The Trailside museum is a small but informative museum with a mini-zoo. Inside the museum, there are multiple interesting exhibits, and you can tell the staff really care about the place. Multiple trails also start here which are very pretty.

Love this place, visited several times with my 2 children who enjoy this easy hike. We met there with 3 friends and their children a group of 12! Its just lovely and the view of Boston was the best of any day Ive visited previously. The kids ranged in age from 5 to 14- they all enjoyed themselves! Bring snacks for a treat at the top!

The Trailside museum was nice to walk through and see some animals you dont normally get to see. Owls, Deer, Hawks, Fox, Turkey Vulture. The otter and turtles display were being done over so they werent their unfortunately. The kids really like it. Benches to sit. Plaques with information on animals. Took a hike after seeing the animals. Lots of trails surrounding Museum. If you can make it to the top, the views are amazing.

The trails never fail to impress and I still have and use the map from the visitors center, best few bucks Ive ever spent. This is maybe my... second or third time at the trails and its always a sight to behold. Since the area is vast, you can always see different parts of the land over time and really get a good view. The trails are marked ever so clearly and if you go up high enough, youll see the city or at least the beautiful forester horizon.

Loved this place before Corona and loved it now that its reopened. Extemely safe. Theres a pre-registration system and they have limited hours on the weekend so be sure to reserve ahead of time. My 2 yr old son has loved this place since he could walk. Post-Corona, it has a one way path through the outdoor exhibits, the little musuem is closed and masks are required. The duck feeder station is no longer available, so be sure to bring your own healthy duck feed! It only takes about 15 minutes to leisurely stroll through the exhibits, but you can take advantage of the trails before or after (it gets pretty busy by the late morning though).

Great place to go with kids or anyone that loves nature and wildlife. Lots of different types of animals to see and learn about. Many hiking trails to venture. The museum has good regional native cultural artifacts and animal displays. Free parking. Inexpensive to get in, but free for Audubon Society members and their guests! Gift shop. Bonus is that $ spent at the Trailside helps wildlife and habitat conservation.

Trailside is dedicated to taking part in the preservation on local wildlife. They have taken in injured animals which would not survive on their own such as foxes, deer, eagles, and mbv any others. There is also a museum which reminds us of the Native American people km s which once lived there. They also gave displays of wild animals and their calls in the wild. This is a great place to take children to show them the Native creatures which still exist and did exist in the area.

Its often important to get introduced to the location youre visiting, and I found the Trailside Museum a great place to do so for Blue Hills Reservation in terms of location, information presented and staff helpfulness. The museum is the center for public interpretation of the reservation and a convenient place to enter as it has ample parking and 716 Shuttle MBTA shuttle access about a 15 minute hike from the top of Great Blue Hill where you can access the Skyline Trail, climb Eliot Observation Tower, and visit the Weather Observatory.Outside, there are spaces for wildlife that could not survive without human intervention, and inside, there is more such wildlife and information on the hills human history. The interior is well-themed for children but was not un-interesting to engage with as an adult. While I was at the museum, my camera batteries died, and my days plan to document the visitable history of the Blue Hills would have been completely ruined if not for one but TWO staff members finding me batteries (By the time I was done in the museum Im sure they wished they had given me the ones to the frog machine). It was a huge help, and it seemed like they really want people to enjoy their visit to the reservation. The only caveat was that I would return them when I returned from hiking, but I returned too late to give them back directly! I did put them in a box outside labeled Passport to Nature though, so hopefully the batteries were found and the staff knows their generous help was appreciated!Enjoy!

Say what you want about Zoos, they can be a very useful learning tool. For example, getting to see a red tailed hawk eating a mouse is a great example of the birds of prey concept for young ones. There are a number of bird feeders setup which allow native wild birds to fly over and eat while not being caged, so they provide that balance.

This is an easy trail that still offers a city view and a look at the skyline. The best time to go is the fall, but this short hike would also be really great during the winter. Ot is kid friendly and dog friendly as well. If the trail is too rough for you, you can pick up the access road part way through. The museum is nothing special but worth a pass through if taking the trail.

Great place for families. They specialize in rescuing injured wildlife. The river otter is adorable, and there are many birds (bald eagle, turkey vulture, and great horned owl to name a few) as well. Grandson thoroughly loved the Bald Eagle complete with bird sounds, the Sniwy Owl with appropriate sound also. He loved the River Otter Show complete with back flip. The new fox setting is awesome and the fox was standing very majestic upon a rock awaiting his next meal. Thank for the great time and thank You God for the beautiful day!!!!!

This is a tiny, mostly free little zoo featuring rescued native wildlife. Theres a pair of snowy owls, a fox, a pair of hawks, some turkey vultures, a bald eagle, some deer, some turtles, and a river otter. If you come at the right times you can see them feeding the animals. In the warm months the otter swims in her enclosure and does flips. If youre a Mass Audubon member theres a museum inside you can visit (or pay $5 if you arent a member) with some snakes, small mammals, and couple of owls. Its not the San Diego zoo, but its close and really easy. My kids love the animals and we go at least once a month. It combines well with a hike in the Blue Hills Reservation.
