Very different experience than I expected. The park itself isnt that great. The picnic areas are all out in the open in the sun and the area surrounding is super ugly with not much of a view, which kind of surprised me. The museum is sort of interesting, but its small and takes about 10 minutes to get through. The Salt lake is DISGUSTING. Although there were locals out playing in this stagnant, very pungent, fly infested water and beach, I wouldnt advise getting in.So now youre probably wondering why I gave this such a good rating. That is because nature is amazing. The sunset there on the beach of the Salt Lake was amazing. The seemingly mile long hike to the waters edge was interesting too since its all hardened (what we supposed was salt) deposits that were fun to explore (make sure you keep your shoes on for this! Very hard on the feet). The wildlife you see on this island is super cool too. There are weird little antelope living here (hence the name) that apparently are native to this place and of course huge herds of bison that will literally cross the road right in front of you, make up for all the rest. Apparently there are hikes to do around the island too, but since it was so hot and there isnt any trees to speak of as well as the fact that we had kids with us, we decided against trying those out. Theres nothing that separates you from the wild life so these hikes are for the adventurous! (Photos are from the beach we went to-Im not sure where my photos of the bison went, but they were right next to our car at one point which was both amazing and terrifying at the same time)

Antelope Island was a very cool state park with lots of history and beauty. The first two pictures below are of Ladyfinger Point on the northern tip of the island, it looks very beautiful when its clear out but also looks beautiful when its cloudy out.The third picture below is of the Antelope Island Visitor Center where it has a movie, exhibits about the islands past and information about the park. The visitor center looks very modern and sleek and has good bathrooms. The fourth picture below is of a lone bison that we saw right outside the visitor center, the island is home to bison, pronghorn antelope, and mule deer. The fifth through seventh pictures are of the Fielding Garr Ranch, a historic ranch on the lower east side of the island with a giant bison herd just by the far fence in the seventh picture. In all our visit to Antelope Island was very good and the eighth picture below is of the sign when you first enter the park. I rate this state park a 5 out of 5 stars

Awesome park. The kids have tons of fun identifying animals and climbing the rocks found around the park mainly near the visitor center. The beaches are excellent for photographs but be aware of the biting gnats in late spring through summer. The bike/hiking trails are good with awesome views. Be careful with the Bison. The ranch is also cool to see. Overall....a little gem next to civilization.

We were staying in Salt lake City for a couple of days and wanted to see the Great Salt Lake. Googling showed to go to Antelope Island and really enjoyed it. Great views of the Salt Lake as well as lots of information on the lake. You drive over a causeway to get there which gives you great views. There are a lot of places to view and they have lots of hiking trails. The visitor center is nice and gives you a good bit of info on the place. There is a campground on the island and a old ranch you can visit. If you are lucky you can see the Bison they have on the island.Admission is $15 but for seniors only $10 and I think worth it.

This place was awesome. See the Bison and Antelope roam so closely was a nice surprise. In addition to the views.....I mean definitely a must visit. Even the drive to the island is scenic. We happened to see a Coyote crossing at a shallow point on the lake from the roadway to the island. The driving trails are well maintained. We didnt have time to hike, but plan on returning to hike in the future!

We had a full day in salt lake and wanted to check out the lake. We googled Antelope Island, and decided to check it out. It costs $15 a vehicle. We drove to lady finger point trail and the beach. Definitely not a beach you’d want to spend the day at. The sand is rough, water isn’t ideal for swimming, and there are swarms of flies. There are a few places to hike, and you get to see the bison. Interesting spot to check out, but not really worth more than an hour or two.

It was the perfect day to visit the island. Such an easy and short drive from salt lake. Only $15 to get in at the toll booth. The lake was beautiful under a brisk June sky with some puffy clouds along for the ride. The sand was soft as a blanket as we ran towards the lake. We saw a lizard skattle by us and got to see 4 buffalo cross the road in front of us. Really nice way to spend the afternoon.

It was nice to revisit this place, but it has definitely declined since I went there in elementary school. Back then the wildlife was all over the place. You could see antelope and buffalo just about everywhere you looked. The island was so lush and green back then as well. This time around we saw a few buffalo from pretty far away, and there was no green foliage at all. We bought a few items from the gift shop, including two pairs of binoculars. My brother in laws pair worked great, but mine were blurry on one side for some reason. It was slightly fun, but also a little disappointing. The views are still gorgeous, even if a little barren.

This place was awesome. The entrance fee is $15 per vehicle (up ro 8 people), the drive was beautiful, you could see water and birds. There ade different points that you can drive to, easy drive, Buffalo point was one of my favorites. First time here and we were able to see Bisons, the one in the picture was so close to us, near one of the camping tables, it was awesome. Restrooms bu the visitor area are the best ones you can go, the rest are kind of smelly. In the Visitor center, there is a little exposition, were they tell you about the wildlife and bugs and birds, even the rocks, it was very informative.

I absolutely loved it here! I read so much online about the smell and brine flies, and the walk on the beach to the water, but it wasn’t so bad! I hardly noticed a smell (maybe time of year?). The hot sunny walk on “beach” was doable — and I’m partially disabled — because the beach is a lot more solid than it appears. The brine flies covered our bags right by the water but easily move away. More fascinating to look at than bothersome. Once we waded far enough, we could float in the great salt lake! Water is a pleasant temp under the 100 degree Utah sun. Loved every minute. I would return with a float during a cooler time of year and stay all day.Bring quarters to shower!Bison everywhere in the park, too! Delightful experience all around.

I have been coming here for years. I have done solo hikes and group hikes. I’ve used a photo taken on Frary peak trail for my graduation picture. Buffalo point hike was the best to take maternity photos and to take my son after. I have taken kids that I’ve worked with and I’ve taken family who have visited from out of state. This place never disappoints. The views are amazing. The wildlife is impressive. If you haven’t seen a buffalo up-close you need to. They are massive and nothing like anything I’ve ever seen. I will always come back. Regardless of the brine flies that gather in droves on the shores and regardless of the biting gnats also known as noseeums, wow those are annoying. Regardless I will be back and as my son gets older we will explore every aspect of that amazing state park.

The bathrooms near the beach were honestly the best public park bathrooms Ive been in. My only negative is the vast amount of brine flies... but its really to be expected on that type of lake. shade is in short supply so if you go during July or August you may want to bring some shade with you. There is also a few restaurants on the island but we didnt end up going to one. Also, BUFFALO!

Antelope island is a fun experience if you make sure you hit all the right stuff. First, get yourself over to the visitors center and learn about this awesome little island. Next make sure you get a bison burger because its just part of the experience. I participated in the races here, so a little different than spending the day here, but it was still incredibly fun! I saw so much wildlife. Buffalo were seemingly playing in the fields and where else do you see that?! So neat!!! I have only been here in the fall season so Ive only seen what it looks like all sage brush like, so from my pictures you can tell its not very colorful or beautiful haha. Make sure you bring bug spray. There are SO MANY mosquitoes. I got bit a ton and regret not taking bug spray. I thought since it was a morning race and I would be here till around 1030am I wouldnt need any and there wouldnt be bug (since mosquitoes come out at night) but I was very wrong. Doesnt matter the time of day. Bring bug spray or youll be itching! Also it kinda smells when you get closer to the water. And by kinda I mean a lot haha. But those are my only two complaints. You feel like youre out in the middle of nowhere and its quiet and peaceful and you get to see wildlife thats incredible! Recommend this place to all!

You only really smell it along the shoreline while driving the causeway. Once on the island, you don’t have nearly as much of the odor.Everyone should make it a point to visit. So much of Utah’s history is based around the lake. The island shows geological history as well as our pioneer history. It tells of birds, animals and ecology.Take a drive out to the island to see Antelope, Bison, and a variety of waterfowl. My most recent visit took about 1.5 hours of the afternoon and included a walk in he salt water and a drive to an overlook. Plan on taking the better part of a day to visit the Fielding Garr Ranch, visitors center and grab a bite to eat at the Bison Grill. Its a well-maintained park. The views are gorgeous. Weve been here twice and havent seen an abundance of wildlife, but that could be a seasonal issue. I think its worth the $10 entry fee.

I am only reviewing the “beach access” as we were only there for a short time. My kids really enjoyed taking a nice dip in the water and skipping rocks. It is a long walk from the parking area. If you have small children be sure they wear comfortable shoes with socks. Be prepared. The sand is HOT and littered with what can only be described as “drive-way” rocks. The rocks can be very sharp. Step where others have stepped to avoid sinking and walk where sand looks crusty because it will be hard and you won’t sink as badly. The “beach” is the simplest form of a beach because it is where sand meets water. There are a lot of flies. Anything that doesn’t move will be covered in a matter of seconds. Do not plan on a picnic. Take drinking water, of course. The flies continuously swarm at the edge of the water and will move out of your way. The water does smell bad but that smell goes away shortly as you get used to it. Some of the flies do bite. Just keep moving around. Remember anything that stops moving becomes a landing ground for a swarm of flies.

Beautiful and very unique. Definitely worth saving for a sunny day - the expensive views are a big highlight.Great place for birding - bring your binoculars!! And other wildlife too, bison, deer, pronghorn....You can swim in the lake if the weather is nice. There are showers and bathrooms and a beach.Visitor center is worth checking out, they have some great info.
