The club is closed to the membership now during the COVID-19 era but the beach is still available for swimming

This was a pretty unique experience. I met a member on the flight to SF and she invited me for an open water swim. The club is historic and nice. Everyone was super friendly. Viewing Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge and then turning around to see the city scape is an amazing experience because you’re in the water! After you get out, a shower and sauna is the best way to recover.

Was there in the middle of the day for the public swim... no one answered the door bell and had to wait outside for 20mins before giving up.

They truly welcome new members, they even have a monthly open house. The place is beautiful, and so are their boats. There is a group that gets to work on maintaining them. Where else can you enjoy a small private beach in San Francisco, cheap beautiful venue rentals for events, handball, old-style gym, ocean swimming, ocean going rowing shells, very nice and interesting locals, a dry sauna with a view of the beach below.

Amazing place. Private beach and dock for sunset views and drinks, plus swimming, rowing, handball. Also an ideal spot to begin and bike rides and runs. All for just over a dollar a day!

I came to South End Rowing Club with a group called pathstar. Its a week-long experience where you do a lot of sightseeing, walking, visiting Alcatraz, Ace Spice Shop, walking the Golden Gate Bridge, and swimming in the Aquatic Center. We were lucky to be able to use the South End Rowing Club as our home base. Then the piece de resistance was we swam off of Alcatraz Island into the Aquatic Center which is over one and a half miles. The serc building and all the people inside it were absolutely wonderful to me. If I lived in San Francisco I would definitely become a member. You guys & gals rock!

Great club, great people. Did my first Golden Gate Swim Aug. 13th. It was an amazing experience!!

The oldest and perhaps funkiest social club in San Francisco, the South End Rowing Club is ground zero for open water swimming, rowing and handball in the San Francisco bay area.
