Only one of 3 theaters in western Washington showing the must see Indie film. Parking was free, lobby was comfortable and the staff, all volunteer, were so nice. Great non-profit space to support.

First time visitor and would give 4 rather than 5s because those who have wheelchair or walker are challenged to enter/exit an individual theater bay because there are steps at the entry although to enter the whole theater there is a ramp. However there maybe alternatives but I did not inquire. I was concerned for a woman who was struggling with her wheeled walker to exit the bay. Otherwise, this is a classic old-school theater with updated comfortable seats and cup holders. In the reception area lots of memorabilia and simple but nice selection of treats, wine, and locally sourced ice cream. Would come back not only for the cinematic niche & artistic movies shown here but also for the tasty popcorn. The servers treat the popcorn with care including the butter. Nice touch.

My husband and I became members of The Grand Cinema a few years’ ago & have never regretted it. The GC is an independent & very unique in design, old/historical movie theatre, which specializes in showing artistic & foreign & independent films vs run-of-the-mill Top Action movies like Marvel films or the Transformer series of action films. Their staff are mainly volunteers & it’s obvious they like being there - they are invariably helpful & polite. Their popcorn is some of the best popcorn I’ve ever tasted at any movie theatre, or anywhere else for that matter - it’s always fresh & hot & they use real butter, vs that disgusting artificial yellow ‘slime’ junk, you get at most commercial movie theatres. As members, we get a discount on all movies & popcorn, along with close-by parking, which is a nice trade-off for the annual membership fees. The GC is in downtown Tacoma, is easy to find & reminds me of an old, treasured relic from the past.

The main local independent film Theater of Tacoma. Prices are good. they chose great independent movies of all genres. they show different movies on top of the regular movies they show. For example they have weird elephant on Saturdays which shows cult movies . They also have a Tuesday film series and a family film series. They are pretty cool there if you a request a upcoming movie to show they will see if they can show it. you can also apply to volunteer here which is cool as well.

Place feels claustrophobic, theater screen was pretty small, we were waiting for a weirdly long amount of time (15+ minutes?) to enter the theater as the ticket checker was cleaning... Seats were decent and movie experience wasnt horrible overall, but probably going to avoid this place in the future.

We had a good experience at this theater. The selection of refreshments was nice, the ticket buying process was good, the seats were comfortable, and the screen was high quality. Not much else that you can ask for. However, minus one star for the climate control. The A/C was on and blowing constantly for the entirety of our film. We were freezing, and we were dressed for the 40 degree drizzly Tacoma day. Hopefully this was a one-off mistake because I am otherwise excited to see another film here.

The cinema itself was very nice. The volunteers were friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic about movies. There is not much parking available, so allow enough time to find a space. I took the last available space in the Diamond parking lot next to the cinema. I came to see The Dead Dont Die. which is a campy zombie movie.

There is no more satisfaction than supporting a local theater. Dont get me wrong, I do love going to Regal and watching my favorite movie on the biggest screen but I like the part I play in my participation in something local. All the volunteers who work at The Grand are most cheerful and friendly. Get a family membership and you can watch a movie for 8 dollars. I have not yet had a chance to see Monday movie for members at 5 dollars but I soon will. I love watching some of the movies that will only show at the Grand.And.....dont forget to pick up your free popcorn for members. Add the butter for happiness:) By no means is it tasty or healthy but my husband and I enjoy the tradition. The quality of the picture is not something I will write home about but again the satisfaction of watching something in a local theater makes it okay.Thank you for all that you do to keep your doors open Grand Cinema!

I love The Grand so much. Best place in Tacoma to catch a movie, plus you can bring your Corina Bakery treats into the theater and I can’t imagine a better setup than that. There’s so much good to say about The Grand, so I’ll just leave it at: documentaries. Amazing documentaries show at The Grand; I’ve seen several at this cinema I might not have even heard of otherwise. Oh, and rent The Grand for your birthday party. A+

An amazing non-profit independent theater in Tacoma. The Grand regularly plays independent and foreign films for diverse audiences. Last night I saw an animated film about Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, followed by a panel discussion with survivors of the genocide. It was a meaningful event to the Cambodian community of Tacoma, and educational for guests of all backgrounds. Thank you for hosting this film and discussion.

The Grand Cinema on 606 Faucett Ave. has been a great venue and headquarters for the Tacoma Film Fest 2019. It has several screens though the TFF used only 1 and 2 most of the time and the VIP lounge downstairs. Each had an intimate, old-time feel but with comfort and cleanliness. The concession stand offered the usual along with a beer and wine selection and some local favorites from Ice Cream Social and the bakery next door. Now that the festival has brought me here, I will surely become a regular or a member with some perks!** Please LIKE my review, if it helps you!

Charming old-timey atmosphere in a beautiful historic location. They show lots of interesting movies, not simply the most artsy they can possibly find, but do emphasize the independant and off-beat options. You can see movies here you wont find anywhere else locally. Pay parking next door, but you can get a voucher inside if you are seeing a movie.

Alright theatre the staff constantly makes fun of the guests I myself have being called a freak while going there and have had to put up with this strange behavior from the various staff members one is a really weird looking old man. Theyve called me a freak outside of the establishment as well calling me a freak if they ever passed me in public. This has been going on for something like 12 years now if you can put up with being called names on a constant basis by staff of an independent theatre then its a great place.
