This was taken on the Bay area ridge trail. Nice trail with good coverage for hot days, nice rolling hills and amazing trees along the trail. You can connect to a lot of other trails. This particular tree is fascinating. I have been trying to information on what makes the bark twist. The only thing to look out for is poison oak along the trails, where tall socks.

Took the Tafoni and Fir trail, known for mountain biking but also open for hikers. Be mindful about your surroundings to prevent any collisions. Some may find this hike boring but I enjoyed the fresh smell of nature from the redwoods. Dont forget to stop by the sandstone to see the unique structure. 90% shaded so perfect for warm weather but still relaxing to walk through during cooler temperatures. Small view of the ocean at Vista Point and one picnic table.

The El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve is a nice place to go hiking. There isnt to much great scenery but the forest scenery is nice. The significant destinations in the preserve are the sandstone formations, vista point and old redwood grove. The preserve is a mix of single track trails and fire road wide trails.

This is a great place for hiking and biking. The trail segments are short so you can do a different loop every time, and the junctions are well signed allowing you to easily navigate the twisty beautiful trails. Trails can be steep, but thats par for the course anywhere off Skyline.

Great. Lots of people, but therere all rei people and they stay near skyline Blvd, walk down to the other end of the park and theres basically no-one. There are also quite a few old growth trees if you know where to look. I think Ive counted 13.

We had a great walk, trail was shaded and cool. Saw a lot of banana slugs of all sizes. Use your phone map instead of the map provided. Signs are not reliable. Map out the trail you want to take before starting and try to understand the elevation. Some of those trails are not moderate.

Skeggs, as its known to local mountain bikers, has some of the best trails in northern California. Technical single track, steep terrain, redwoods, and ocean views. There are multiple parking lots along Skyline Blvd, with the southern most lot having a bike repair station and restrooms.

Great place to get out that isnt too far. Nice variety of trails that should provide an option for most everyone. Both the tafoni formation and the old growth redwood are worth visiting, and neither are too far in. Trail maps (that you should return like requested) are available at the entrances. If youre walking just keep an ear or eye out for mountain bikers, some will really fly downhill.

Beautiful hike with plenty of shade. Definitely a strenuous hike. A beautiful gem hidden in between woods. No cellular reception on the hike. There is a notice of the possibility of spotting a mountain lion on the hike so be careful. Get plenty of snacks and lunch for the hike. The parking is on the other side of the highway. A bunch of Vista points on the hike. No restrooms or water.

These are some of the best trails within 40 miles of San Jose. Its got a little bit of everything from tight technical single track to very scenic fire roads. It can be a bit tricky navigating. Makes sure you have a map and plenty of water. Be careful not to drop down to far unless your ready for a long climb out.

Love mountain biking here. Im sure you can hike it as well but it has a lot of mountain bikers on the trails. I dont see a lot of hikers on the bike trails so maybe they have separate trails. Single tracks, drops, rock gardens, this place has it all. Resolution trail is great so far I have not had a bad ride here. You start at the top and go down hill then climb back out to your car.

This is one of my favorite parks to hike in bay area. This park has a lot of trails that can be stitched together to make hike of any length. Most of the trails go up and down constantly, which some people like and other not so much. This is one of the reason why this park is also popular with mountain bikers. I found them to be cordial and respectful of hikers. As an added bonus, this park has some cool sandstone formation from the days when this whole area was under water.

Great spot for hiking and even better for mountain biking. The lush canopy keeps the dirt from drying out too much even during the hot months. Bikers should use a bell because its pretty easy to run into hikers around some of the low visibility corners.
