The Wet Spot is the premier store for all things tropical fish in Portland. They offer a huge selection of fish and supplies, and their staff are knowledgeable and friendly! Im a beginner and I went in to get a light, supplies, and more fish for the aquarium I took over from my friend. Andy helped me and answered all my questions. He told me he has 40 tanks! Wow! Thats some enthusiasm. This new fish mom went home happy, and is really enjoying the gourami and fancy guppies.

This is a pretty decent fish store. I’ve been in 3 or 4 times and half of the time the workers are really nice and the other half of the time their very rude. It just depends on who’s working. Aside from that, I’ve gotten a handful of fish, snails, and plants here and they’ve turned out fine. I’ve also gotten a small tank and different decorations/accessories. Most of the underwater plants died, but that is probably from my own inexperience. Everything is fairly priced as well. The pics are of my lil beta tank, everything pictured I purchased from here.

Beautiful store. The sale tanks are as beautiful as your average stores display tanks. They did a great job limiting customer capacity to avoid COVID spread and all staff were very friendly. The fish selection is massive and diverse. Pricing was varied with some great deals and other prices Id consider a bit high, but overall Id say most fish were somewhere between fair and great deals! I will definitely be back. Many rare species you cant find anywhere else.

UPDATE, they have edited their website to reflex the actual size so I bumped them up a star or two!*Thank you for fixing your website. :-)I phoned in an order for pickup which was nice and easy, I ordered some shrimp and a Zebra throne snail which according to there website should be from 1/2 inch to 1 inch. This little guy was only about 1/4 of inch which I did not find out until I was back at home. I called and let management know that there website info was wrong, she seemed to know that they have been that size for a while and that the website gets updated on Fridays... They did offer to refund my money if I brought the 3 dollar snail back, which is way more of a pain then it is worth.

I have never experienced such bad customer service. Everyone I know who has been here has been either ignored or had one of the employees talk very rudely to them. Before covid I sat at the counter for 15 MINUTES while three girls sat and talked. I kept trying to get their attention but I was ignored and glared at. They also told someone I know that they have “a bad taste in fish.” Seriously, how is this place still open?

We ordered 8 Rummy Nose Tetras, and they were shipped completely across the country. They arrived in beautiful packaging (Styrofoam on all sides, with a heated pad at the top, paper for insulation, and then double bagged in very high quality bags. All arrived alive and are currently warming up to our tank.Wonderful experience!

Today we visited Wet Spot for the very first time and were absolutely amazed at our experience. The selection is better than any other store we’ve been to, we specifically went to get 3 kinds of fish we couldn’t find anywhere else. We greatly appreciated how careful everyone is being with the Covid situation. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Even though there was a wait to get in, we never felt rushed to get out which was very nice. We couldn’t have asked for a better first visit, it certainly won’t be the last!

This is my second time ordering fish from Wet Spot Tropical Fish. They carry hard to find fish even though I live in the Los Angeles area. I purchase 12 Red Neon Rainbows and received 12 beautiful fish--much larger than I expected. Wet Spot is my go to when I cant find a species locally. Fish are packed carefully and havent had a DOA yet. The staff are amazing and always prompt and helpful. Highly recommend! Will try and add a photo later.

They have a good selection of fish here, and the staff is incredibly helpful! Its got a very friendly atmosphere and there seems to be everything you need to set up a tank.My only grievance is that there seemed to be some sick fish, and there were also invasive species in the tanks that most owners try desperately to avoid infecting their own home aquariums with.

I ordered online as part of the anniversary sale because I saw they had red eye puffers available (Carinotetraodon irrubesco). I asked for one male and two females is possible and that’s what they sent in a well packed shipment with a warm heat pack. The fish are healthy and looking excellent! The online ordering process is a bit of a process to go through, you have to email, receive a phone call, provide payment info, then wait for confirmation that fish are available and shipment prepared (at that point you will be charged), but the team triple checks for accuracy. Will definitely order again!

So many fish, it was almost overwhelming. Such great varieties of rarely seen aquarium fish, very few of those basic run-of-the-mill, generic fish that you can find in any fish store in the country. Their stock was extremely healthy and absolutely beautiful.Also, I was really impressed with their COVID management, they were being very responsible so I appreciated the extra steps to get inside.

Ordered a list of uncommon fish from Lake Inle. Most were wild caught. They arrived quickly and healthy. With wild caught fish I somewhat expected them to be smaller and poor looking on arrival, but these were larger than expected, looked well fed, and colored up almost immediately upon getting them in my quarantine tank. I went in to the store today. My first visit since COVID. I wanted to purchase some fish and needed an air pump. I asked for an air pump. The lady did not let me look at the pumps, but just brought me one. I told her I was looking for an extremely quiet pump. The one she promised was quiet will be going back without being hooked up for less than two minutes. It is not quiet at all. My second complaint is I wanted to buy fish. She just rang up the pump, and thanked me for coming in. She motioned towards the door as if asking me to leave. I was disappointed and upset that I did not even say anything to her. I just left without my fish.

This is a good shop for your niche purchases as they do carry a great inventory. This shop is not good, however, if you want to build a relationship with your LFS based on loyalty and trust (both ways).Initially, was very happy to shop here. I just moved back to the Portland area and was eager to get a new tank started.I purchased mainly their discus but other South American fish as well. Their discus are gorgeous and priced fairly. Mine are thriving and couldn’t be happier.Unfortunately the last batch of fish that I put in must have come with ich already attached because two days after I got them I got ich. I understand that ich can be suspended in the water, but I run a Potent. UV sanitation filter and in addition I had just got done treating another ich infestation that now I’m sure came from them as well since all my fish are purchased at Wet Spot Tropical Fish. The treatment had been successful and I’m confident it’s not a recurring infestation.In any case, when I called to tell them the answer I was given, in not so many words, was that they’re fish are fine, they’ll check them again to make sure but that’s it, basically it seems that it’s my fault. Again, I’ve not purchased any dish from anyone else and both times I got it was right after I bought new fish from them. They got a good selection of fish but I’m going to support another shop from now on since I can’t be certain I can trust this shop. They don’t seem too bothered to potentially loose a good customer (I’ve spent well 750 bucks here in my first weeks as a new shopper). I won’t be returning and will instead shop locally at another shop, or even online even though I prefer to support local businesses. It’s up to these businesses to want to be supported. Particularly during these trying times.

This is a great place to go if you need any freshwater fish, supplies, or plants. Staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. There is plenty to look at, learn from, and choose among. The rows between the aquariums can get a little cramped when the store is crowded, but its well worth it

Fast costumer service, I made my order via email and was surprised they had everything I wanted to order. This was the second time ordering from wetspot both times I bought bichirs and more. I will order again if they have something I want. I live in Utah so the fish were shipped overnight and are in great condition. so far I have not had a DOA.Also they are great eaters and have started growing.

After going here for a few months now I think I can give an honest review. Every time Ive been to wet spot theyve been extremely helpful as I go through the process of learning how to aquascape. The entire staff has been knowledgeable and understanding during the setup and growing phases, now I have a mature and healthy tank with lots of lively fish and shrimp.Theyve done a great job of being adaptive and creative during COVID, and Ive never had any problems getting the items or the help I need. We will NEVER return.. We have spent TONS of money here, and never really complain, but this time was b.s. We waited an hour after arrival to go in due to restrictions from covid, They couldnt let my 4yo use their bathroom, so we ended up having to leave so she wouldnt have a accident...

I called and asked this kid if they had sumps, return pumps coral frags and saltwater fish; He reassured me that they had these things and even had two people who specialized in it. I drove 45 minutes from my home on the cramped and crowded streets of Portland. When I got there I had to stand in an aisle way 15 minutes because the 2 of the 3 employees were conversing with each other, because you couldnt go the wrong way in there aisles. Then when I finally get an employee to talk to me he was very pompous and acted like his time was to important to answer my questions.Then come to find out they are only tropical freshwater fish store.... Not only did I waste my time, and gas I risked my safety during covid. To be treated like I was a burden to these typical pompous trendy Portland kids. Dont waste your time here, because employees seem to be confused on whether what items and livestock they have.

I really like this aquarium store. The staff are all super helpful, they have a great selection, and the prices are good. The only reason I didnt give five stars is because of how they keep bettas.While they do have more space than the average Petco or PetSmart, the conditions are gross. The water always seems dirty to me, and the bettas are always sad, usually just sitting at the bottom of the tank. I have not noticed this issue with any other tanks in the store, and all the rest are in pristine condition, and are not overstocked the way many tanks are at pet stores.

Quality selection of freshwater fish, by far the best in the area. Lots of species that are hard to find elsewhere. Small/bookshelf aquariums and big selection of live plants. Worth coming in to look even if youre not a fishkeeper.

I dont know anything about fish. We gave our son a Betta from here and it recently passed away after three years. We decided to reuse the micro tank (3 gallons) and have a variety of fish.The staff was busy, but very friendly and knowledgeable. I left feeling confident we could get the tank up and running again.I have no idea if the prices were good, but they seemed fair and I certainly didnt feel ripped off at all. The collection looks impressive to me.TLDR: Id recommend them.

I have been unable to find Bolivian Ram cichlids near me. I decided to give this company a try after reading positive reviews from the Aquarium forum on Reddit. Initially I had tried to order Assassin Snails as well, but the sales team indicated that the tank didnt look that healthy and didnt want to risk sending me these snails in case there was a potential problem. This was fantastic to hear as they only want the best quality and health for their livestock and their customers.The order process was easy through email and the sales team was extremely responsive. The prices were great and shipping cost was pretty average. The Rams arrived in good health via Overnight Shipping and have settled in nicely. I would definitely recommend this company for the quality, health, price, and customer service throughout this entire process. If I order fish in the future, I will be a repeat customer!

I could spend hours browsing the rows and rows of wonderful fish.Aside from the selection of fish and aquarium equipment, the Wet Spot is a great educational resource for someone building an aquarium.Asher has been helping build my blackwater 20 long for a couple of months now. His knowledge has made sure that I am successful in my hobby so that I am happy, and more importantly, my fish are healthy. Sometimes that means telling me something I don’t want to hear, but in the long run I’m glad I took his advice.As long as employees like him continue to work there, I’ll be sure to keep coming back.

This is the best aquarium store experience I have had since I started looking around to set up a live plant betta aquarium!! First of all, they really have their Covid-19 precautions down! And they were so knowledgable and HELPFUL! (Thank you, Kirsten!!) The fish look happy and healthy and they have everything you need. Still working through my fishless cycle but I know I will be getting my betta from here.

122 tanks in the fish room and no fish! Started two planted tanks in the house and needed some fish. Joe spent some time with me last monday to answer my questions and was extremely helpful. He advised on the steps they go through to prepare the fish for shipment. I received the shipment on wednesday. The J. Ornatus were almost adult size even though it was labeled as medium 1.50-2.00 inches. They were healthy and color was very good. The reticulated flying foxes were very active once in the tank foraging for food. The box was neatly packed, well insulated and each bag was labelled with the species. Will definitely reorder once I get more tanks.

The young man who helped us was rude and treated is like we were beneath his intelligence. We brought the fish home to our brand new and unused tank. We have had these fish for a little under 2 weeks. They all had the ICH and died. Thanks for selling us diseased fish.

Ive used them as an online shop for years now, Ive given them thousands of dollars of my money over time and their customer service is absolutely intolerable, which I usually overlook because their fish are incredibly high quality, but Ive reached my limit and wont be using them again. Id rather pay a 10% markup at my LFS than to personally order through this shop again. I also handle invoices and payments for my job, however I dont do it with such a lack of customer service as they manage. Emails are frequently ignored, and calling them is a fun game of I hope they answer and not hang up on me. Absolutely ridiculous, theyre only getting two stars because the fish are at least well cared for (if they properly ID the fish theyre sending out anyways, which is a common issue with some of the more expensive ones).

I ordered a shipment of fish recently from them and everything went great, from arranging payment to arranging shipping. I had the fish by 10:15 AM on the expected day of delivery, and they all looked healthy and have continued to thrive in my tank. Im very pleased with the whole experience.

If you walk in and it seems remotely busy, make sure to get your name on the list. They have an amazing selection and great service, but it can take anywhere from 15 to 45mins for them to help you so i recommend getting your name down, that way you can browse while you wait. Seems like every time I come in here there are new employees and no one is there regularly. Maybe there would be better customer service if there were full time employees who weren’t having to probably work multiple jobs just to survive. I wanted a new Blue tang and we found this place on Google! We even traded in our Blue Velvet Damsel who had grown too aggressive in our current tank set up. The staff here were all friendly and helpful and the store is clean and has lots of stuff for all levels of fish enthusiasts.

Really great fish selection, tank selection, and decor. The staff is SO friendly and helpful despite how busy they always are! Always polite. Dylan does a really really good job and is very knowledgeable. He helped my girlfriend pick out a tank and some fish for me while I was away to surprise me. I had her call for me because I’m thinking of upgrading my tank and getting more angel fish and she spoke with him again. Dylan is just the man!!

Ordered my fish online and received great service. My order came overnight the next day before 12pm. The box was well insulated with a heat pack, packed with paper to give support. The bags were doubled, no leakages. The four group of fish that I purchased were in very good condition upon arrival and larger than I expected. All throughout the process of ordering shipping and arriving the staff was in contact and following up with me through emails. Great service and great fish. Their selection of Corydoras is second to none. Probably in the whole region not just in town.Also must commend them on their website. Updates are weekly and will give you a good idea what to expect in store. Ive had several questions via their online chat. Joe has been very helpful in answering my questions online. No other fish store comes even close to Wet Spot when it comes to the web aspect.I havent even seen everything this place has to offer. Im sure Ill be back soon.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Such a HUGE selection of fish, that it is easy to find something you like. Multiple stunning display tanks, and some nice tanks for sale too. Very large amount of plants, aquatic and carnivorous.

My husband and I have been coming to the Wet Spot for a few years and have always had pleasant experience, no issues with fish, plants or other products weve purchased until our most recent, 2 weeks ago. We bought live plants and two of the four died and caused other issues in the tank.Today I went back to return or exchange the plants for other ones. I talked to a young man (new employee at the store), he came across as accusatory and repeated himself a number of times. No resolution, a sorry for not being able to help unless I had a sample of water or pictures and that they dont guarantee the plants. Very disappointed in the customer service and wont be a returning customer.

If you do freshwater aquariums, this is the main place to go. Staff are helpful and prices are fair. Plan to spend some time, its pretty big.
