This entire historic district appears to be a project that was begun with the best of intentions bit then abandoned. The self tour maps are faded and unreadable, most of the businesses were empty and clearly had not been open for some time and this was true on a beautiful mid-June, Friday afternoon. We has driven here hoping to find layers of history and found cobblestone streets that were the high point of the district.
This is the ice cream shop it was great and so welcoming I recommend this place for kids or just couples old and young
The whole building is not open yet. Was told by end of year the exhibit 400 Years in the Making will be opened. Got lots of pamphlets and maps. Parking is a little tight but the surrounding historic downtown is worth the trip
It was really cool, but a disappointment because its not getting the funding it needs to operate properly. The building is in disrepair and we were unable to tour it. I learned quite a bit of the importance of Petersburg and the role it played in the Civil War. Hopefully, the next time Im up that way it will have gotten its restoration.
Neat to see the old buildings but not much open. Good food & nice people but there were many seemingly abandoned businesses. Not happy about vagrants begging for money. Made me uncomfortable. Seems like not much goes on here. Its a shame because the old buildings are beautiful. I bet it was wonderful back in its prime. Longstreet restaurant was delicious. Would love to go back for another lunch!
Old Town Historic District is a wonderful place to visit. Many old buildings with tremendous architectural flavor allows one to imagine history during those years. As the economic development continues to churn in many cities in Virginia, it is wonderful this part of Petersburg is being revitalized. The Croaker Spot is a high end restaurant serving scrumptious seafood. This restaurant was well worth the trip.
Loved the area. Great area if u are a history buff. Alot of small, intimate shops/boutiques. And great places to eat. Area is a great hidden gem in Petersburg.
Nice little quant old town , good dining, friendly people and cute little antique/thrift shops. It would be nice if they fixed the abandoned buildings tho, its a shame theyre just going to waist.
Great place to walk and take in the sights and also support small local shops
Petersburgs Preservation Task Force is doing a fantastic job getting this museum back up and running.
If you havent spent time down here, do so. lots of great eating/drinking and shopping
Excellent selection
Great up and coming area, tons of great restaurants and clean.
Saucys BBQ one of the best places to eat on earth. And of course El Mundos is always amazing. All good spots around town. Wish brickhouse was a 24/7/365 kinda place
Still under construction, when finished will be worth a visit. Chronicles the Civil War from the Confederate perspective with maps, pictures, and artifacts.
