Tough initial climb but then flattens out to be an easy walk if you start at the mt misery trailhead, connect to the horseshoe trail, and finish with the valley creek trail (all together forms a loop just under 3 miles long). Lots of families and dogs on the trail. Just watch your step as there is some uneven footing, especially with the fallen leaves and hidden rocks of autumn.
Great hiking trail. Slightly steep hill to set the pace. Enjoyable for hiking Solo or group. Lots of opportunities for photo ops.
I can be found hiking this trail at least once almost every weekend. Whats really unique about the hill on this side of Valley Creek is hiking it can be as easy or hard as you care to make it. It can go from almost completely flat along the creek to one if not the steepest trails in VF Park. The upper trail can get a bit tricky. Make sure you take the right fork after you pass Wolfinger (large pile of arranged rocks) if you are headed North on the trail (which you would have entered from either Yellow Springs Road or ascended Wolfinger). Going left will take you out of the park onto private property. What I really enjoy is you are walking on the same ground once occupied by the original patriots. These were the first Americans, many who died here to secure freedom for our Nation. If that doesnt make you proud to be an American, I dont know. The other neat feature is this land was once privately owned until Charles E. Hires transferred ownership to Pennsylvania. It worth researching the history of this area, the industries, The days of Gen. Benjamin Franklin Fisher a Civil War hero. The groups I hike with here always have fun and stay safe. The trails are maintained not only by the Park Service. A couple of private groups go to great lengths and volunteer their time and money to ensure these trails are safe and fun. I hike there all 4 seasons without fail. Heavy rain, deep snow or ice are the only reason not to go. The trees do a bang up job of blocking the wind on those really breezy days.
Nice trail. Suggest parking at the Knox Quarters parking. It has a significant uphill and downhill at the beginning and end. It is wide and easy to follow. At the park end is blazed with white blazes and it switched to being blazed with yellow on the Washington Headquarters end. It is rocky so ankle support can help.
Great hiking trail.
Calm and always enjoyable. Very popular among all ages.
Excellent trail.
Fun hike, good little loop to come down around the creek
A good hike.. nice open trees
One of my favorite trails.
If you like to sightsee and enjoy the shade in the woods come out. Drink water, excercise and just walk. History is everywhere and part of Valley Forge. Make it your place to see.
A nice, challenging uphill hike in parts with some interesting stone building ruins along the way.
Favorite trail in the park.
Great trail. Went up the mountain, stopped in Washingtons headquarters, and went back along the creek. Nice woodsy escape. I will say that its popular on a nice day, so not a great place to be alone with nature, but I guess thats life in the suburbs.
Great trail for walking or jogging. Some serious hills if thats what you are looking for.
Great area for hiking, trail run, biking, etc... I parked out by the covered bridge and then ran half way down the creek trail and ran up the face of misery. All in the shade.
Im here every AM. Its not a difficult hike but it is rocky. When its dark one fork is hard to notice. I highly recommend it its fantastic.
This place is spiritual.
Always love to hike Mount Misery, get some great photos and it is a great hike
The mountain is beautiful. There are different trails with different levels of difficulty.
Fun small hike with a little bit of elevation change
