The service was great! The beer was cold and the server pointed out it was cheaper to get a 24oz beer on happy hour. I appreciate that. The band Kim Carson and the Real Deal were really good.

Been there 3 times and enjoy the bar and the Blues live performances. 1st time there in 2013, Al Carson, a well known New Orleans blues singer was performing and graced his audience with charm and fun along with his wonderful singing voice. In 2016 I went to the Funky Pirate and Al was not performing because of health reasons. Al was not performing this night in 2018. Bartender said Al was returning to perform 10/13/18 for the first time in 3 years and he has returned to good health. I was glad to hear that others will enjoy good times with Al Carson again. Plan to return to New Orleans to see Al play at the Funky Pirate. New Orleans is a very special place with music culture history and fabulous food.

Review №11

Fun atmosphere and the place was quiet during the day but they still had a good band playing some great classic blues covers. I had a hand grenade, their famous souvenir drink, and it was unfortunately far too sweet for me but the rest of the experience was good. Id come back here again, but would definitely avoid the hand grenade.

Big Al Carson is the only reason to visit this place. The drinks arent strong and its pretty much a tourist trap, along with all the other tropical isle bars and bayou club. Lets have a big people drink, children

On May 4 during the Kentucky Derby eight of us came into the Funky Pirate and ordered $100 plus of booze. We asked Shane the bartender to please put in the Kentucky Derby on the big screen. (News was on). He refused. Was nasty rude and unprofessional. I was very nice in my request, yet he responded as a jerk. NOT OKMany places on Bourbon Street. We left and took our money somewhere else. HORRIBLE SERVICE AND OVERPRICED DRINKS

Big Al Carson. Glad I got to see him once again. I introduced my kids to the Blues listening through the window while standing on Bourbon street. Great place. You know they have a small courtyard. It needs to be straightened a little btw, but a nice place to grab a smoke. Favorite place on Bourbon street.

This was our 1st visit to NOLA. We just happened to be walking down Bourbon and heard the live music, blues, and decided to pop in. It was exactly what we were looking for in a trip to New Orleans! Drinks were great and the music (Big Al!!) was even better! We will definitely go back.

Loved this place years ago but was disappointed with my recent visit. One bartender barely cared if we were there and the other did not even look our way as he was busy doing shots and getting his picture taken with a group of young girls. It used to be a blues bar but the band while ok was not really a blues band

Do you really need to know more? There was a totally awesome blues band playing, and Im sipping on some whiskey. They let smoking go on in here, but, no cigars. I dont smoke, but, I will deal with a few cigarettes if there are fans blowing or a breeze. The staff here were very nice. Prices were slightly high. But, the blues band was amazing! They rotate bands out every few hours I think. We sat for one set, and I wanted to get on stage and play some harp with this guy. But, Im probably only good enough to make up one song. Maybe. Okay, sit back down.Visited June 2014

Made my Mardi Gras!!!!!! Kae brings life to this place!!!!!!!! Came here with family and friends during Mardi Gras and I cant say enough good things about the Superwoman behind the bar! The bar was just another bar on Bourbon street nothing very different or extra special about it that is until we met Kae. She was funny and joked around with us and actually paid attention and was courteous even though we didnt quite know what we wanted which is a rarity on Bourbon street. Of course we all ended up with Hand Grenades. We literally stayed until the place closed. If youre looking for a great time with an amazing bartender go see Kae!

I had a great time here on a recent trip to NOLA. We were looking to hear some live music and swung by based on other reviews and a desire to stay in the quarter that night. Big Al was fantastic and we couldnt have been happier with our choice. So many people are looking for the BEST jazz/blues/brass in New Orleans. Stop it. Just go and have fun. The Funky Pirate has no cover and a very reasonable one (cheap) drink per set minimum. I only wish their $2 in between sets shot special had been Fireball instead of Jäger. Otherwise it was a perfect choice.
