Gorgeous Victorian mansions and buildings restored and operated as a series of museums from the era of Muskegons founding timber barons. Terrific tour included access to nearby firehouse and homes. Highly recommend a couple hours to visit and then explore downtown on foot

We stayed an extra day in Muskegon just so we could tour these wonderful Queen Anne style mansions. Our tour guide, Alecia, was very knowledgeable about the homes histories and about the Hackley and Hume families. She truly made the homes come alive for us. Thanks, Alecia! You wont want to miss this tour.

$10 got me a tour of some amazing houses! Tours typically run for an hour but you may ask the docent to narrate the tour for a shorter amount of time. Basically, I just wanted to take photos. The homes were clean and free of dust. This is particularly helpful for folks who have allergies. I didnt cough or sneeze once! Thanks for reading my review!

The houses are beautiful and very very impressive any time of year. We recently went while the homes were all decked out in Christmas glory. I love seeing the rooms decked out with Christmas trees and other Christmas decor. Make sure you catch the behinds the scenes your in the fall, very interesting. I personally thought all the wood carvings in the Hackley House were eerie and kind of strange and dark! It had some other cool features though. The Hume house was very pleasant and bright. These are scheduled tours and they are not in anyway handicap accessible but they do not tell you that until you are there and ready to do the tour!

This historic site is such a fine example of the life and surroundings of the top 1% in the gilded age. Both mansions are restored beautifully and are a remarkable sight to see. The tours are guided and the staff is great! I learned a lot about the homes, the owners, and the local area. I spent about 2 hours looking inside and out both properties and then spent the rest of the day viewing other local landmarks. I cant wait to go back, and it only cost $10 to join the tour! Enjoyable for the entire family!

Three homes and a fire station. The fire station was the first in the area built after a fire nearly destroyed the entire town. The first house was a topical house for the period and the other two were built by the people that established the first real fire station after the fire. They also established the largest logging and lumber business in the area. Well conducted tour, a must see when in the area

I highly recommend this tour. You need a good 1-2 hours to enjoy both houses. Our 6 year old son did well on the 1st house but didnt last for the 2nd one. I had to take a break with him and my wife finished the second house. Its very educational and gives you a prespective of how the rich lived at the turn of the century. The architecture (Queen Anne) is amazing and definitely worth seeing if youre in the area. There are historical homes on the same street that are private, but you can take a nice walk and observe from the outside.
