Staff is always polite and always willing to help. They can get backed up but when they do they serve you in the order you came in and are always helping you with your needs and not just selling specific products. I would recommend this one even over their other locations I greatly appreciate everything this store has done for me and I owe my success as a fish keeper to them. Thank you guys!!

Always a pleasure chatting w the manager Daniel. Vast coral selection, (I even took home a nice goni, I’m pretty picky these days.) Picked up a yellow tail cleaner wrasse as well. He was out swimming and meeting new tank mates within a couple hours. Have been shopping w these guys ever since I got into the hobby over 5+ years ago.

I went in The Fish room to get items specifically surprise my husband with a saltwater tank. Because I have no clue what Im looking for, I was seeking a place with experts to help. I honestly wanted to just pay someone to come in and set it up for us. however, I was in the store for 10 minutes and no one acknowledged me at all while 2 other customers that came in after me were at greeted and asked if they needed assistance. I cant spend money at a place that cant even greet me. Im disappointed to say the least.

Extremely unhealthy aquariums, this is the worst LFS Ive seen.Over half of the guppies have fin rot, some have visible fungal infections as well.They have fin nippers in the same tank as the angelfish, which is one reason that every angelfish has severe fin rot. One didnt even have a tail anymore, as the fin rot had reached the body.Fish feeding on dead fish in multiple aquariums.They clearly do not care about the health of their fish.Will not be returning. I no longer have second thoughts about paying for shipping from Imperial Tropicals

This is a very good spot to find all of your salt water in freshwater fish. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful they know a lot about fish.

I had a lot of goldfish questions when I bought my tank, and the employees were helpful with answering and recommending products for care. I just picked up that tank and two employees, I think Mike and Jacob, went well out of their way to help me out with getting it into my car. I was ready to leave and come back, but they made it happen and Im so grateful!

Easily the best fish store in the area, they have a wide variety of fresh and salt water creatures, I’ve been here countless times for fish, shrimp, snails etc! Super knowledgeable staff, all of which are very friendly. 5/5 would recommend, hands down!

All of the fish I have bought are always happy and healthy and thrive in my tank. The staff are always super helpful and I love how they take the time to answer your questions and give you advice! There are other fish places that are closer to me, but I always drive the 50 minutes to this place.

Used to go here all the time, have spent literally thousands here on our reef tanks, plan to never return after most recent experience. So I should begin by stating that while a few staff are knowledgeable I have been sold mislabeled items, such as a Variable starfish labeled as a Marbled Fromia. A mantis I was told was the punching type by one of the managers that is a spear fisher, etc. VERIFY EVERYTHING otherwise your setting yourself up for failure by listening to this store. The final issue I ran into though was with my recent purchase of a purple tang (A $230 fish) that after being told for almost a solid five minutes about how much care goes into them and such I brought it home. Under shop lighting it looked fine, once fully acclimated to my display and introduced I noticed immediately it was COVERED in velvet as was the other fish we bought. Now I have lost half my livestock and probably will loose more in the process of treating it. This is not the first time we have run into this, but it will be the last. 10/10 I would NOT recommend this store to anyone. Another note would be the aquarium installations, My return pump is literally on an edge given no care was taken to make sure it was even seated or level before hooking the line up so it was cut too short to begin with. Save yourself the time and trouble and go somewhere else, or even better buy online where you know your getting what its being sold as.

I have been going here for several years and feel like less and less care is going into the place. The Raleigh location was getting a bit bad before the remodel, but after the remodel the employees kept everything clean and healthy and the employees almost seemed to have pride in helping you. Its is definitely slipping again.I was just in and there were tanks infested with ick that employees were bagging plants for a customer out of. There were no signs for the tanks that did have ick to warn customer or to inform customers that they wouldnt be selling anything out of them until it was cured. There were very few live plants in stock which werent looking to good, the tanks were dirty, and there are always several dead freshwater fish sprinkled about.I dont do saltwater tanks which obviously bring in more money for them but the fresh water sections are horrible. I will see a specific fish in once or twice, buy some thinking I can go in later to buy more so I dont add too many fish to my tank at once and bomb my water quality, and then I never see them in there again.I literally went in today for live plants and substrate and left with nothing. Not one employee even said hello to me.I liked going here for specialty fish and live plants that arent carried at big pet stores and for the health and cleanliness of the tanks; however, that is something the Raleigh location doesnt offer anymore. Ill go to the Cary location even though this location is a 35 minute drive for me and the Cary one is further.

I have been here several times. I have bought several fish, decorations, supplies and even fish antibiotics. Every visit the employees have been knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.

As good a reef shop as you will ever find. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and excellent selection and service. Found some really exceptional specimens of saltwater fish here. I highly recommend this shop to all saltwater aquarists.

Over all they have a pretty good selection. I wish they would order more mandarin dragonets. Every time I go if they do have one it says its already sold :( tons of great corals though and friendly staff.

They were very helpful with making a decision and made sure I had enough knowledge to make the right decision. The selection on hand was above and beyond anything Ive seen and made adding a variety simple. I couldnt be happier! Cant wait to go back and expand my setup. This is the closest reputable fish store in my area and have great staff thats knowledgeable to help answer questions.Had to return a fish that passed and they helped me out and got it replaced. Definitely worth the drive and always have a great stock of fishes so take your time and pick which one fits your tank.as a hobbyists it’s definitely fun to visit the shop.

Walked in today and more than half of their selection has some kind of sickness or ick. Its essentially animal abuse. There were no signs saying the fish are sick. If you seriously care about animals please do not shop here. If you are new at buying fish do NOT buy a fish that is covered in white dots. Its despicable.

Awesome store, super friendly staff and great fish. Recently moved to the area and was pleasantly surprised that the fish room was located near my office. Have setup three tanks with fish from the fish room and have had success with all of them. Just picked up some great looking dragonstone and sand for another tank, as well as 6 new ember tetras that needed a good home. Prices on equipment can be higher, but their fish are all reasonable and their tanks appear to be well maintained. If your looking for a great place to feed your aquarium habit, check out the fish room, you wont be disappointed.

My wife and I love The Fish Room. They have great prices on corals! And decent prices on fish as well. Very clean store at all times. My only complaint and the reason for not giving 5 stars is sometimes it is hard to get someone to help you when youve finished browsing and made a selection on something. But mostly I think that is due to how busy they are alot of times I have been in there.

Ive made two purchases at the North Raleigh location (tetras both times), and both times those tetras had ick, and infected our tank, and both times all of the tetras as well as the other fish in the tank died. Probably not going back again.

Dont be fooled by the simplicity of the exterior. This fish store is very well managed, clean, and has a variety of beautiful fish. Love the vibrant, mellow atmosphere here. One of the best places Ive been to in the area.

These guys are great. Super knowledgeable. I go there primarily for their cichlid selection. They’ve got dozens of species, not just the standard “assorted African cichlids” that you’ll find at Petsmart, etc. they also get random high-end pleco species like green phantom and orange fringed... the pics below are a couple species I purchased at Fish Room.

The Fish Room was exactly what I was looking for. The store itself is very clean which if you have been to other stores you know is a nice change. Most of the tanks are salt was focused but there is a large tank in the back that has a good variety of freshwater plants. The prices are very competitive and the plants are very healthy. It is also nice to have clear signs on the aquarium that let you know how much each plant cost instead of some of the guessing games you play at other fish stores. The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable which made the whole experience excellent. I will be back for sure soon!

A clean store with both options of freshwater and saltwater fish and accessories. Staff has always been friendly on the times that they do approach and ask if you would like any help. I have often gone to the store and looked around for a half hour or more without a single attempt to see if I would like to purchase any fish. Of course it sounds like I’m dying to just wait around to post a negative review but as a customer who frequents the store and to go beyond 30 minutes for acknowledgment is ridiculous. Every time I go back and get similar dissatisfactory service it reminds me why I try to avoid the store.I wish I didn’t feel the way that I did do it to my experiences because they always have a great selection of African cichlids.

They were very helpful with helping me decided which fish I should have for my community tank and the price of the fish here are really good. Every fish is well taken care of and healthy.

The Fish Room is a great local fish store with lots to offer. They can order fish on a wishlist if they dont currently have what you are looking for, and they have reasonably priced live rock for saltwater aquariums. That being said, I definitely prefer the Raleigh location over the Cary one. The employees are always helpful!

The staff who work here are very knowledgeable, friendly, courteous oh, and helpful. I have a 10 gallon tank with tetras, and nerite snails, and plants. They have helped me storing all about how to keep the stash, things to look out for, best food for them, and ideal water changing schedules. They have a wonderful supply of fresh and saltwater fish, plants, and crustaceans.

I’ve gotten all of my exotic fish, micro fish, shrimp, plants and tanks from here and the staff has always been nothing but insightful and patient with me. They’ve helped me learn everything I need to know about starting up my saltwater tank and everything I already know is also thanks to them. If you ever need anything for your aquarium or are a first timer, this is absolutely the place you want to go!!! I love this store! The fish they supply are gorgeous, but what really makes them great is the staff. They are all so friendly and knowledgeable. I have been to the store often in the past month to get some self sustaining ecosystems set up. Mike has done an amazing job helping me. He really goes the extra mile every time I’ve come in and I feel that is a rare thing to find when going to other stores. I appreciate Mike’s help and the help from all the staff. I will be recommending this store to my friends.

I saw a dead or dying fish in pretty much every freshwater tank, the bettas were in terrible condition, and the staff wasn’t very friendly. I had high hopes, pretty disappointed.

We got a beta fish from here. They were pretty helpful and the fish was reasonably priced. They have a nice selection to choose from!

They answered my questions and gave me awesome advise. Great selection of live plants and fish. Cant wait to set up my new tank.

Talked with the sales staff in July about ordering me a not too common sized tank, but still a standard size. They told me at first it would take a week to get the tank in. A week passed and nothing I sent them a message and they responded that they had spoke to their rep. The tanks had come in but not hit the shelf yet to be ordered so it would be another week. Another week passed and nothing, so I reached back out and they responded and gave me an option of another brand of tank with black silicone seams. I didnt want that. They are listed as a vendor of Ithe tank company I requested. So I explained I would wait until they could get a hold of the tank I wanted and that they said they had ordered for me. They told me they would keep me in the loop.Well here we are the beginning of October and I have heard nothing from them. 4 months and they couldnt get the tank or reply with anything. Not happy and will not be using them to stock my tank, when I get one.-Update-Upgraded to a two star.They got back to me in late December and informed me that their distributor is no longer carrying that size of tank with clear silicone. I am thankful for the update but it still feels way too late. Seeing as I have gone a different direction, and already purchased a tank elsewhere.

Good selection of fish. I went there to check out their African cichlids. Most of what they have are very small, but they do have one larger tank with larger cichlids in it. Found 3 I really wanted, but did not purchase because a couple of their tank mates had issues. I pointed it out to the associate and she thanked me and assured me they would be taken care of. I will shop there again.

Most of the fish were sick the freshwater fish had ick. Most of the saltwater fish had fog eye and velvet. I was not impressed by the fish at all.

This is a small local fish store, but it has so many variety of freshwater and saltwater fishes. The fishes are always healthy. They have the quarantined tanks so that the fishes are healthy. They also offer a collection of live plants for fresh water as well as corral. Their price is very competitive.Highly recommended

Its been awhile since Ive been to the fish room. But I just came back yesterday and it was a really nice experience. Theyve updated all the tanks and everything looks very nice. Its not a very large fish store but it has a great selection of healthy fish. On the right side of the store are all the saltwater fishing and on the left side of the store are all of the tropical fish. The staff working there also seems very knowledgeable and they have some beautiful tanks set up. The fish look a lot healthier than they do at other stores and they have an interesting selection.
