A gem of a museum for those who love all things connected to the sea.
I had so much fun. This is one of the best tours I ever witnessed. Christina the lighthouse tour guode was so friendly and knowledgable. All of the staff were friendly and the best hosts.I going back with my whole family this Summer.
Less of a museum and more just a motley collection of artifacts with no accompanying info. Many of the rooms are closed off by chairs. Wandered in after seeing no front desk and got snapped at for not paying admission.
Not all that much to look at. Some of the stories the guide told were quite interesting.
What a treasure to visit the longest continuously operating Customs House in the country. There are so many amazing artifacts to explore here. Allow extra time to take the tour and hear the true story of the Amistad on the second floor. For a special treat, ask to see the reading room in the basement and be ready to marvel at the architecture.
Unique items with some history unique to the local region. Wish I had more time.

This places encompasses all that new London once was. Situated in an amazing Robert mills federal style arched brick three story building in close proximity to the Thames river, the New London custom house is headquarters for the new London maritime society who also owns, three of the areas coolest light houses. Ledge light, race rock, and new London harbor light. This is a must see if you are in new London and love history or the ocean. There is no where else like this in new London.
What a wonderful little museum! Found it by accident. Got a personal tour, complete with stories of the history of the building, regional lighthouses, the whaling industry, and the true story of the Amistad. Highly recommend this little gem. Lots of local restaurants nearby as well.
Loved going there! Very informative guide and doesnt mind questions! Very open to suggestions and getting information on Ellery Thompson!
Wonderful history here! This is the oldest operating Customs house in the US!
The small fee for entry is more than worth the wealth of knowledge gained. Bill gave a tour and told us the history in each area. What a wonderful place!
