Signed up for a two hour private lesson and got to make basic beginner pieces. Wed never done glassblowing before but made a vase, bowl, mug, and decorative pumpkin. It takes three days for items to cool down so if youre not able to come back theyll ship your things to you. We had a great time, would recommend it as a great activity. Very hot in the studio, bring water.

Great experience - would definitely do it again as glass blowing is incredibly difficult. Id recommend asking which pieces are the most fun and complex to make, as I left wanting more!Tip for the teacher - let your students do more, and give them the chance to mess up. Sometimes felt like I wasnt doing anything, which was a bit underwhelming.

We held our team holiday party here and it was such a hit! We have a team of 17 and each of us had the opportunity to blow our own piece and were then able to create a team piece at the end. We had food catered and drinks delivered. I worked with Terri and she was an absolute pleasure! 5 star service all the way around from the initial inquiry to shipping the pieces. Not to mention the instructors are so talented as well. We gave very minimal description of what we had in mind for our team piece and they were able to create a beautiful glass bowl that matches our company colors perfectly! We have it placed in our lobby & filled it with candy. Thank you, again!

Two of us had a 3 hour private class. I always have been fascinated by glass blowing and this class did not disappoint. We had a hands-on experience mixing color in, heating, shaping, turning and blowing. We each had a choice of three pieces we wanted to make. Now we have an even bigger appreciation of glass art, a better understanding of how much hard work and skill it requires.

I recommend taking the 6 week class after one of the one time classes you have an idea of what it entails.

The tour is not worth it, as you are allowed to watch them blow glass for free from the cafe or from the gallery area. We were expecting the artists to be blowing glass but instead they were producing paper weights for an order. I feel as though a glass blowing studio tour should include glass blowing... There are other classes that are quite hands on and likely provide a better experience.

My SO booked a 3 hr private lesson here for our anniversary. Our instructor was Doug, and he was awesome. We had never had any exposure to glassworks beyond watching a Netflix show, but he didnt seem to mind. He did a great job at making sure we knew how to safely work in the hot shop, answered any questions we had with very knowledgeable, yet easy to understand, answers, and guided us to pieces that beginners usually start out on.Over the course of the 3 hrs we were never bored, and with each piece we made Doug gave us a little more independence. He did a great job at telling when to step in with guidance vs when we were able to complete the task at hand independently.5/5 would consider taking a full multi-level course here.

Ive been wanting to try glass blowing for years and finally decided to give it a try. It was super easy to make a reservation and I took my cousin, who is visiting me for the week. We had an amazing time. Theres a beautiful shop, with pieces for sale, adjacent to the studio itself. Theyre extremely well organized and set up for the observation and one on one activities. Our instructor was Joe and he was great. It was so interesting and he did a great job explaining each step and why we were doing what we did, to understand the process and the tools. We cant wait to pick up our finished pieces (they can also make shipping arrangements if needed, as pieces need time to cool). Theyre also well set up for group sessions or company team building activities. Definitely worth the money and will definitely go again.

I was hesitant to visit Seattle Glassblowing because I never had an interest in glassblowing. My fiancé told me that I would have a great time. After creating a glass bowl, I cant wait to create another piece. This place is hot! Wear a long sleeve shirt, jeans, and closed toe shoes or boots. The clothes are to protect from the direct heat, not from the red-hot glass. Bring a bottle of water, thick gloves, and a camera. The direct heat will really make your hands hot, so wearing gloves is a really good idea.If you make a glass bowl you will blow air inside the glass and suck some of the air out at the end. My advice on the blowing and sucking, go slow or you may cause the glass to crack when water is applied.Dont forget to tip your glassblowing instructor when your class is done.

Friendly staff and patrons. A great place to watch and learn about the glass-blowing process as well as take private sessions, should you be so inclined. I happened to be walking by during one of their Thursday night exhibitions and was blown away (pun intended) by the pieces that we were able to watch come into existence in front of our eyes.I also watched a one-on-one session which was happening at the same time and the instructor was very thoughtful and helpful throughout the process with the student. So of you are looking at giving glass-blowing a shot, start here.

Great experience! If you’re looking for something unique, this is definitely it. Joe was the artist that worked with my daughter and I as we worked on the double-walled glass bowl. So knowledgeable and helpful and you actually make the glass art yourself (of course with the safety assistance of your artist). Priced well. The gallery is simply beautiful too with bright colored glass objects from straws to pumpkins. And they ship to wherever you need them to for a small flat fee. If I ever make it back to Seattle, this will be at the top of my list to do again. Thank you Joe for spending part of your morning with us.

My one star is because I received extremely rude and demeaning service when I called the studio and spoke with Melissa (I believe) on the phone. Her tone and disrespect was just very unprofessional and so off base. Everything she said and the way she said it implied I was inconveniencing her and an idiot for not looking at their website before calling. I simply called to ask if she could tell me a little bit about what the Groupon class for two would be like because I have never blown glass and was interested in the deal to try it out. I was polite to her the whole time so I do not understand why she was behaving that way. If they do not want people calling the studio to talk to people the old fashion way then they should not have a public phone number. I was really disappointed, especially after then looking at their website and seeing their first “core value” is “We are dedicated to providing a personalized and friendly atmosphere that is creative, safe, clean, and fun.” Based on my interaction with Melissa I wouldn’t go to this studio because I don’t believe I would be treated with respect and it’s already intimidating trying something new. I’m contrast before calling SGBS I had just gotten off the phone with Tacoma Glass Blowing Studio and the woman there who answered was super kind, cheerful and respectfully answered all questions (even though I am sure all the info was on their website as well). So if you’ve read this whole review, please check out TGBS instead of supporting the Seattle Glass Blowing Studio.

I hated my experience here. I was so excited to come here because when we came to Seattle in 2013 we saw this and didnt have enough time for our projects to cool so we had to skip it. I have been thinking about it ever since.Ive always LOVED to watch glass blowing and was so excited to get to try my hand at something I have watched so much. The guide: From the moment I walked in the guide was not welcoming, he was not mean but treated me like I was a bother. I tipped $10 at the end just because I felt I had to because of his tip jar strategically set to be right next to me the whole time. The activity: very disappointing you dont actually get to work on the project you just stand near them and they let you touch the stick while they do all the work. Then finally you get to spin, but thats it. After the spinning all you get to do it sit and blow until hes done shaping. Maybe the $350 3 hr class is better but when I talked to them on the phone they said this class would give me what i want; some hands on crafting. However I dont think he let go of the pole for more than 30secs. It was terrible and felt rushed. The product: ugly! I admit I know nothing about glass so I left it to my expert guide. I told him I wanted something bright with lots of colors specifically turquoise, yellow, orange maybe pink or purple if we can. I even pointed to examples. He showed me the mixes said the ones he picked would get me that result. He said the base would be a blue green with a little purple swirl and specks of yellow and orange. Well, the result is a disgusting dark and dreary bowl. Its almost black. Also, this bowl is about 2/3 or half the size of the one I was shown I would make.Im so upset that I was misled about the experience and the size and color of the $100 bowl. I literally hated this place and it puts a huge dark cloud on my Seattle experience. Im devastated because Ive been dreaming about doing this for years and in the end I over paid for a hideous bowl And a bad experience. The guy who handed me the bowl said it turned out great I was speechless I wanted to cry because the anticipation of getting a beautiful bowl was the only thing salvaging the disappointing activity.

My sister wanted to try glassblowing when she was visiting. This place had a Groupon for glassblowing experiences. I wouldnt really considering this a full class, since the glass artist did most of the work, but for someone hoping to get a hands on understanding of how glassblowing works, its a great experience and will hopefully spark more folks to want to pursue more glassblowing experience. And we got two beautiful glass bowls out of it! Its truly amazing how a hot ball of glass is transformed into someone so lovely.

Was walking through downtown and happened to stop in here with some friends. Pretty cool store. They had a lot of pieces on display that were for sale. Near the back of the shop it opens up into their work space. You can just walk back and take a look at how they make the items. One of the guys offered to show us a demonstration. It was super interesting talking to him afterwards. The people were super chill and just fun to talk to about the awesome stuff they make. Definitely recommend stopping in if youre walking by.

Review №71

The experience I had with my particular instructor is the reason for this awful review. My instructor had a fairly thick accent (German? Russian?), spoke quickly, and had a soft voice. The area with the forges is loud because of all the fires going and the air blowing about. I constantly had to make her repeat things (which clearly annoyed her). I understood less than one-third of what she said, and instead had to rely on her demonstations. When I wasnt doing it right, she would push me out of the way to do it. When it came time to blow the glass, she told me I couldnt hold the pole while she was rolling it around to shape the glass. Where the pole was situated, it was at knee-height and she was constantly rolling the pole away from me. I had no idea how I was supposed to blow constantly while bending over while the pole was rolling this way and that , but luckily another worker saw what has happening and gave me a flexible tube to attach to the end of pole so I was able to sit down and blow consistently. Compared to the other students around me, I did maybe one-fourth of the work they did; their instructors spoke loudly and clearly, gave them good instructions, and would help them to understand what they were supposed to be doing. My instructor just made me feel dumb (and Im into all sorts of art mediums, so its not like Im new to this sort of thing). I didnt care so much about the final product as I did about the process, and my instructor completely ruined the experience for me. My bowl is imperfect, as I expected it to be, but I just wish I contributed more to its imperfection. It was a frustrating experience overall; I knew there would be parts she would have to do since shes the expert, but it really felt like I just watched the entire time. After she put the bowl in the place where they cooled, she literally just walked away from me and I didnt see her again. Im just glad I didnt pay $150 for this experience. -- I did give it 2 stars because the rest of the staff was nice and helpful.
