The park is pretty. Theres a few different campgrounds within the park I stayed at Chimney View. I stayed on site 59 which was near the vault toilets and had a great distant view of the reservoir. The sites are very clean and well maintained as well as the facilities. There are pay showers, 3 quarters gets you 3 minutes and the water temperatures options are freezing or cold. It was 88 degrees by 9 am so that was great for me but be warned. There is a change machine in the bathroom if you dont have coins. I had the whole campground to myself. There was one other couple that was there for a little while but the wind was relentless the day I was there and then there was a storm that came through in the middle of the night so I think they bailed. There is zero natural cover. Like, not a single tree. The little wind, sun shades permanent fixtures are somewhat helpful but the day I was there the wind was blowing straight out of the East into the East facing cover... I would stay again when passing through. The sunset was epic.

Very nice state park. Camp sites are nicely spaced out but there are no trees so little privacy. Very clean restrooms with showers. There is a well stocked convince store nearby at the marina. Swim beach is clean with plenty of room in the sand.

I liked the park. Evenings were fantastic with a slight breeze accompanied by crickets and other assorted animals serenading you to sleep. Dayime was hot and buggy otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. I tried taking a duckie out by the Inlet campground and biting flies drove me back on shore. I will come back again.

No trees, tents have to be set up on gravel, 28$ a night, to sit in the sun all day. If I wanted to camp in the desert, I would have went to death valley. Its probably prettier.

Chimney View campground has a bathroom with a broken lock. but the individual camping spots are nice. big picnic table with a covering and a good firepit. no electricity, but we had our generator. very relaxing weekend. well be back!

We spent all day at this lake boating and fishing. It is beautiful with Lots of wildlife as well as an incredible amount of space to explore. The fact that it isnt a no-wake lake doesnt seem to bother the fishing much as most of the boaters see your pole in the water, and stay a respectable distance away. Unfortunately, however, we didnt catch many fish- that is the only reason why I am not giving it five stars.

The grounds crew always do a really good job of keeping the park clean. Camp hosts are friendly, too. We’ve been coming here for years and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to camp or go boating. Dump stations and 30-50 amp hookups available on most sites.

The reservoir it self is very nice , however it’s crazy to me that in addition to $36 per night camp fee they also charge $9 per day for your car and $3 for cold showers . It’s very hard to find your way around to the swimming area and walking trails there are no signs or maps of the area .

Good not great. Swim beach is very low, like is the norm lately. Even 6 years ago there was water to the playground. Ive heard that the farmers might be taking a bit extra out for their crops to increase yields. At least there wasnt a giant algae plume this year!

I havent been to the park in years and was incredibly disappointed with an experience today. While walking the dog, I let him off leash as there were no other people, dogs, or cars in sight. When I saw the Park Ranger truck approaching, I put the dog on the leash because I always leash him when cars or people are approaching. Officer Mills pulled up and without any introduction or greeting, rudely told me the dog had to be on a leash and stated, And because you put him on the leash, I assume you already knew that. I will write you a ticket if I see you again. I have no problem being asked to have the dog on the leash as this is the rule. However, I do expect Park Rangers to be appropriate and professional when approaching paying guests and not rude and unfriendly. Officer Mills was not wearing a mask, as all essential workers are required to do during this pandemic when dealing with the public, and did not maintain 6 feet of distance. When we called the office after leaving the park, Officer Mills refused to provide her full name and stated, Im Officer Mills to you. The park and trails were well maintained so its unfortunate that an otherwise great day was interrupted by a rude and unprofessional Park Ranger.

Its a beautiful location with very warm water. We really enjoyed camping here and everyone we meet was extremely kind. The signage is certainly lacking, so prepare to be without service and black of signs. The facilities, even for a park, leave a lot to be desired. We went in right after they were cleaned and it still had a large mess on the ground. Not as bad as it was before, but by no means cleaned up.

The park was clean and well taken care of. The camping areas were mowed around and not overgrown. The hiking trails were in great shape. The best thing was the number of bathrooms. Theyre basic, but there were plenty of them. The scenery and wildlife were beautiful and the park was quiet and not too crowded (end of March).

Jo
Review №49

Nice place for a spring camping trip (when we were there), but could be hot in summer. If youre here for the boating that wouldnt be as much of an issue. We were here in April, so the park was only about half-opened (e.g., the marina was closed). The campsites are nicely separated so you dont feel like youre right on top of your neighbors. The shaded picnic tables at each site would be nice to get out of the sun in summer. Two of the three campgrounds have 30A electrical hookups. The restrooms are good; clean and well maintained, but there are relatively few of them and so its a bit of a walk from some campsites and they might get crowded when the campground is full. The dump station is good, with two drains and water for flushing out your see hose. Theres also potable water there and in the campgrounds, but the water tastes TERRIBLE.There are a couple of short hiking trails that are good for getting out and stretching you legs. There were lots of birds in April, so this would be a good place for birders. So, this is a good park for boaters and fishermen, as well as birders an other wildlife watchers. Its also a nice place to go to just get away for civilization for a while.

If i could put no stars i wouldAt 1pm My kids were playing with water guns simply being kids and the park rangers approached us about them being too loud. Also one of my vehicles had the left tire on the edge of the grass and they told us to move it and park it in a specific place so we did well... they came back and said to move it again.i took my loss on this place because i paid for two nights but i will never go back if you plan on staying here take a book and make sure to not step out of your vehicle because that’s literally all you’re allowed to do! We left to Nebraska lake and we had a great time.

The women’s bathroom was dirty, and the garbage had not been taken out for a while. The men’s bathroom shower would only except 3 quarters and was barely a trickle. The park rangers drove around a lot and the woman who mows the lawn mowed it even though the lawn was pretty short already. I would not waste my time here. The only redeeming value was there was hardly anyone camping, maybe 10 rigs.

Park rangers constantly nitpicked us. I was immediately asked to move my car because two tires were on the grass... Which I was fine with because the ranger was nice. Then we had two rangers rudely approach us with flashlights in our face over being too loud. Then we were told that we couldnt have 3 tents in one camp space, mind you we paid for 4 camping spaces, just had some tents close together in one of them because all of our kids of different age groups wanted to be near eachother (No tent limit was exceeded based on the space we PAID for.) Just felt scolded for every little thing. Rangers are clearly overstaffed around there. Wont ever go back.To not be a total negative Nancy:There was one other nice ranger who brought around popsicles & the camping lots are spacious.

Its no Lake of the Ozarks but its one heck of a good time and a lake we have and will continue to visit every year as long as it stays as fun as it is now! Its definitely a fishy lake - they are constantly jumping all around you and it you have to avoid certain areas of the lake that the cows go in, but if you know those things, you can have a blast. Weve only had a few run-ins with the rangers (even on busy holidays) but theyve always been polite. We go there every year for the July 4th holiday because they do an amazing fireworks show over the boat dock and theres nothing better than watching it all from a boat!
