A great historic house, and a great way to spend some time learning about the area. The staff are friendly and pleasant, and this is a house, go ahead and sit on the furniture. The grounds have more historic buildings, and there are frequent art events that add even more to the experience.

My wife and I originally wanted to hiking in the blue hills reservation, but couldnt get parked anywhere so we resigned ourselves to just going home and having a wasted journey. On the way out of Milton we spotted a sign for this museum and popped in on chance. We really enjoyed the visit and the staff were super friendly and helpful.

Spectacular mansion/castle. The artistry is astounding with every room a work of art. Each room has its own individually tiled & carved fireplace. May be one of the best restored & preserved houses Ive had the pleasure to see. The grounds are gorgeous. This should be on everyones old house tour list

Spectacular example of late 19th century architecture (for a VERY wealthy family). Beautiful interior, exterior, and grounds. Lots of quirkiness in a house that is warm and inviting, and which even 21st century guests could imagine living in (if they could afford the upkeep!). Outstanding interactive video guides in most rooms. You can spend a lot of time drilling down into the history of the house, its design, inspiration, original owners and descendants, changes over the years, etc. Or you can breeze through and just be amazed at every turn. The grounds are gorgeous. Theres lots of interesting information on the original landscaping and partially executed plans. Go see it; youll be glad you did!

Wow. What a cool place. No, it’s not the oldest house you can tour, and no, it’s not the biggest, either. However, it’s one of my favorite houses we’ve toured simply because of the level of preservation and the experience. The details are incredible and if you take a guided tour, you’ll be sure to learn about all of the details (it’s worth it). The coolest part about this house is that while it’s massive still, it feels livable. You could actually imagine a family occupying this home. Also, definitely go explore the grounds. There are some little hidden gems.

Visited here on Museum Day and was really happy I did. This place was always a mystery to me when I lived in Hyde Park so getting through the gates and touring the place was a real treat. The fact that the family still lived there just a few years ago with very little modern updates was amazing to me. Beautiful estate and I am sure that this venue will only get better.

Beautiful experience — and as others have said: the architectural details and historical elements make for a unique experience. They didn’t tell me this when I bought my admission ticket at the visitor center (separate small building just outside the Eustis Estate), but if you join Historic New England, then it essentially pays for your admission and gets you lots of other perks:- free admission to the Eustis Estate anytime- ability to utilize the grounds and picnic areas for a BYO picnic- free copy of vintage book in “America’s Kitchens”- free admission to the 15+ other estates around the New England area (would make for fun road trips around MA, RI, ME, NH, etc.The guy working the desk at the visitor center was not the friendliest person I’ve ever met, but once you get past that you’ll get better information from the various people working inside the Eustis Estate. There are large video screens in each room that alllow you to self-tour and deep-dive into historical information about each space and its contents (great visuals too), but I also liked having the same information on their mobile site and easy-to-navigate from my iphone. One thing that I wasn’t thrilled about was that they asked me to try to avoid being in the same room as the people who had paid for a guided tour. First, I was never even told about the option to have a guided tour when I bought my admission ticket. Second, I felt like it prevented me from spending quality amount of time in those spaces when I was there — just so those folks wouldn’t feel like I was stalking and listening.I almost missed it, but make sure you seek out the kitchen. It can be easy to miss since the hallway leading to it is a small corridor off the side of the entrance. Amazing old cast iron stove, knob & tube call boxes, and other cool and unique historical elements in this space. In the library upstairs, I met a wonderful woman who gave me lots of good info about the Eustis Estate. She convinced me to join Historic New England, and I went back to the visitor center to get my book and admission credited against my membership. I also plan to come back with my family for a picnic there while the weather is still nice.

The latest addition to the Historic New England family is a beautiful starter home thats thatd in the same family for three generations. It is more open to interaction than Im used to seeing in such a house. We can touch furniture, sit on some things, and its generally more accessible than I normally see. The interior is incredible, with some unique fireplace designs and intricate wood work. The outside has a beautiful lawn that would be great for a picnic.
