These people do a Herculean task on a David budget. They know all about the animals they care for and do a marvelous job at caring for them and getting them back into the wild. The ones that they cant they still take marvellous care of knowing that they will never get back to their original home. But they provide so much enrichment to them. They are not just board animals inside fenced enclosures which are pretty big. I support them as much as my budget will allow. Hope you will too.

Awesome hidden gem. Great for families, couples, or on your own. Tours are 9-11 am most days. Even in middle of summer, its very reasonable out there - almost all of the tour is in shade (but bring water, if its a hot day).Interesting and educated tour guides talk you through their entire wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs. Over 300 animals in total with excellent examples of most species able to be seen easily and up close. Everything from raptors to gray wolves to black bears. The big cats are super cool, too.Very glad we were able to find this place (they should do more marketing).

We are now big fans of Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center. We brought three generations of our family together to learn about the rehabilitation of injured wildlife. It was bonding for us as a family to experience the wonder of goodness that this sanctuary offers to needy animals. It was two hours of a personal tour (thank you, Penny), that taught us a newfound love and respect for animals unique to the southwest. All the animals were awesome and interesting, but the large turtle won my heart! Gratitude and thanks go out to all the passionate people who have made this open to the public. We will definitely plan another trip here, will donate to the cause, and will recommend it to others! ---Jane B. Johnson

Also, getting up close and personal with some creatures you know are out here locally but you wouldnt want to encounter without bars, really gives you an appreciation for the fauna around us. The staff couldnt be more passionate about the cause and made it engaging for the kids - although the activity is age agnostic for sure.

This was a last minute decision to go to the SW Wildlife Conservation..but I so glad I did. Diane was our tour guide who was excellent. She shared all the backstories of the animals. They try their best to be able to rehabilitate injuried animals back to the wild. They even have a special area for baby animals that they work with so that when the time is right are able to get them back into the wild. There are some animals that will never be able to survive in the wild. These animals will be in the sanctuary care for the rest of their lives. You can tell no matter what group the animals fall into...you can tell that the caretakers love what they do...and the animals maybe for the first time in their lives know that they are loved and safe.I have shared my experience with friends already and they are planning their trip here.So if you are in the Scottsdale area and what a great experience of your own ..plan your own trip here. You will not regret it!

Amazing place! So much to learn about our wildlife whose environment we humans moved into. Come to learn about their habits and uniqueness. SWCC takes large mammals into sanctuary if for some reason they cannot be returned to their native environment. Otherwise, animals brought to SWCC are rehabilitated and carefully returned to the wild. You must all visit! Appreciate our desert wildlife - you will be inspired to learn more, bring friends, and support the efforts of SWCC!

I was visiting Mesa for a work conference. My husband and I searched the web for local things to do during some down time and we chose a visit to the center on 1/26/17. This is NOT a zoo. We were given a great tour of this rescue facility that is home to several specimens of the worlds most endangered species, the Mexican gray wolf. Beautiful animals. We were chased around by a fearless huge tortoise that loves carrots. Also present were some coatis, deer, mountain lions, bears, javelinas, foxes and others. The center has no government support and relies on private donations in cash or kind. A very worthy cause. Tours are $25and go to support their efforts. We all loved it!

My girlfriend and I took a quick trip to Phoenix and found this highly recommended on Yelp and Google. We are huge animal people (read as lovers of animals, not massive human and animal hybrid organisms) and love zoos but often find ourselves feeling put off by the living conditions they inflict on their animals.Southwest was so refreshing in that all of the beautiful animals you get to see are permanent residents (the ones being released are kept out of sight of guests so they dont imprint on humans) and are very well cared for. Their enclosures are sprawling and well-maintained, receive proper diets, and are cared for by knowledgeable staff that volunteer their time out of love for animals. The animals they show during the tour include a dozen Mexican grey wolves, several hawks and owls, several mountain lions, four bears, a leopard-jaguar hybrid, Kit foxes, Designer foxes, porcupines, deer, coyotes, Cotamundi, giant tortoise, and several other species of foxes whose names I can’t remember. The tour lasts just around two hours and is very informative and a lot of fun. Our guide, Tara, was an absolute treasure. She very obviously had a great relationship with all the animals, was very personable, and paced everything very well. She said she was on her 6th year of volunteering at Southwest after a visit with her daughter turned her into a permanent fixture at the conservation center. Between facts about the animals and her jokes, my girlfriend and I were having just a wonderful time.Complimentary water is offered with several drinking fountains throughout the area. There is a gift shop at the front of the property with lots of cool keepsakes. Most importantly, Southwest is a privately-funded catch-and release center that rehabilitated and released 91% of their animals in 2017. Tour ticket sales and donations keep this wonderful place going, and I would definitely recommend a visit.
