Tried this place before with my friend and I am hooked ever since. I liked the great ambience and flavorful dishes and beverages. Keep up the good work.

We met friends, had apps, drinks and watched a great show by Ty Stephens and Soul Jazz.

The venue is lovely. The music was fantastic. And the singing was out of this world. The food is terrific. I must for a nice small venue evening out for a little entertainment

I ordered a Cesar salad (12) with grilled shrimp ($6 extra for 3). Salad was very dry and definitely not worth the 18 bucks. my husband ordered a drink and a fly flew in it. got another drink and a fly was in that one as well. very disgusting.

Absolutely LOVE this place. The staff is excellent - they are the nicest people you could meet. Always attentive, with smiles and ready to help. The food is excellent. Ive been there for dinner and for just something light after dinner - never disappointed. And, the entertainment - always top shelf. Thursday nights they frequently have Bossa Nova night with 3 or 4 piece jazz band with terrific singers. The music is always at the perfect volume where you can enjoy it, yet still feel as if you can also enjoy the company at your table. I will continue to go back.

Great ambiance for a jazz club, good location. Busy night, so service took a little longer than usual, our server apologized and explained. He was polite and helpful. The band playing was great. It was a bit crammed since it was a busy night, but not bad. Ordered the calamari and chicken francaise. The calamari wasnt very good, but the chicken more than made up for it. Drinks were good too. Overall a great experience, would go again and recommend.

Great music venue, good food and cold drinks

I had to go here and listen to a performance for my jazz class and it was a waste of 42 dollars. Drinks on the menu cost 4 dollars but once the bill came each drink turned out to be 10 dollars each and including the 10 dollar music charge my bill was way more than expected. Waste of money as a college student I Could have used the 42 dollars for something else. I also ordered a hot tea when it arrived the water was not even hot. Do better Trumpets !!!!! Total rip off

Worked here for about a year good atmosphere helpful staff and the owners are like family

Ive been here a couple of times however last night was my last night.I was extremely disappointed. Drinks are overpriced but live music is my thing so I dont mind that part. What did bother me was being asked by a random lady sitting at the bar if I paid my bill before I walked out the door, as if. There was nothing welcoming about this place and I will never return again. Ever!!!

We got there late so we just enjoyed the last songs of the night. When they gave us the bill I was surprised that still we were charged for the entrance fee of $20/person. Great music though!

This is a music venue. Prepare to pay $20 admission fee. The service is slow. The food is mediocre at best. I didnt have any mixed drinks... so I dont know if the bar service is good or not. The walls are filthy. The ceiling is falling down. Its a pity.

Awful experience. My boyfriend and I decided to finally do something that is relaxing and different from what we are used to. So, we decided to try this place and let me tell you---it is misleading, overpriced and very little food to be had considering the price. We will not go there again, and for those who are interested in trying , please note that there is a music cover charge at the door (which they will not tell you until your bill comes ) and that charge for us was $20 per person Also, if you like food the same way we do, please also note that the food amount is not filling. My boyfriend requested pasta with meatballs and he got one little scoop of pasta and 2 meatballs . The drinks have little alcohol and the music fee that they charge you just make you not want to return to this type of place ever again. Unfortunately they lost two potential good customers.

Really wanted to like this place, but it was pretty bad. Service was fine (hence 2 stars instead of 1), seemed like a rookie bartender mixed my drink, musicians were good, but not my style of jazz. Calamari actually tasted like cardboard. Decor is fine, but not particularly nice. Gave it a shot, but now I know its worth it to travel into the city for live music & drinks.

My wife and I have been coming to Trumpets for a number of years for the Fantastic jazz music. The people who run this place really understand and support the history of this beautiful American art. The food is fantastic, and we are consistently taken care of by warm friendly knowledgable servers.

My girlfriend and I went to trumpets to celebrate her birthday. We got there an hour before closing and we were shocked when git the bull that we were charged $22 per person for music cover charge and only heard two songs the sign say a minimum of 12 dollars maximum of 22 the food was awful its a waste of its a waste of money I didnt even eat the food I ordered the drinks are very over price for such a venue and what was offered on their menu a lot they were out and the menu is limited I advise you to go to THE CITY. STAY AWAY TRUMPETS SUCKS

First time going and had a wonderful time! Our service was impeccable, the food was very tasty. The musicianship was classy, engaging, humorous and great! Live instrumentation at its best!

Honestly I took my mother in law here to celebrate her birthday. We waited over an hour to even order, and even still, the waiter didn’t come over to us, we had to go find him and make him place the order. About and 20 mins later we received water .. since we were all parched we devoured the water before we passed out from dehydration.Another 20/30 mins we got our appetizers , some lovely extremely over cook calamari that had the consistency of a tire from an 18 wheeler.We finally got the alcoholic beverages that were ordered and the strawberry daiquiri wasn’t even frozen, and it was beyond disgusting- it tasted like what I can only imagine toilet water with a splash of simple syrup would taste like.The penne vodka was very bland and by the time we actually got our food we were all starving we had no choice out to eat it because sending it back and ordering something else would’ve taken another hour and half - assuming our server even came back to our table.The manager ended up giving my mother in law a free glass of wine to compensate .. I guess it was a nice gesture but at $30 per person to get in, and the over priced food and drinks.. it’s definitely not worth it.Definitely going to White Castle after this place.

I know what your thinking...a jazz club in NJ, awesome! Do NOT bother. My friend and I went out to enjoy some jazz and good food. We are extremely courteous and well mannered people, but the staff thought otherwise. Let me give you the play by play. Lisa and I sat down ordered our drinks and meals before the entertainment began. We noticed that we were the youngest people there (30s), we had quiet conversation and once the music began we quieted down except for occasionally whispering to try each others food. I couldnt believe the waiter asked us to be quiet during our meal. I understand that the show was being recorded in a nearby range, however we surrounded by 65+ (with hearing aids) who were talking louder than the music itself! Also note we are no jazz club virgins and we know our manners! Why we wouldnt even dare to make a run to the bathroom until the set was over. So after we spent 200 together we tipped the minimum and got out of there ASAP! Thank you for treated us with such disrespect so we never spend a dime in Trumpets again. Ill go out of my way to make the journey to Blue Note or Smalls in NYC for now on.

Horrible place. Drunk owner made a scene over a request for 10 off 90 bill after flys continuously landed in my drink inside the dining area. Place is dirty and over priced 90 bucks for 2 salads and 1 entree. Completely embarrassed by yelling and banging on things my family over a reasonable request. Owners should not drink at the bar and then try to handle any customers. This restaurant is on a tail spin and just wants to grab a quick buck from people. I will be calling the board the health in Montclair, NJ to make a formal complaint about the health standards.

I went here on a Tuesday night for the Brazilian Night and Classic Bossa Nova event. I like the authenticity of the place but the place was understaffed the day we went (1 waitress for over 6 tables) and they ran out of most of the food offered on the menu.

My first time here. Wait staff sucks. Messed up out bill. Then had the nerve to update our bill after running our cards with the cover charge. Will never come here again. Get it together !

The jazz is just a band test playing in front of people whatever comes to their mind, And the service was awful. The servers were nice and kind but I never received what I ordered and was charged the music fee because of it, ridiculous.

Properly segregated club. Recommend making reservations if youre not white as they Ll try to turn you away. Expect sluggish service if they come by to ur section at all. Music s great though.

I went last night with my mom and sisters to celebrate mothers day. The music was great but i strongly recommend that when you go either order an appetizer or a salad.

My favorite little jazz spot near town. Its quaint and lively. The food is great when served on time and accurately.

My grade and I went here for a poetry slam, we paid 20 dollars for admission which wasn’t worth it. There was hair in the food, and the overall service and quality wasn’t great. The Pepsi was watered down, not to mention that if you go and order food, don’t have high expectations, and be prepared to clean out your wallet.

The food is terrible. We had a poetry slam and we got served pasta. I found a piece of hair in my pasta, so that says a lot. We also got served water pepsi. Also ridiculously expensive.

Its amazing to have such a great venue for live music located in Montclair NJ. My wife and i have gone to the club several times and heard a variety of terrific musicians, ranging from traditional jazz to some exciting latin groups. The club has an intimate feeling, and all the tables have a good view of the stage.The food is delicious and the service friendly and discrete. I highly recommend this club to any music lovers.

I frequent the club on regular basis, have had no issues at all with the staff, or the food... so I find some of the negative comments posted here perplexing... These comments have been described by being asked politely from staff members to keep their conversation to a minimum during a performance (witnessing this first hand)...Well, this is a standard policy in ALL jazz clubs, to show respect to the performers. There is nothing more disrespectful when a group of people hold a boisterous level of nonsensical chit-chat over someone trying to express themselves... this shows that the offenders, are either not educated in the arts, or oblivious to their conduct towards others, or possess a overly self absorbed nature...or in some cases... all the above. Finally, the comment about the age of the clientele have no relevance in the quality of a environment, that is simply pure discrimination which validates the above statement... Apologies, if this offends anyone... but respectfully just stating the facts.

The food is awful, penne alla vodka, but the music by Bajopontino, afro-Peruvian jazz and most of it original, is fabulous (Raul Abbad)! Theyre the reason Im here. My server was awful too!
