Does man cave mean girls arent allowed I have a feeling it does. I couldnt find it I stood in the middle of the street for what seemed like all flipping day almost died. My cave will be so much better.

This pubmaster knows how to serve delicious frosty brews around a disorienting confluence of social liberalism and fiscal conservatism. I used to frequent one of his previous establishments every Thursday night, where he was always up for a friendly, but animated debate on almost any topic. Regardless of cogency, this discourse typically culminated with him ripping his t-shirt in half. (Not in an aggressive way, mind you. More celebratory.) (Also, he pre-cuts the collars to make it easier - dont be impressed with the action itself, but instead with the preparation). I knocked off a star for several reasons: 1) I havent actually been to this newest effort, 2) rusty nails protruding from the walls (I assume), and 3) the ever-present risk of IcyHot on the toilet seat.

You would think that Phils Man cave is losing a star because its right in the middle of State Street, but thats actually the most charming part about it. I feel safe when Im there. No, really I wish I could give this nifty little nugget five stars but I was just too turned off by the fact that the owner is never present to interact with loyal patrons. Why else would a regular like me not have met him (or her) yet?

Phil’s Man Cave is a promising new after work haunt in the Salt Lake City beer scene. The concept is strong but the execution is so far lacking. With a bit of work this place could be my favorite place to hang out for beers. Pros: the spirit of international brotherhood, beer taste, location, cover charge, conversation, price. Cons: chair comfort, temperature, number of available power outlets, lack of trains. The lawnmower brand struck me as slightly pretentious for the scene. A really cool reclaimed space.Update 3/21/17 Ive been informed that the publican has added some accessory power outlets. Now I can finally charge my electric all-weather unicycle, portable ear hair trimmer, palm pilot, personal neck cooler, and collection of pocket wind-up toy soldiers all while enjoying a cold brew at PsMC.

I finally had a chance to check out the cave recently after a day on the slopes. Beer selection was above average with plenty of local options. The owner is a brewer and has a deep knowledge of beer, wine, craft spirits, and pumpkin farming. Overrepresentation of northern latitudes in their flag display but canning supplies make it easy for on-the-fly preserving of fruits and what have you. Definitely coming back for more lively debates with the regular barflies.

What can you say about Phils Man Cave? Eccentric eclectic rustic? How about all three. Phils man cave, or as know by local regulars as simply the cave is a hot new south salt lake establishment located in a quaint old Utah neighborhood. Its a versatile place where you can throw a game of darts, practice your right hook, or just relax and listen to music (must be a fan of pink and Kendrick Lamar). Drake fans are not welcome. If you are in the neighborhood you must visit and say hello to the host the poutine potentate, the maple syrup mangler, Phil. Oh and in winter wear a jacket Canadians like it cold.

How do I describe this place? In some ways it feels like Ive been there my whole life. In other ways, like Ive never been at all.The number of beers on tap is matched only by the number of cool drafts leaking through the creaky wooden walls of this Salt Lake haunt. While the space is fresh, hip and totally reclaimed, Im left to wonder if this place will ever truly be reclaimed by the beer lovers of Salt Lake. Im confident that process is well underway with the addition of prominent local and Phils frequent Bobby Cieri. The man charges everything there - except his beer, of course. He pays cash. The bar has a minimum, and he carries cash. More people should carry cash, and Phil is helping with that.If youre looking for good conversation and a sudsy brew at a welcoming watering hole, this may be the place for you.

My husband visits this establishment at least 3x per week. I suspect the location is another dimension as I can never get through to his cell phone when he is there. Based on this alone, I wanted to leave a negative review but the owners Canadian accent and apologetic demeanor when I called in a huff put me at total ease. I hear the beer garden is especially nice in late spring.

It was a dark, cloudless night. The moon hung low on the horizon, chasing away stars. Heralding magic. I approached the location shared with me by close friends. It was exactly as they described it, but not at all what I had envisioned. Adrenaline coursed my body in anticipation of what may lie ahead; I focused my mind. I secured my equipment and abseiled down into Phil’s Man Cave.Passing by ancient walls, I ultimately felt the solid ground come up to support me. My eyes adjusted. A massive atrium wrought of gypsum and strewn with towering travertine stalagmites welcomed me. Did I hear laughter? I crossed the room gingerly and entered a grotto extending lazily to the north. Captivated, I beheld a pool, perfectly circular in shape, deep and restless as time itself. It bubbled endlessly but made no sound. Was it faintly glowing? I gazed. Tell me your secrets! Tell me my own.I started as from somewhere behind me I heard a bright rush of crisp air. Pssht! This place had more to show me. Leaving the grotto, I turned down a long, low hall, descending deeper. As I walked through a natural arch, I felt the mist rising from a small nearby waterfall. Where did it come from? Where did it go? Where did it come from, Cotton-Eye Joe? It babbled its response while I sat down nearby and rested. The soothing sound of the water was a lullaby. My eye lids drooped.I awoke the following morning in my bed. Was it all a dream? No. I was certain of that. I lay there, contemplating the experience. While I was there, I felt happy. The weight of the world was left on the surface. In Phil’s Man Cave, I belonged. The beer was pretty good too.

Overall perfection! This master brewer knows his stuff. From the hoppy, darks, blondes, sours and ales you cannot go wrong. Only compliant (my personal preference only) too many maple flavored selections, maybe it’s an ode to our northern neighbor? Will definitely be stopping by again and again.

The owner always has a killer story to share when you stop in, that’s half the reason why I frequent this small hole in the wall. If you like good brews and good company then this man cave is worth the visit.

Not to be confused with Phil’s Man Cove on the classy side of town... The Cave is a welcome departure from the daily grind. Truly an oasis of good vibes, good tunes and delicious brewskies. BYO Chex Mix!

Perfect 5/7. Came looking for beer and found it along with some good conversation from the bar keep and co. The location has slight overtones of sawdust, grass clippings, and state street.

Im torn with how many stars to rate this place. its certainly an interesting location with a decent enough selection of beers. it has a friendly but somewhat eccentric bar keep who has a vast knowledge of local beers. i have heard that this is quite the new local hotspot and i always like to try places a little off the beaten path, away from the tourist traps, and this place is defiantly a local gem. but i will confirm what i saw in another review that i too saw the owner rip his shirt off in some sort of strange celebration, i think over a card game, im still not sure what to make of it. overall very interesting crowd that the place draws in. im only giving the place 4 stars based on the lackluster food selection, mediocre at best. if they stepped up their food game and the owner kept his shirt on id consider changing it to a 5 star review.
