We flew in to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The theater was perfectly sized to embrace and enjoy the entire day. The entry process was well organized. The lobby was well configured and a blast to socialize in. The available foods and drinks were well prepared and tasty. The theater was stunning. Comfy seats in the orchestra section. Perfect sound. Seat delivery of food and drink was welcomed. The entire staff was so comfortable to be around and engaging. Seeing my friend’s cane, they flushed out an extra chair to make her comfortable while waiting. We would certainly return for any performance.

Great Theatre! However it is much smaller than theaters in Los Angeles or New York, which is actually a good thing it makes the performances more intimate! Great location, but its SF so there are homeless everywhere, they are for the most part harmless. The Curran theater does allow you to bring in water which can be helpful for a long performance.

Extra star for the amazing staff. Tina-you went above and beyond for my son and me with the “owl delivery” but Tina was just one in a number of employees who were actively working to make patrons experience extra special.I would give the seating itself a 2 1/2 as I am 5’3” and the seats are so cramped. A good show will help you forget your discomfort and for me Harry Potter kept me focused on the show for 6 hours! BUT my back is quite sore today.Thank you Curran Staff you made an amazing show even better!!!!

Ive been back twice since the renovations completed and the theater looks great! Not so great is that all of the doors into the orchestra werent being manned so I had to double back to get a Playbill on my way to my seat. Also still leaving a bad taste is the demeanor of the staff when clearing the house after a performance.Harry Potter draws an incredibly young audience and when their elders tell them to wait in a specific spot while they go downstairs to the restroom, the staff should be cognizant of the situation at hand rather than force them to move to the other side of the curtain in the lobby. Seriously, having them remain on the entry level of the venue seems far more appropriate than leaving them to clog up the corridor on the lower level. A little tolerance here would speak volumes especially when considering the price of tickets.

This play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child kept right to the script, was a fantastic life experience that was enjoyed by everyone.

Came here for the Harry Potter play. The theater is beautiful and recently redone (with Harry Potter specific decor). The one drawback is the awful layout and recommendation to arrive an hour before showtime. We ended up being crammed into the tiny lobby area for over 30 minutes before they allowed us to go to our seats, and trying to get to the bar or bathrooms was nearly impossible as they were blocked by crowds of people milling about. Recommend showing up 20-30 mins before showtime and save yourself some headaches. Also, the bathroom situation is intense and be prepared to wait 20+ minutes at peak times, especially if youre female.

I am in town for the week on some leisure travel with my son. We caught a show at the Curran. It was Harry Patter: the cursed child parts 1 and 2. We sat near the back of the mezzanine, row J, seats 1 and 3. Even from the back of the mezzanine, the view was good. The Curran offered drinks and light snacks. Access to the mezzanine was easy. I believe I saw an elevator, though we did not use it. The Curran was perfectly suited for the magical show. The cast transformed from muggles to wizards, from one character to another, right before your eyes. The stage and props made the show even more exciting. I would come watch other productions at the Curran.

Super disappointed with my experience at the theater. The accommodation for people to enter to too small and they crowd people in like animals. Then treat them as such once they ask for some relief. Went to this venue to see The Cursed Child. Absolutely amazing performance that really left viewers feeling the magic. The venue itself is decent but mostly a means to an end.Im a very tall and rather large woman. My friends and I sat on the uppermost balcony in row L, seats 101-103. This was perfect for our party of three as its right next to the isle and next to me (103) was the projection booth. Luckily this spot next to a large wall did not obstruct the view and the wall was nice and cool considering all the heat rises. There was no one seated behind me which was nice space wise and sidney grace to worry about blocking someones view with my height. The halls of the venue are old fashioned in that they are narrow for the amount of people being sat. The chairs are definitely designed for those without hips. Cushions were decent as I didnt have anything going to sleep on me during the performance. The rows are incredibly spaced height wise so if the person in front sits up straight you have a clear view. However, if they or the person directly in front of them lean forward in the seat, their head will be in the way.Wish they had more AC so bring a fan if you get warm. My second wish would be for wider seats. Otherwise, works as a venue with interesting architecture, close restaurants with all price ranges (including a cheap Jack in the box), and pantry of nearby parking garages if youre not being driven in.Just because i have since critiques based on my own size and comfort does not make the venue any less functional. Would go again.

I missed something like 10% of the show because all the corner seats are in blind spot.I understand that viewing from the corner is different to the center but cant see what actors are performing is so not acceptable. Its an instant mood killer.Edit: I went into the theatre with disappointment as I was assigned the same seat for the part 2. But a Lady from the management recognized me from last time and voluntarily offered me a different seat. This seat has the best view. I change my ratings from 2 to 5 star for the best customer service.Thank you.

SO, this review is in regards to three aspects of The Curran Theater:I am a longtime group organizer and have bought many tickets for many shows, and am most impressed with all the aspects of the new Curran.First of all, the Group Sales Manager, Anthony, is a consummate professional. He has, in his tenure, mastered the task of dealing with finicky groups and stressed out group leaders. Anthony is unflappable, personable, and detail oriented. No call, question, or order ever goes long without a prompt return.Secondly, the staff in general. From the box office staff, to the friendly shepard ushers out front, in the lobby and in the auditorium, everyone had a smile and a helpful way about them. Even the bar staff were un-rushed and efficient. The line for drinks moved steadily.Thirdly, the building; The Curran has been beautifully restored, made modern while still retaining the old-world charm that defines it. I like how the box office is more like a concierge desk than a steel-barred bank teller window. The open-style lounge areas are spacious and yet warmly designed. As for the bathrooms, The Curran has done the best they could, given the age of the building, and the space. What I noticed in the mens room was that some women, who needed to use the restroom without delay, were given all due respect if they needed to use the mens.Someone here mentioned that the show did not start on time.... We just saw four halves of the Harry Potter show, and they all started on time. We have noticed, however that the tardiness of starting shows is the fault of lackadaisical theater goers.

This is definitely one of the best theaters in San Francisco. The auditorium was completely re vampd for an unusual type of stage show--The Jungle. The show was amazing and the layout was fantastic. The staff that work in the auditorium and at the front door box office are amazing. But the after-hours / call center operation is horrible. Personnel are poorly trained, and take much longer than necessary to do the simplest tasks. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes I spent an additional 15 minutes on the phone with what I thought was a box office, attempting to exchange $500 worth of tickets. The agent kept me on the phone until finally telling me, after I was put on hold twice, that all she could do is fill out the form and send it to the actual box office. when I spoke with the supervisor, the supervisor explained that this was the procedure. All it takes is one bad seed to bring down an otherwise fantastic review.I definitely recommend the Curran for your next theater experience, but do not call and talk to the people in the upstairs call center. They will ruin your experience.
