When you see all your friends in one place youre at the Alaska State Fair. The games and exhibits are always fun. The livestock were here last year unless something tragic happen, so its nice to see them return. The vendors are 95% the same and located in the same spots, so not that different.I think the special events are what people really want to see. The concerts are loud, but if you dont want to stand then you really need to buy ticket for a seat.Bring the TUMS that way you can eat all the junk you want.

Being a former life long Phoenician I was not sure what to expect. Was this different than Fairs in the lower 48? Absolutely, which is what made it so fun for our family. If you are going looking for the latest and greatest thrill rides you will most likely be disappointed as the rides are a bit dated which makes sense when you consider that the ride operators can’t exactly tour a lot of places and also probably have to store the rides all winter since it wouldn’t make any sense to transport them to the lower 48 to use during the winter due to the cost. That being said, the rides were a blast for our 6 and 4 year old and we had a blast going on them with them. The agriculture and livestock sections were much better than I was used to in Arizona. Where else can you go and see a near ~1500lbs pumpkin or other monster vegetables? It was great seeing youth involved in and showing off their learning with 4H and other like activities.Like any fair there was a lot of phenomenal food options however this was a bit hit or miss. If it looks good or there is a line then it’s probably not going to disappoint. We purchased the $100 ticket pack which included $20 in food tickets however we learned, after the fact, that these were only good at the food vendors near the rides. The food from these vendors wasn’t bad however when everything else looks so much more appealing this was kind of a let down.If going with family, and you are able to be flexible, I would suggest going during the week early in the day and on a day where there is a unlimited ride wristband (or buddy day) to save money and have a less crowded experience.

My wife loves state fairs so we had to make this stop while we were visiting Anchorage and Alaska on a cruise. We rented a car and drove out and it was well worth the time. The drive was beautiful and the fair was great. We stayed most of the day, enjoyed all of the typical fair food and looked at all of the exhibits. Had to buy some t-shirts and other items available only at fairs (?). Loved all of the 4H exhibits and kids!!!

Theres plenty to see every day. Today we watched the dog performers and shopped the vendors. My niece showed me her 4H displays and ribbons for her crafts wins. My uncle and I walked to the fair from his house a mile away which was good exercise. I was impressed by the clear explanation on the No Dogs Allowed sign. People need the law explained to them because dogs are animals - not children. A certified trained physical-support dog is legal. Emotional support dogs are illegal at the fair - they are untrained and go bonkers when they see any other dogs. This makes the work of a genuinely trained dog almost impossible because it has to guard its handler instead of supporting him. Also, working dogs dont socialize. I saw a man with his dog try to approach the dog performers after their show in order to greet them. This is proof of an untrained dog. Someone with a trained dog would never risk that. I dont know how he got into the fair. His dog had no vest. We need more signs like that, tho. Educate the public.

I hate large groups of people. HOWEVER, the pony ride, featuring Lightning the Pony, gets 5 stars ().Lightning the Pony, featured in my image below, demonstrates a mastery of pony-ride fundamentals and provides a professional yet thrilling experience for young riders and old spectators alike. The cost of Lighting the Ponys little person pony ride is only $10, which is nothing compared to the excellence in aesthetic beauty and sheer entertainment that you and your family will experience. A Lightning the Pony ride value is easily worth millions. As long as Lightning the Pony keeps returning to the Alaska State Fair, so will my family and I. If I could give Lightning 14 stars I would.

Biggest fair in the State of Alaska located 50 miles or so from Anchorage in Palmer Alaska. Fun amusement rides and lots of fair food throughout the grounds. Very hard to decide which booth has my favorite food. Wandering minstrels and lots of booths to find new treasures or learn new skills. Hundreds and hundreds of entries in exhibitions. The enormous vegetables entered in competition each year just seem to get bigger and bigger. The giant vegetables are donated to the bears, musk ox and moose in the Wildlife farm in Turnagain. The carrots zucchinis and other vegetables are donated to local food charities to make soup.

This was my first time to Alaska and the State Fair. Scenery is beautiful and people are great. But the State Fair needs to pony up. To many people for the infrastructure!I extended my visit after learning Lindsey Stirling was playing there. Wonderful that they were sold out of reserved seats so I bought Lawn Seating, new experience for me. We questioned, ourselves if chairs were allowed and tried to find info on their website. Didnt find anything so we brought some, just in case. FYI, they are not allowed. Cool - we sat on the lawn. When the intro came for Lindsey - everyone stood - and never sat down!! Could we see, no! Lindsey Stirling is amazing and we could only see her between a few heads!Sharing because we were naive and what to help. Get reserved seating. This picture was taken way over my head.

My daughter and I went yesterday (28th) on Buddy Day with the baby (14 mo) and it was great! I dont usually go for the food as it is pretty overpriced but since we had the baby, well I wanted her to have fun and taste new things that she doesnt usually get! So we had the crab cakes with covered fries and later on the elephant ears. All of it was great. The photographer was great at her job and got a smile out of this baby that is awesome! All in all, we saw the animals and wandered around since the baby cant really ride on things but it was fun, lots to see! My only complaint at all is the way you have to make a special stop at Holiday to get a buddy day ticket to go. I rarely go to Holiday and was in a rush yesterday only to go there and find out that instead of just lying on the counter as they have before that now one must stand in line and wait. I didnt much care for that since I wasnt buying anything. Not a big deal but a pain in the ass a bit...
