Influential Protest ArtThe flag went on display on the facade of Jack Shainman Gallery in New York during a 2016 exhibition organized by For Freedoms, the artist-run political action group founded by Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman. The piece became a source of national controversy when it remained on view above the street after a deadly sniper attack on police officers in Dallas, Texas, sparking a wave of threats to the gallery from people who felt that the work encouraged violence against police. Finally, the gallery removed the flag and displayed it indoors following pressure from the building owner.

The Jack Shainman Gallery (JSG) represents contemporary artists with diverse backgrounds who use their talent to set forth relevant subject matters in their art. The Curator does a wonderful job in exhibiting works of art in JSGs space. The employees are courteous and professional.JSG is located in the Chelsea selection of New York City near one of the entries to the HighLine. Walking distance to restaurants and subway lines C and E (23rd St stop) and subway line A (14th St. stop).Toyin Ojih Odutola s (her show has ended at JSG) artworks attached to this review.

In the heart of Chelsea this gallery shines. Spacious rooms provide a great environment to showcase the amazing work they are known for exhibiting. It also draws a great crowd of the cool kids in the art scene.

Incredible gallery and staff that encourage diversity in art and a discussion of the difficult subjects in the world. Always beautifully curated and always a welcoming space.

Racist, hateful gallery that makes sweeping, unreasonable assumptions about law enforcement. As far left as the pendulum swings, this crunchball headquarters of white guilt us a shame upon the fabric of decency and open dialogue. The First Amendment is the First Amendment; there should be no limits, or any Government curtailment of that right. But as decent citizens and normal human beings, jumping on the hate bandwagon to score hipster points is an embarrassment to civilized society, and the miscreants that run this trash receptacle should walk just one night in the shoes of any ghetto cop in America. They wouldnt make it- Trust me.

Great spaces (now three, including the newly opened School, in Kinderhook, NY). Great artists (Hank Willis Thomas, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Toyin Odutola, to name a few of my favorites. Great staff. Cant say enough greats or give it enough stars! You should visit. Visit often.

This gallery supports anti-cop movements and seeks to destroy relations instead of bringing people together.
