Way too many tents, trash piles. I can see some ppl enjoying the park, but I didn’t feel comfortable here with my dogs. Looks like the courts are popular, but the open in fenced grassy areas are NOT a dog run.

Nothing but pure park right on the outer fringes of Downtown Oakland, CA. Thanks in part to the advocacy for and legislation passed by the councils for The homeless, this is one park where you can stroll through, sit in, volley a couple of sets with friends or just enjoy.the shade of old growth oaks, pines or eucalyptus trees and not feel as if you are an intrusive party crasher walking through a neighborhood campground. Thanks Mayor Schaff for the actions past and future. But you effed up by losing our Warriors and Raiders franchises. You may not be a sports fan but your constituency is and if you dont fix the problem on Wood St and get that as beautiful as the other camps I will spearhead the vote against you..

Mosswood Park Oakland CaliforniaMr bloger advocatefor a good time at a great Park.OAKLAND has many great parks and mosswood Park is on that listmosswood is a public park in a private setting theres the mosswood house in the center of the park is an attractive building set in period timethe way a home would look it brings you back it would be a nice place to perform a wedding have a birthday party or just a good family gathering even on the holidays to rent for a family gathering it has that home feeling Mr and Mrs Mosswood invite you into their home and then share their lovely public garden with you.their gardenwith baseball diamonds amphitheater ample parking and large spaces for all basketball and baseball games happen every day.plenty of room to play soccer or tag with the kids the playground is an excellent place for those four to seven year olds. Lots of shady and theres plenty of people watching.home to some of our locals and its just a neighborhood park to others. But they all mix well with convenient stores and grocery stores nearby to pick up a quick picnic or a snack this is a bike friendly Park and a dog friendly Park the dog run .k is tucked in the back youll find it just follow your dog mosswood also features some big main events every year concerts 3-day festivals and the chest tournament of the year and the backgammon tournaments iit is a perfect place to try your hand at hanging a hammock and trying to get some rest for the day or you can do like some of the younger people and hang a tightrope from tree to tree and practice walking on a tightrope it seems to be the newest thing at mosswood after the renovation you can rent out the main house as if its your own for use for the day and I hear mosswood is going to add some food vendors within the park to catch the lunch crowd from the hospitals and to feed the lunchtime Park enthusiast these might be kiosks or a permanent structure but I hear that the parks are now going to start making their own revenue but some supporting the community that theyre in food and convenience items right in a park then a place like that would be perfectsfood vendors and necessary conveniences all in one place not having to leave the park not even having to go across the street staying within the park boundaries and creating a revenue for your own community. Pay pet grooming stations and pay propane barbecue pits will enhance the look of the parka great place for weddings and birthday parties picnic areas you need to get there early to reserve for holidays or any other special occasion so open your imagination and have a party and make mosswood your temporary Oasis. Mr blogger here I hope you enjoy the new mosswood park thats coming just as much as we enjoyed the old mosswood parkMr bloger advocate for people and the parks that they love

A pleasent, green grass park with a lot of trees. Has tables.for picnicing, basketball court and softball diamond. There is also an amphitheater that has occasional events. Currently has homeless people in residence along the Broadway boundary, but they dont seem to bother anyone and just want to be left alone. Sometimes the end point for activism began at Frank Ogawa Plaza. Park is closed after dark. Poorly lit, you probably dont want to walk through it at night.

The park is located about 15 minutes from the MacArthur BART stop and has lots of old growth trees. There are some people without homes that camp out in the park, but I never have felt uncomfortable personally with the homeless sleeping there. They have a playground and a basketball course there, plus a good location to pick up a Ford GoBike if you are needing to park one or get one for a quicker commute.

Great multi-use park for sure. Decent location, picnic areas, tennis courts (in need of renovation), basketball courts heavily used, playground, dog walking, lots of green space/lawn areas but grass needs to be mowed, bathrooms need to be rebuilt (after a fire apparently). If you live in the neighborhood, or use frequently in general, contact Oakland Parks & Rec to tell them what you want or need!

It used to be a nice park. The homeless took over years ago. They would set fires with gasoline next to the recreation center to keep warm and finally succeeded in burning the building to the ground. The basketball court is still there and a playground. From what I saw the dog park, tennis courts and grass were full of tents belonging to the homeless. The city is trying to rebuild but it is a far cry from what it used to be.

Fortunately, the tent city on the East edge of the park was recently removed. The childrens playground is very good. The main area has a rubber surface, child swings, climbing structures and slides. Many walkers and riding toys have been donated to the park and are free for all to use.

I looveee mosswood and its recreation center. Ive watched it change and grow over the yrs. There is only 1 change i hate. After Berkley Ca. Kicked all the homeless ppl from peoples park, most of them immediately migrated to the city of Oakland and swarmed mosswood park. Mosswood still is the place to be but just stay away from the side of the park thats on Broadway. Because thats where tent city is.

This was my neighborhood park when I grew up. I can remember the giant airplanes that we used to play on in the front of the park. THEY still have the world-class basketball courts that were featured in many video games back in the day. You want to get some serious ballin on?Try and hang with these brothers. They have a baseball field, tennis courts, and Rec Center. Mosswood Park still has it going on with lots of Rallys and festivals still held there today. Mosswood is my hometown and neighborhood Park....since 1961Sadly, though.... theres a lot of people encamped on Broadway.People should be arrested for vagrancy and health safety issues and then directed/ordered to seek help thats definitely available via Social Services.People can do better. Many are just lollygagging or just being criminally negligent to their self.Which is abuse, Self-abuse.

Surprised by all of the negative commentary, have been coming here for years. went here with my little kiddo (under 1) and there’s a great space with toys, swings to play on, etc. there is homelessness because folks don’t have a place to go, but that is the reality created by having too many intolerant newcomers & city politicians. the park is walking distance to a lot of food, only downside is that the rec center with the bathroom burned down & hasn’t been replaced.

I sometimes visit while my Husband & Son shoot around at the basketball court...a peaceful & respectful place to ball in my opinion. If Im not mistaken, there are basketball games on Fridays at 6 pm.I would like to give 5 stars or above, but the play site for the older kids has sand. I have to constantly tell my kids NOT to play in the sand because its definitely full of germs...Im big on cleanliness with my kids.I love the fact that not only is the baby/toddler playground is padded, but it has a gate. I think that all play sites should be sand free.In my opinion, Mosswood is & has been a upstanding park for years. My only concern is that sand!

This has been my neighborhood park for 20 years. There is a baseball diamond, tennis courts, two sets of swings and slides for two age groups, basket ball court and community gardens. This is a venue for events, has an outdoor theatre and hosts sport classes. There is an old Victorian and a community Center. Some of the trees are very old and large. It has been great for my two boys growing up except for two things. The minor problem is the homeless encampment. The major problem is a set of dog owners for whom the two dog runs are not enough so the annex the whole park.Eventually many parents abandoned the park because they did not want their kids competing with a large dog for a frisbee or playing in sand that was just used by a dog to deficate.

I love this park and it has a whole lot to offer but the homeless population that occupied the dog park in the back left the lot littered with dirty needles and, though the city claims to have kicked everyone out permanently due to the opening of the school there this semester, people are moving their tents right back in. I dont think that park goers and neighbors would have nearly as big an issue with the homeless residents if they cleaned up their trash
