uses. The Redbug Mountain Bike Trail at the eastern edge of the park provides a 4+ mile loop of challenging, technical terrain. Other trails are limited to hiking. Maps are available online and are usually available at the trailheads - use them! New signage marks certain points on designated trail loops, but a map will help. Some lesser-used trails may get a bit overgrown at times with the heavy summer vegetation growth, but the main trails are generally well kept (some double as narrow roadways for the annual Red Hills Horse Trials, a world-class equestrian event held in March). You can pick up the Lake Overstreet trails just across Meridian Rd. for additional hiking, biking, and jogging trails. Its hard to get bored with the variety of trails between these two systems. Pets are allowed on the trails on leash. There are no facilities along the trails other than one portable toilet. However, the park encompasses three other facilities operated by the City of Tallahassee - the Meadows Soccer Complex, Forest meadows Athletic Center, and Meridian Park - each of which has restroom facilities and water fountains. Still, bring water if you plan to spend any extended time on the extensive trails to the west of these facilities.
