I would highly recommend this tour. We attended on a Sunday afternoon and our tour guide was Patricia. She has a genuine love for the Mission area and a real care for the community she lives in, this community is facing some real pressures. But she showed how art can create change and strengthen community and her knowledge of the murals was amazing.

The Precita Eyes mural tour is a wonderful walk through the history of San Francisco and the mission, as seen from the perspective of the murals and artwork. The staff are super knowledgeable and really give tremendous insight into the politics, culture, and social environment behind the artwork. I learned a lot and had a great time. Highly recommended.

The women are very knowledgeable and have maps available for sale to help you find all the murals. I really appreciated all of the time the staff spent explaining the many varied stories that inspired many of the murals. If your in the mission, this is a necessary stop!

I took the Classic Mission Mural Walk tour. The slide show before the walk was very informative and explained the background history of street murals as a form of community expression. I wish I knew more about the political upheaval in places like Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Mexico that contributed to the images in much of the street art we observed. Overall, a good introduction to the purpose and spirit of art in the Mission.

At the Precita Eyes Murals you could definitely see how gentrification has taken its toll there. We went during the day time when usually its pretty busy, but the streets were mostly empty and it was very quiet from the usual noise you would hear back then. Overall, Cindy De Losa was very kind to us and she showed us her shadow boxes and some of the places that are now gone due to gentrification.

Learned about the Classic Mission Mural walking tour with Precita Eyes on 7x7. It’s $15 for SF residents, $20 general admission. Need to show proof of residency for the special rate. The tour is about 2 hours long. First hour consist of an indoor slide show where the tour guide provides for a brief history about the art of murals. The second hour, you take a walk down Balmy Street and around the neighborhood to see and listen to stories behind the murals paintings. It was interesting to learn about the history and stories behind the public artwork that we usually pass by too quickly to appreciate. If it wasnt for the tour, I wouldnt have known that the Mission district mural paintings are usually community projects where the people come together to paint in order to share their perspective/message, vs. murals in The Haight are usually business originated (business hire mural artists to paint what they wish to be shown on their walls).I think the tour could have been even more interesting if the history slide show session was shorter. Rather than talking thru some of the mural art on Balmy Street as part of the slide show, it would have been more interactive if stories were told about the murals as we strolled down Balmy Street. But overall, it was an educational experience!
