This is a great place to get work done if you dont have your own space and tools. The people were friendly and welcoming as we were shown around.

We want to thank everyone at ADX for your kindness and most of all for opening this space to the public. Meeting Mr.Charlie and the beautiful art he creates was very special for our children. Mostly we want to thank Tim Hamilton for the time he dedicated to us and for helping our son build the St. John’s Bridge for a school project. Tim you are beyond gifted and both our children are sad that this project is over. Your gift goes on beyond art you are amazing with kids (summer camp please). We look forward to more project with you in the near future!! Many blessings and thanks again for the seed you planted in Noah’s life this will be one of those moments that he will forever remember! We thank you Tim & everyone at ADX!

ADX is a great maker space. All the tools I need in one place. I use their laser cutter and other fabrication services frequently for the puzzles and devices I build for work. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They offer some great and fun classes as well.

ADX is the best thing I have found in Portland! Truly a COMMUNITY work-space where you are inspired and encouraged by others around you. Considering under one roof you have wood-working, metal working, screen-printing, sewing, jewelry, upholstery, a powerful laser cutter, and 10,000 sqft to play, the only limit to a project is your own imagination!

Im very torn on ADX. The staff and volunteers are lovely, but their mission is somewhat contradictory. They want to be a community space, but function primarily as a for-profit business whose revenue comes from other businesses - the full time members who base their work our of ADX.They are excellent with newbies who only want to make occasional use of the space, but its difficult for a more experienced member who wants to work there a few hours a week - if the fab team is using something, well, better luck next time.I was a member for six or so months but felt pushed out as the place expanded. I would recommend it for those who plan to be there on average less than an hour a week, or more than 15. Anything in between puts you in a tough spot.

I am so disappointed with this place. The founder/director, Kelley Roy, has very unethical business practices.I developed a strange injury on one of my hands about a week prior to the first class I was supposed to take at ADX. I called, and the person I spoke to was kind enough to reschedule my class a month out. I was not told of any future stipulations regarding rescheduling or refunds because of this action.A month later, and it turns out my finger has a much more severe injury than I thought. I am barely able to use my middle finger on my dominant hand (but if I could, I would point it at ADX). I have a chronic condition that will take quite a bit of time to heal.I called and emailed ADX explaining my situation and asking to again reschedule or for a refund.I was told by Kelley that they will not offer me a refund or reschedule my class. That because I had already rescheduled once, I couldn’t get a refund. At the time I wrote to her this afternoon, nowhere in ADX’s policy did it specify such a rule. It simply said that a 10% fee would be assessed for cancellations as long as they occurred prior to 72 hours before the class. I took a screen shot of this and emailed it to Kelley. When I went back to that same web page fifteen minutes later, I noticed it had been changed. It now says “no refunds will be offered after the first reschedule” not one, but three times. After every paragraph. She added these statements AFTER I had asked for a refund based on their written policy as it was at the time. Talk about cheap. Talk about rude. Talk about passive aggressive. I would expect a small business owner to have more class than that.TL;DRAfter asking the founder, Kelley Roy, to honor her refund policy as written on her website, she refused, and then proceeded to change her policies on the website within moments of my request. I emailed and expressed my disappointment with her behavior and asked her to honor what the company policy said at the time I asked. I have not heard back from her regarding this issue. This is not ethical behavior for a small business owner in Portland who wishes to make it in the long run. It is embarrassingly hostile and immature. I had planned on taking numerous classes at ADX. I was excited about it, as I live in the neighborhood. Now I will never go back there and I’ll help ensure no one else in my community does either.*Note that the times on the screenshots of ADX’s company policy are 20 minutes apart on either end of my conversation with Kelley

These folks do a great job teaching and helping others create. If I lived in Portland, this would be my second home.I was invited to an Intel sponsored Hackathon around the new Intel Edison processor. The event was held at ADX.What a fantastic resource.

A great space for makers! Group events, classes and shop space for welding, woodworking and even 3d printing, right in the heart of inner SE.

Great place with a few annoying drawbacks. Clean, safe, great equipment, and mostly awesome staff minus one lead fab guy with a less than pleasant personality. I feel its a little more profit driven than community driven as all non-standard equipment costs quite a bit extra to use and memberships are pretty spendy. Plus, adx contracted projects can often get in the way of paying members who are trying to use the shop too. Its also disheartening that they want working members to volunteer 40 hours a month for a $200 membership credit. Basically $5 an hour? Thats crazy! Not to mention that half of the time they are working on projects adx gets paid for. But other than those drawbacks, lots of opportunity to learn and do new things. Great place for women to comfortably get immersed in an environment that has traditionally been masculine dominant. I would say that is probably the best thing about adx.
