This is in New Castle, DE and there is more to enjoy than the Read House. Our tour guide was fantastic, and it was a nice trip for my mom and I. Its was a wonderful place to learn of the history of that time, and how things were different. Coming to this quaint town is really a step back in time, with the period houses, cobblestone streets, and graves dating back to the 1700s. It is truly a beautiful historic town, and has views of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. There are other buildings you can tour, and small shops. I plan to go back in the fall to get a closer look, and to do the audio tour. If you love history, quiet, laid back places, this is a great place for couples or older children. The townspeople are friendly, the neighborhood safe, many people were walking their dogs-their was even a drinking fountain for them by the courthouse. Such a lovely place for a day trip.

Stunning example of a garden from the early 19th century. Views of the river add to the beauty. I cant wait for the house museum to open up!

Its a very nice and well maintained garden. Reminds me of the movie Secret Garden.Though the gentlemen who lives across the street did come to harass my group because we were sitting in the car talking. He wasnt very friendly at all.

Neat place to visit. Wish the tour guide knew more but we did learn some neat things! Also, military friendly!! Participates in the Blue Star program and free to military and family until Labor Day!!

The house tour gave a lot of insight into life in the 1700 and 1800s.My one complaint is that the decor seemed jumbled- we kept jumping between different time periods. Some of the rooms were from the 1800s, some from the 1900s and there was also a special exhibition that had nothing to do with the house.
