My 1st time at the museum. I have wanting to go since we moved here in February. Today I went with my 11 year old and my oldest daughter Joanna whis 27. We finally got to see the pictures if Womans Suffrage. It was great we got to dress up in costumes. But also very peaceful. Great way to start the day!

Very safe visit with my 7 1/2 year old grandson Thursday. Arrows show you the best way to see everything. I think they should leave them always. They really helped us see every room. We both thoroughly enjoyed the Anni Albers exhibit.**Please add more boy things in the gift shop. My grandson noticed all the girl stuff. Hes right. The art set selection is for everyone but we have much of that. Boys shop also!

This museum offers a different experience than the Wadsworth. Smaller than the Yale Gallery of Art, the NBMAA is a much more intimate layout making you feel like you can linger a little longer with each work of art. You can take no-flash photos. Their focus on American artists is an education in itself. I really enjoy how they rotate exhibits with local Connecticut artists. Their Thomas Hart Benton room is a special treat, as is a small Jackson Pollack painting of Menemsha Harbor on Martha’s Vineyard. If you teach, bring your students here on a field trip. The education staff does a really nice job and they have a room on the lower level where you can also do a hands-on activity. If you’re a parent, the museum always has fun days for the kids as on first Saturdays of the month which are free to the public. Can’t make the first Saturday? Check your local library for an NBMAA free pass, good for up to 4 people. Also, you can get in for free if you have a Bank of America card. A membership to the museum is also good for admission to other museums across the state. NBMAA has parking on the street and a lot on the side of the building with easy handicap access. The café is a nice place to have a bite or head over to “Little Poland” and eat at Capitol Lunch or Staropolska.

I have seen commercials for this museum on TV for a while. On the commericals, the place seemed really small to me. It never seemed like it would be worth the trip, but it was actually much bigger than I had expected. It was a great afternoon with the kids. They are sculptures that surround the building which made for a nice walk before going inside. Most of the art on the inside are paintings, of course. The have a wide variety of art from various time periods and styles. Im not a huge art buff, but there are paintings there by several artists that are household names. And the price was right. The tickets for my 8 and 12 year olds were both free and my ticket was only $15. A really nice afternoon family outing at a great price.

An unexpected find. An excellent small museum in a former wealthy industrial community. The collection covers American and European art especially well.I attended the opening day of an annual juried art show of contemporary local artists. The level of technical skills was top flight and the originality of most was high level. Stimulating afternoon. Sorry I missed the Georgia OKeefe exhibit by a few weeks.

This is both a great museum and a local gem. Ive been coming here since grade school field trips and I regularly take my family. Theres a few rooms of Hudson River School paintings that are simply lovely. The top floor changes from time to time but often has great modern art. The museum has a great collection and cycles it often enough to reward repeat visits. The people who work there are nice, and clearly like working in a cool museum. They also have a great education department and offer art classes. Ive taken my kids and its made for a great family experience. Go if you can; its a wonderful place.
