The museum has a wonderful collection of artifacts collected by Wilbur D. May on his travels around the globe. There are many interesting items to enjoy and a diverse collection of taxidermy animals, large to very small.

Review №2

I was not expecting such a variety or quantity of unusual items. The taxidermy alone would have been worth it, but there are extra cultural items like masks and weaponry that were just fascinating. The Arboretum is gorgeous and huge. Pretty sure I only got through some of it, and I would go back just to explore outside more. Cant recommend enough, any plant or bird lover would have a great time enjoying all the wildlife.

The museum is SMALL however the quality of the Artifacts is amazing . This is the ONLY place in NEVADA in which you can see a REAL HUMAN SHRUNKEN HEAD . The Wilbur collection is interesting from Animals to guns to artifacts to different kind of weapons .Worth my time and trip there .The Wilbur is a PERMANENT Exhibit then in other rooms they have traveling exhibits. Now they are having a Hero Theme and I must say...I am not a kid , I dont have kids but I had so much fun!

What an amazing arboretum! Expansive grounds, great species, beautifully cultivated collections, whether youre a plant geek or just enjoy a beautiful walk, this is THE place to go in Northern Nevada for a walk among the trees. The staff also loves working with educational groups, so consider this for a cool science field trip, too!

This is a hidden gem in Reno! The old buildings are preserved. Theres a beautiful arboretum, and a fabulous museum which contains Wilbur Mays collection of wonderful items he collected in his travels around the world. The citizens of Reno bought this Old Ranch and have converted it into a lovely Oasis.

Didnt expect this to amount to much but it was outstanding. An incredible collection of safari trophies, horse awards, African and other parts of the world collectibles and a series of dioramas with additional African animals. Short movie explaining who Wilber May was and detailing some of his background and exploits set the stage for the museum. Very well done. We didnt visit the attached Arboretum and Botanical Garden but those should add to the experience.

Great location for weddings, family reunions, corporate functions, and anything else you need a nice large space for. The park is ample for outdoor events and the buildings are nice and spacious. Lots of parking, and easy to get to. Being from out of town it was easy to locate, navigate parking, and finding the event.

Can’t tell if this is for the park arboretum or the museum. There should be one listing for each. The hours to the park are always wonky when you look them up online and as versus what it says on the front gate. The park is actually quite beautiful in the winter time and the cold doesn’t stop people from coming out. I love to visit when I’m in from Sac and breathe the non polluted Reno mountain air. Lots of people walking their dogs, unfortunately many don’t care to read or see the signs where to go with them. The weekend gets busy as I’ve seen and I never see any people working on the weekend when I visit from Sac. Somehow the park arboretum stays relatively clean though. They close the bathrooms and water fountains half the year it seems and no place to get food or water here which seems like they could benefit from that. Quite a nice place to walk and clear your head though.

I have been here many times over the years. It often has wonderful and educational displays. We came here for a wedding recently and before heading inside Wilbur D. May Center we looked around outside. Nope, no wedding. So we went up to the Door of the Center. Yep, Wedding was inside.I was really surprised that the wedding was inside the Wilbur D. May Center. I didnt know you could rent it out for special events. Did you? They had the wedding in the main area. Then the catered food was like in the hallway area towards the back room area. It was a little confusing as everyone had to leave the wedding area while the chairs were moved and tables were brought in. I must say it did go quickly. It was a lovely wedding and nice reception complete with dancing. It really is a lovely spot to get married in.
