If you come during the summer, wear heavy mosquito repellent. This place is GORGEOUS in the fall. Trails feature cute field trip elements and signs for kids.

Great trail! I had my granddaughter and my 12 year old chihuahua it was great we walked and read all about the creatures & animals that inhabit this park, others like us practiced safe distance procedures, walked along the river one of the best parks Ive visited so far. Very clean... only one thing was disturbing was a sign that said there were a few robberies people breaking into cars.

Great place to stroll around outdoors on a warm october day. I actually used to volunteer there and weed the gardens and clearly should again because they let it go too far. Let the county know!

It has well marked trails. Several of them it was really mosquito infested when we went. Not really what we look for Im a park but we had never been their so we had to check it out. The trails are flat some are paved no rock formations or anything to climbI like the other side better the lock 60 sideSo its good if you are looking for easy flat boring trails through the woods

Its nice but there are a couple major problems. Theres tons of garbage in the canal along the river trail. The borough of Phoenixville should take responsibility for this problem and clean it up. Also, theres often obnoxious jet ski and motorboat noise coming from the river as its not a no-wake zone like it should be. It seems like a stretch to call something a sanctuary when bird calls are loudly drowned out by jet skis and water skiing boats racing back and forth on the river. A lot of these watercraft belch smoke which permeates the sanctuary as well. On warm summer weekends the smells and sounds are that of a boat race, not a sanctuary.

This wildlife sanctuary is operated by the county and it is open to the public. The paved parking lot provides plenty of spaces. Unfortunately when I was there the rain prevented me fro exploring all the trails. I think the rain put a damper on any wildlife making an appearance that day. I would come back again if I am in the area. It is a long drive from home. The trails are marked making them very interesting subjects to explore. Bring the kids. Theyll love it!

Black Rock is a lovely place to go for a walk, and despite being a reclaimed site of formal industrial pollution it is surprisingly idyllic and charming. There are many trails but the best is a family nature trail with many interactive displays teaching children (and adults) about habitat, wetlands, animals and watersheds. Its just under a mile as a loop and is wide and paved, very kid friendly. If you venture further afield trails that are less travelled and maintained lead to the Phoenixville boat launch on the Schuylkill. My dog loved it here.

Wonderful park with a nice paved hiking loop. Its a wonderful place to see blue herons, mallard ducks, and painted turtles. The best part about it though is the micro lending library where you can take a book to borrow, or take a book and leave a book.

This was a beautiful park. Very clean. There is a paved interpretive trail. A couple of places for catch & release fishing. But the best part is the meadow path, a grassy path that grows out if black mud & dirt. It follows the Scuykill & along to the Black Rock Dam with a beautiful view.

I needed a place to take the niece and nephew while I was watching them for the day. This was the perfect place! I was told that adults are not meant to ride bikes there, but it was a good safe place for a kid new to bike riding with even pavement on the path and no cars. We took the shorter path that was about a mile, but there were plenty of stops along the way to interact with nature. It was a hot day, but most of the trail is under the tree canopy. It was great to see the kids outside enjoying nature! Theres even a free little library to exchange books. I could see it being a fun weekly adventure to take kids if you live nearby. Also all the dogs we ran into were on leashes, which I highly approve of, especially not knowing how they are going to act around you or the kids.

Terrific spot for a stroll in a natural setting that is easy to reach. The walk is a circuit so you can start in either direction and return to the entrance after 20 or 30 minutes of leisurely walking. There are informative installations on a variety of topics such as the local geology, bird life, ecology and watersheds. Easy enough walk for kids to do, too.

My wife and I have been to the sanctuary on quite a few occasions and I would describe our experience as fairly average. It is certainly nice to have a patch of green closeby and we appreciate that. It also offers some opportunities for bird watching (the telescopes help) and thats nice. On the other hand, the trail is quite short and in order to get a decent walk, we might end up walking around the trail about three or four times, which feels less than ideal. Parking is free and quite convenient at the trail head and we have never head an issue with parking. So all in all, if one is in the area, it is a nice patch of green to have but it also isnt something special enough to draw someone from say 10 miles away.

The view from the trailer/boat hitch ramp (into the Schuylkill River,) was pretty neat, the general area can use some volunteer work as the weather begins to warm (of course, I am including myself in said volunteer work...will look into the options.)Trekking through the woods was a good time, I plan on wearing an bright-orange cap next trip due to hunting.I believe the trail(s) I wandered were not the most commonly traveled paths...so, looking at the trail map on my phone would of been the smart thing of me to do before I arrived.I will post some images below when I get the chance!

This is a nice small park nestled in a loop of the Schuylkill River and centered on a small lake. The trails are well maintained and smooth enough to push a stroller on. There are many activity spots for younger children to teach them about the outdoor wildlife that inhabits this area. Depending on season they can see numerous birds, turtles and lizards from the trail. I enjoy bringing my daughter here as it is much quieter than some of the other local parks.

Located just outside of phoenixville, pa on rt 113. Nice park with a large Porta pottie, info kiosk, and several picnic tables at the parking lot. It also has a spigot for filling jugs, etc... with water. Download a map before going as there wasnt any when I visited. Initially, the trails arent well marked for the first timer but easy enough to get around if you just keep a basic sense of direction. The most traveled trail (interactive) is paved with a lot of very neat lil stops. Bring bug spray because theres a large natural pond that the one trail loops around and a lot of the sanctuary is wetlands. All-in-all, pack a lunch grab the dog(had my k9 with me) or the kids and spend a CPL hrs checking out the place. Nice hike for all.
