I cannot comment on the quality of exhibits or courses taught at the Hoyt; however, my review is based on the business practices, communication and refund practices. I signed up for a course with my spouse to begin mid September 2020 and immediately paid via credit card ($260 total) and the Hoyt immediately charged my credit card. Two weeks ago, someone from the Hoyt called me to advise they cancelled that course because the instructor was uncomfortable due to COVID-19. I waited two weeks for a check, per the instructions I received as they supposedly could not refund via credit card. After no response, I emailed the Hoyt through their website about the status of the refund. Three days later, still no response. I called and was informed it takes the lady awhile to process refund checks. The lack of communication and inability to timely process refunds is inexcusable. Perhaps the Hoyt should consider communicating to course purchased that refunds can only be issued by a delayed check issuing process. This was my first and likely last experience dealing with the Hoyt - assuming that my refund checks do actually arrive. Otherwise, I intend to take further action.
The Hoyt LOVES kids. They offer FREE after school arts, FREE kids art festival and FREE crafts at community festivals and gatherings. They also host summer camps, work shops and classes for kids. They also offer classes and workshops for teens and adults too. My child absolutely loves the Hoyt and participates in the after school program, their festival and summer camp. Ive enjoyed it since I was child as theyve been inspiring children for decades. The communitys support is lacking to say the least though, so I encourage you to stop by the Hoyt, browse their gift shop or sign up for a class! There is so much more to the Hoyt but its truly worth it to see for yourself.
They offer many classes on Art and Literature, poetry and much more...
It is such a beautiful place and a piece of history. What I love is their love of the arts and their outreach to the community. I remember attending different performances and classes as a child and they are experiences that I still hold to this day. I also had the opportunity to attend my cousin Bryan Pezzones improvisational piano concert Freedom Series, and again, a moment that I will always treasure.
Incredible architecture - and incredible support for the arts. A wonderfully enriching environment with something for any age or skill level.
Beautiful place, great organization.
Love the classes they offer. Have well know instructors.
Amazing place
I went to the Hoyt to attend a talk that was being presented, but also had time to look around at some of the exhibits. The houses are just beautiful. The original woodwork is amazing. Featured exhibits change throughout the year. The one I was present for has a really neat steampunk feel. The gift shop is small, but has a few nice local products and snacks. Even the bathroom is original and was very interesting. There is a program run through the Hoyt for children to attend art classes, which I think is a great opportunity, especially with some schools cutting out art. The Hoyt is worth a visit!
I say its ok because Ive never been there but this guide thing keeps aking me to review it.
They got it all
A place to learn, share, contribute. If you have something to share, you can teach a class. I did. Bread baking .
A beautiful place the buildings are so well kept up. Its nice to see such beautiful buildings being kept up so well.
Art. Kids stuff. Adult stuff. At least when Im there I cant hear my neighbors yelling for their elderly dog in the backyard at all hours of the night. I love those neighbors, but I wish their dog would just die already!
I really love it. I would recommend it to everyone to go there for arts and crafts.
The Hoyt never does anything half cracked. They have a legacy of excellence and they uphold that with each event they do. Their kids programs are phenomenal. The educators are kind, patient, and do age appropriate activities, and they never fail to show the community how great the arts are.
We totally enjoyed the spring open house. We had never toured the house. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The sample class in clay was great!
I love this place! They have such cute kids clubs and summer camps here. My kids love going and making different types of art
Tremendous place. A hidden jem, topped off by my cousins beautiful music. Bryan Pezzone
Fine art to view and fairly inexpensive classes to learn ceramics, photography and such.
