These are some well maintained and restored historical sites. These sites tell us a lot about the early settlers and the Christian missionary work in and around the area. Missions are located in beautiful picturesque surrounding. Near some of the missions you can do small hiking along the trails. There were lot of people biking around the missions and along the San Antonio river.

A true gem of Texas history! I had a great time walking around the grounds of this mission and checking out the old Spanish architecture. They dont make buildings like this anymore. If youre in San Antonio, this place is a must-visit. There was plenty of parking, but I was here on a weekday.

Great place to bring young kids or yourself to visually learn the history of the Mission San José. Mass is till currently celebrated on Sunday, not sure about weekdays. Please keep it quiet if go inside the church during a mass. Parking is free. Public restrooms are available. Theres a small gift shop with mostly catholic stuffs and decorations. Recommend to come into the gift shop to see how the living rooms look like inside.

I made a special trip here on my way. The grounds are very nice. The church is well preserved. Im glad I stopped but it was very disappointing that the visitor center was closed. No sign why or when theyd be open. No place to get my book stamped. I have visited 15 national parks this year and this is the first one that didnt have a stand outside so you could stamp your book. Bathrooms are closed also.

Worth the visit to see the four missions that are part of the National Park. Covid does have the visitor center closed, but Park Rangers were available at Mission San Jose. Each Mission is an active church, but we were able to see inside all, but Mission San Jose. The grounds are all open. Buildings (some partial) are available to walk through. The scale models at each give you a good understanding of what each looked like when fully operational. We drove but there are bike/walking trails between the missions. Google Maps made the drive easy. Parking was readily available at each Misson.

Of all the missions, this was my favorite but it also gets the busiest. But on a quiet morning when it first opens, it’s amazing. It’s a special place that teaches you about life was like there. The area around the mission might have changed but inside the walls things are different.

Beautiful mission church where you can feel the history. Not all this history is happy of course, but many generations had good moments around these walls and you can feel that.Especially liked Father Kevin and the handmade decorations at the pews made by members of the congregation. Lovely.Wonderful that Catholics kept this community alive and they still use this church for regular services. When we were there they prepared for a funeral.Sadly the gift shop was not open. I kind of hoped to buy something like those decorations at the pews. They were exquisite.

Very cool place to look around. Stopped by here when looking for local non-touristy attractions. Unfortunately, the visitors center was closed due to covid, but the mission itself was open. Lot of signs showing the history posted around. Very interesting seeing the history of the place. The historical chapel was also very beautiful.Highly recommend if you have the time. Although, Id suggest to go either before noon or during a cooler month. Theres not much shade.

Kids are able to do the Junior Ranger Program for the missions. Visit the Mission San Jose first to find the ranger station. If you can, finish the Junior Ranger program there before you visit the others as there are limited rangers at the other areas. You’ve likely heard of the Alamo, but less attention is given to the neighboring missions within the San Antonio area. They are no less impressive and in fact offer more insight into the past. They are better preserved than the Alamo and you will find additional peace and quiet here as compared to the Alamo given its popularity. There is a hike and bike trail, but we would recommend driving to each.

The best part was the guided tour with Ranger Michael Irving. He was a wealth of information and he had the art of integrating every question into his program and of getting all of the group to be actively participating in the tour. He would do well to perhaps pursue a career as a diplomat, but if he remains a ranger, what an asset for the Park Service! Bravo, Michael!

We were only able to visit a couple missions before they started closing down.

We started at one of the missions and rented the public bikes. We rode a total of 14 miles that day and visited 5 missions all in all. WONDERFUL TRIP!! It made the adventure outdoorsy while visiting historical sites. Each of the missions has a gift shop.It costs $12 to rent the bike for the day and you must dock it within each hour to check out another one. I suggest downloading the app before starting. If not, no big deal. It just makes it easier to check how many bikes are at each station, since the station we started at only had two working bikes, so two of us had to walk to the next station.San Antonio knows what its doing with their parks trails system. Wonderful experience. 10/10 recommend!

Theres a nice meandering trail with historic markers telling about the farm land that adjoined the Mission. Theres a picture of a beautiful painting of Mission Concepcion from the 1800s. Once you get to the river theres a nice little park, actually you can drive down there, but the walk is really nice and feels very safe. There are restrooms, playground and more historical markers. Take the short walk over the hill to the Riverwalk, turn right and youll come to the confluence of the San Antonio River and San Pedro Creek.
