I really enjoy the park! I was a little big for us to walk the whole thing so we did not get to explore it all but we came here so my kids could enjoy the playground and boy they sure did!. They had a rock slide which was just super fun. The only reason why I will not give it 5 is on our way to bus the neighbor was fill with drug dealers and homeless. They were other tourist around but just watch yourself around this part of town.

This is one of those things that you do as an adult that makes you forget you are an adult and instantly transforms you into a 5 year old child, (in all the right ways). I so wish I would have met the witch but alas, I did not. It would have been my sole responsibility for that day to make her smile. perhaps next time? :) Its a quick ride, but so different than anything Ive done in ages that it makes for a really good story. Watch your head though, the slide on the right likes to make the flight a little difficult :)

Awesome place to visit with your dog or without a dog and you love watching dogs interact and run around having fun. Large open space. Absolutely love how you can choose your distance with the way you decide to walk. Nice downhil in the sand to get you by the water. Every time Ive been there people have been very nice and its a calm mellow feel. I would definitely recommend a visit to this park. Its even kept fairly clean! :-)

Ive been here for both daytime and nights (movies in the park) for various events; it is one of the very few surviving attractions in this part of the Grove. Very beautiful and earthy vibe. Great spot to take your date on a stroll and/or to escape the concrete jungle if only for an hour or so.

Sunday, biblically speaking is a day of rest. A pleasant walk throughout The Barnacle Historic Park and on such a lovely day, the sun is beaming warmly on the skin as a cool northeasterly wind guides our steps of tranquility, peace, meditation and love. It is the perfect time for gentle quiet between two souls which is cherished amongst the natural setting made by the Almighty, Omega. The beginning and the end.The one in which all things are possible.

The grounds of the park are really lovely, situated right on the water. It should be noted that there is no parking onsite, all parking is metered in the street and there is only a pedestrian entrance. While the $2 entrance fee covers the grounds, it does not include entrance into the house which can only be seen on guided tours offered several times a day for an additional cost.

Nice place to visit when in Coconut Grove, but... there is no the mangrove forest as described in tourist guides: just a few trees with difficult access through wet soil. The old building you can see only from outside. The park is full of tropical plants, but I expected mangrove forest, thats why 4 stars

Its a petite park thats right in the middle of Coconut Grove. We usually go early in the morning and the park ranger is always up and about making sure everything is just right. If you go for a walk, jog or even breakfast on Main, its a good place to stop by. A small slice of old Florida at its best.

This is a tiny strip of land in Coconut Grove from the main highway to the Bay. there is interesting history regarding the Pioneers in the area and preserved Flora showing what the coastline originally was like before everything was chopped down. In that way it is very interesting. it only takes about 30 minutes to walk the park. There is a house that is not currently open for tours. A nice peaceful place. Parking in on any side street.

Review №33

The walking path is beautiful and takes you back 120 years at least. The Barnacle is a gem and represents the real Coconut Grove. I remember in the late 1980s when there were no condos around and it felt magical. Some of that, although it is now a tiny sliver of land leading to the sea still exists. The area around the house is a mess. There is old furniture, racks of clothes and crates of junk all round the front of the house to the side of the entrance. To get a tour you have to go to another outbuilding and see if someone is there to give you a tour. Dont expect a guide at the front at the designated tour times. You have to go to the gift shop, which is hidden in another building to the side of the main house and look for someone. Old boats and equipment were all over the grounds in various states of disrepair. Such a Florida treasure should be cherished and taken better care of. Seems like the structure is well preserved, painted and such but please clean up!

I worked here for about a year while employed with this state agency and I must say I love this park. It is truly a hidden a gem. From the street you would never know what this place has to offer. As you are driving/walking into the venue you are surrounded by trees and possible think that its more a nature walk park until it opens up.The house on the property has so much history! Take a tour and learn all about it. The massive lawn area is home to a lot of events. Definitely stay abreast of those. They even have kid friendly events. They host weddings and can host many special events with some vendor restrictions. But the good thing is they have a list of vendors that meet their requirements. So if you are in the coral gables area, check them out. Even if its just for a stroll through the park! You wont be sorry!

Nice little walk in the few remaining Miami hammocks. Little signs tell you about the plants and historic buildings. Every weekend evening they have events, movies, folk bands (mostly) etc. Ive been to see a few bands and they sell food, beer, and wine. Bring your blanket and picnic basket and sit on the lawn. Its on Main Highway by all the restaurants and shops. Parkings a problem unless you want to pay. Well worth a visit while your in The Grove.

I really recommend this place park, if you want to have a good experience as a visitor, come to this place. It is a unique destination in the heart of coconut grove surrounded by nature and an interesting story behind it. I think is funny how many times I have been in that area but never heard of this place or was even aware of its existence. It is difficult to imagine that something that beautiful and with an important history was there. A really nice lady which last name I remember perfectly, Cabral was the one that meets us and the one that started giving us the tour. The Barnacle Historic Park is a place that could make you feel like if you are outside of your actual life. The wooden boat shape of the museum transports your mind from the present to the Miamis past, so you can see yourself living in those back times. The Barnacle museum exceeded all my expectations and changed my point of view about how interesting and impressive visiting museums could be. All the students should have the opportunity to visit and explore those interesting sites and feel the benefit and satisfaction of having classes outside.

The Barnacle is a historic home built in 1891. It was home to Ralph Middleton Munroe, one of Coconut Groves most influential pioneers. The home offers a glimpse of life, when all travel to and from Miami was by boat. Munroe sought to preserve the forest on his land, and cut out a small trail through the hammock, barely wide enough for one vehicle. Today, the property contains many large, old trees. The home is left in its natural state, and appears much as it did in Munroes days. The Barnacle is a great place to enjoy a picnic on the lawn, a tour through the hammocks, rocking in the chairs in the front porch, or a family night at one of their shows. Watch the sailboats go by and take a picnic basket. This site is definitely for the history buffs and peace and quiet seekers. I come here with my boyfriend and roam around. It is very peaceful. We take a blanket with some food and some wine and just chill while taking photos of the historic home. Cute getaway.

Beautiful little park. No beach, boat dock or swimming area, but the grass is nicely manicured and there is a very nice sized pavillion in the middle of the park to escape the sun and rain. Nobody was fishing. The very minimal fee for the house tour is absolutely worth the price. The park rangers clearly cherish their park and provide an extensive history dating back to the very beginning of the areas settlement when there were foot paths instead of roads. The information is so interesting that you fail to realize you are immersed in an extensive history lesson. The boat house was closed and is actually not the original due to hurricane damage.A previous response mentioned a gift shop, but I completely missed that part of the experience. Im guessing it is in one of the period appropriate buildings off to the left just as you emerge from the winding cement footpath and enter the park proper. I did not see any bbq pits or picnic tables so bring a lunch basket, beverages and a nice sized picnic blanket. There are a few trees for shade as well and plenty of room to throw a frisbee.Be sure to check the park calendar or call the rangers for any interesting special events being held there as well...and probably have free admission. It seems obvious that the park is set up for events by virtue of having that very large sturdy pavilion in the center. What makes this park even more special is that it is not clearly visible from the road and not well publicized so even when there is an event, the park is never overrun with people and the visitors that do come are calm and respectful. I promise you a delightful experience as evidenced by two youthful European travelers, just off a cruise ship who were so delighted with their rental bicycle adventure and discovery of the park that they exclaimed to anyone who would listen that the park adventure was far better than any of the off ship outings they had to pay for!
