This was a beautiful place. I just stumbled across it. We are here on vacation and just googled things to do and Im so glad we did. This place was absolutely beautiful. The gardens were stunning. The art collection was extensive. Its more than I imagined. We were literally just walking in not knowing what to expect and wearing shorts and t-shirts and were greeted with smiles. I suggest at least dress casual not touristy.

I visited today July 11, 2020. The gallery was closed so my son and I walked around the grounds. To be honest I dont know why its rated so high unless theyre talking about the gallery, which I do plan on checking out when it opens. The gardens/grounds were very unimpressive to me. There are actually very few flowers. Actually, I dont even know why they call it gardens. There are lots of trees and a few colored flowers, very few, so really no gardens. I did enjoy listening to the birds. There are not enough sculptures for my taste and I love sculptures. So, all and all Id say so so for now until I check out the museum.

Delightful garden and art museum! Very helpful and friendly staff. Fresh Flowers are many of the rooms, complementing the season and art work. Small cafe and gift shop are a nice touch as well. Amazing porcelain from Europe and the painting gallery is lovely. Perfume exibit on lone was very interesting and large.

No gardens just a lot of trees and very few sculptures but the scenery was nice. I enjoyed looking at the sprinklers and listening to the birds. Unfortunately, the museum was closed due to the virus. So, I didnt get a chance to go in, but I do plan on returning to check that out too. I dont understand why it got rated so high and why its called gardens because I only saw a few colored flowers, just lots of trees. The trees were nice though, I just expected to see flowers and sculptures and that was disappointing.

This place was listed in National Geographic Guide to Americas Public Gardens. A book Ive had for 20+ years. As we travel, Ill check this book, as well as Eccentric America for places to add to my travel experience. This garden (and associated gallery) did NOT disappoint. And actually the gallery inspired me to take a drawing class and begin sketch journalling, like the displayed Memphis Urban Sketchers journals. The gardens (Spring time!) were wonderful. The cafe food was healthy and tasty. Some AMAZING artwork from lesser known artists to MANY world-renowned artists!!!My lil new friend explored my sunglasses while I rested in the garden.Thank you, Vicki Less and others, for your sketch journal inspiration.

Since we were there in the late fall we couldnt get the full benefit of the grounds, which although nicely manicured had turned brown due to the weather. The galleries, one of which was the main floor of the former Dixon residence were nice and had excellent exhibits. We got to see the Friedel Dzubas exhibit which is there through January 5th, They offer senior and AAA discounts.

This is a great place for a pleasant garden walk and a beautiful art gallery. There is a permanent exhibit, of course, but I enjoy the temporary exhibits that come through. The variety is good in terms of media and culture.Ive been to several work-related conferences in the meeting room, which is a delightful setting.Saturday mornings before noon admission is free, so we drop by for a leisurely stroll through about once a month.During the summers, Food Truck Fridays are a lot of fun as well.

The gardens are very peaceful, and we wandered for a while before going inside. The collections there are small but beautiful, with very many famous painters and interesting art pieces. The temporary exhibit on display during our visit was on perfume, and was a very interesting plunge into this facet of history and art. My visit in the spring caught blooming gardens and trees. I enjoyed the setting as I hadnt on a previous visit in the winter. I was there for the State of the Art exhibit and enjoyed the found art theme. The shop is small and carried a nice array of interesting gifts. So much to see!

A great place to stretch your legs as well as see some artwork. The usual collection contains works by French Impressionists as well as installations by Jeff Koons, Rodin, and Jun Kaneiko. The grounds are manicured, with bubbling fountains and sculptures throughout. Also a great place for weddings and events, as they do rent the space out. Free on Saturday mornings and pay what you can all Tuesday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

We visited the Dixon to see the special Paxton exhibit. However, while traveling with a toddler our time (at least my time as the mom) was very limited. One of the security guards suggested we (my 20 month son and I) check out the new childrens interactive area that had just opened about two weeks ago. My son loved coloring and playing with the little toys in the childrens room. We had the opportunity to speak with one of the art teachers (believe his name was JT) and he was so kind, friendly and informative. If we lived in Memphis we would certainly plan to take advantage of all the art classes for kids! I loved hearing the history and vision of the childrens room and hope the children around Memphis enjoy it for years to come!

Great way to spend an hour or so!There seemed to be 3 major art exhibits available in early June. Portraits, pewter objects, and Impressionist art.I wasnt a big fan of portraits or pewter, but the rest of the paintings were lovely. The odd part was that the oil paintings were in areas with plenty of reflective light.Outside, there was an athletic event going on that we didnt find but could hear through the trees.Gorgeous gardens with trellis, plenty of chairs with matching tables and good walking others. A greenhouse was near the unique fountain.I didnt visit the gift shop or coffee shop.BoA, MOU participant

What a great way to spend our Friday afternoon. Me and my love went for lunch and decided to take in the Garden today. What a great idea that turn out to be. We meet some of the smart school age child on a field trip. We watching an artist paint a piece of art live. We bird watched say and read the paper and listen to the fountain stream water. If you have never experienced this Free part of Dixon Gallery and Garden , then you are missing an absolute master piece. Trust me on this one the kids will be thanking you for years and its so romantic. Next, week we explore the Dixon original family seating area.
