This is such a fantastic resource. I have yet to be disappointed in any wildlife refuge that I have visited and Bombay Hook is no exception. Kept as natural as possible, the area provides habitat for an abundance of wildlife. The wildlife drive offers a way to see these magnificent animals in their true habitat. Also, there are three observation towers that present a unique way to see and photograph the wildlife. A word of advice: you will need strong binoculars, a spotting scope or an extreme zoom on your camera to make the most of this. Bring snacks and beverages because you are going to want to spend all day here. Arrive by sunrise and stay until sunset and you will have almost limitless opportunities to photograph animals. In addition to the birds, I was lucky enough to see a red fox, whitetail deer, fiddler crabs, turtles and rabbit.

This place is wonderful! If youve been to EB Forsythe Preserve in NJ, this is very similar with different birds. Saw eagles, geese, crested kingfisher and much more

It is a nice park. There is no much walking or hiking. For the most part you drive in a car and watch the birds with binoculars. There are couple of towers that give you a good view overseeing the marshes. Depending on a season you may see many or few birds. And, also seasonally, you may expect many ticks and angry biting flies.

Such a beautiful refuge to spend the day with your whole family! My husband and I have now taken our about to be three year old son there a couple of times now and he gets such a kick watching all of the wildlife. There are observation towers as well as hiking trails along the main auto route to explore and it is very easy to pull off to the side of the road to take pictures. I highly recommend visiting the website before you go as it is very imfomative and they even provide a breakdown as to the wildlife you can see every month of the year. Please NOTE that during the summer months it is EXTREMELY buggy so please plan accordingly! Hope this helps!

Absolutely beautiful national Park and part of the east coast migratory bird highway. You can see tens of thousands of bird fly through here if you are lucky. Really brings you back to nature. Lots of different paths to drive along and some people here taking photos are definitely professionals. Just dont block the roads, and dont make any noise. Absolutely do not honk your horn, youll bother the birds.

This place was neat and I got to see some birds Ive never seen. I would love the opportunity to go back when there arent crazy flies who attack you as soon as you get out of the car. Update: went back now in the fall and its amazing. Added new photos. Best time to visit so get out and enjoy the weather.

OK, I came for the 12 miles of gravel road experience on my motorcycle, but the wildlife was spectacular. Bird watchers were happy to explain what they spotted, and share their telescopes. I watched bald eagles pluck fishes from a lagoon, and saw the close-up replay on a photographers screen. In the attached shot, 5 eagles are fighting over a fish on a little island. Best $4 spent lately.

Get back to nature that is closer to home for millions in the mid atlantic area. This gem is great for watching wildlife, birding, hunting (by permit only) , fishing and just getting away from all the B.S., but, if you still need so.e B.S. , in your life just get involved in birding and you will come across a few people from time to time that think they are a God. Just brush that off and get out and enjoy one of Delawares best kept secrets.

This place is absolutely gorgeous and so easy to get to. I just recently discovered it after searching for other natural areas to explore in Delaware and Im going back as soon as I possibly can. What the park maps and sites dont tell you is there are tons of smaller towers all throughout the refuge, Im assuming for bird watching, that offer off-the-beaten-path breathtaking views of their own, but the main towers are truly second to none. I spent about 4 hours at the park and thats a long time to spend on a several mile drive track with few and very short trails. Its a lot to take in and youll be spending your time looking at the same sights and pieces of nature tens of minutes at a time. Its a beautiful place! Check it out if you ever have the time!

A great place to see native and migratory bird species. Herons, egrets, goldfinch, indigo bunting, geese, terns, and even a red fox makes the rounds and poses for pics. Yes, during summer there are lots of biting flies but around August they start to die down. We wear long sleeves and a hat to step out of the car and snap photos. Very friendly people here that are usually happy to discuss birding and sharing photos.

We stopped here the end of July after a rainy period and found the roads to be in excellent condition. There are many different habitats within the refuge providing a great opportunity to see birds of different types. I found it particularly interesting that there was a childrens learning area at the visitor center that I have not seen else where.

Very nice place to drive around and see the wildlife and scenery. One of the best birding areas to go, we always see something amazing, unusual or rare. The visitor center is nice inside. I was looking for an outdoor adventure along the coast of Delaware and decided upon this National Wildlife Refuge. Inexpensive at $4, $2 for bicyclists. Immediately as I drove in after the visitor center, my open windows were bombarded with swarms of bugs. I closed the windows to drive through the site and hoped it would clear up along my way to try hiking the very short distance trails. I attempted Parsons Point Trail after dousing myself in bug spray and I was still being swarmed and bitten. I decided to enjoy the views from my car and I am grateful to have seen Egrets, Grey Herons, Terns, Red Winged Black Birds and a couple other birds I am unfamiliar with. The pools are beautiful, and the signs along the road are informative. An inexpensive experience worth giving a shot — likely much friendlier to outdoor enthusiasts looking to walk or cycle.

Specially good for wildlife photographers who would want to catch glimpse of several birds having habitat here. For others who are just curious to see a bit of wildlife and trails, it may be a damper. There are a few trails which appear beautiful even in this pre-spring phase, I guess it would become even better in Spring and Summer. Ok for children. It has gravel roads and a lot of dust - anybody having dust allergy should be very careful while visiting here. There is a $4 fee per vehicle entering in the park area, that is deposited in an envelop at the entrance - keep cash for the fees.

Some times of the year Bombay Hook is plagued by biting flies. Try calling 1st or going in the fall and winter. For some reason, the flies can be very bad at BH and no where to be found just up the road at Woodland Beach which is very natural and unspoiled. Without the flies BH is a treasure.

There is a fairly long driving trails that go around marshy areas. There we found many aquatic bird species. You could stop at anytime and observe and take pictures. Absolutely perfect for birding. From raptors to herons/egrets to small insectivores, this place is fantastic. The birds are also pretty comfortable being observed and having cars go by, so no need to use camo or a blind. That said, the horseflies and deerflies are vicious, especially by the boardwalk trail - they dont even care about spray! Wear long pants and a field shirt if you want to avoid being eaten alive, plus a headnet and gloves if you need to be able to stay still. Also, high numbers of ticks here even in the grass along the roadside. Tuck your pants into your socks and your shirt into your pants, try to stay out of brush especially in/near the forest, and check yourself/eachother before you get back in the car.
