3.9.2019 This is the beat $5 you can spend if you like Asian art / statues. There were so much beautiful items to look at and read about. From hand carved tusks to Jade flower trees and hand stitched clothing in between, you get to see a little bit of everything from ancient Asia.PS There are public bathrooms in the center of the museum, this was helpful for me.

I loved this place! It is full of pretty pieces of Asian art and Jewish art too. The place is very quiet and not to crowded, so you can enjoy your visit and see all the pieces.

I was amazed and impressed at the collection this museum had. If you live in or near Memphis or are just visiting for the weekend, make time to stop by. You will not be disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful. Also, make sure to bring a few nickels so you can watch and listen to a self-playing piano and violin concert machine. That was really awesome!

This is a museum worth checking out. A hidden jewel in Memphis that I didn’t realize was here. Downtown on Mainstreet and has everything Asian. Beautiful art, carvings and jade figures, very detailed. There is so much history here. There is a souvenir shop. This weekend we went there was arts and crafts. Face painting, coloring and panda art paining. This was an assignment from Collierville Middle school and we were glad, this was a very educational experience.

Such an underrated muesum in Memphis. The art here is truly incredible! Ive already been here three times within a year and will happily visit again.

This was incredible! The collection has a wide range of art, focused on the Qing dynasty. More than the Smithsonian. The setting is a little shabby, but don’t let that dissuade you!

So much to see!! The ivory carvings are amazing up close there is nothing like it!! The jade sculptures too!! Trigger Warning to others just in case: holocaust area is a sensitive place and should only be visited by those who can appreciate learning more about the history. If you are highly sensitive to this I would skip that part.

Awesome experience..... were from out of state, but wish the whole family could have experienced this an saw it in person. Alot of cool pieces, as artist I can really appreicate the time an talent it takes to make such GREAT pieces.

Nice collection of Chinese carvings - including jade and ivory, vases, many pairs of Foo Dogs (guardian lions), imperial robes. Also a good collection of Judaic carvings, paintings and sculptures. There is a display showing the typical food and symbols of Chanukah and an example of a Passover Seder meal. Very interesting museum.

I was taken completely by surprise by the quality of this museum. It contains several rooms of amazing Asian art. They range from an entire room of intricately carved tusks (including some mammoth tusks) to rooms of jade ivory. My only disappointment was that most pieces did not include dates. The Judaic section was a surprise in that it consisted mainly of very recent art, although much of felt as it should have been older. The Holocaust section, of course, was intense. The admission is a mere $6 and still I had place virtually to myself. Not everything in Memphis is about music or civil rights. Give this museum a try.

Amazing collection of Asian (mostly Chinese) Jade and ivory, and some gorgeous textiles. Judaic collection has some nice pieces, but it is not on a par with the Asian collection.

This is a gallery absolutely worth visiting. Read a few.reviews that said it would be an hour or so visit but we spent close to 3 hours looking at everything. If you come to Memphis carve out some time to check this out.

Inexpensive and wonderful displays. We have been season ticket holders at the Orpheum for years and walked by without taking them time to go in. Definitely recommend it. Take a nickle.

This place is truly a treasure in the heart of downtown Memphis. The art, sculpture and furnishings are all amazing. The price of admission is low and is worth the money many times over. Whether you are from Memphis or visiting, you should put this place on your list of things to see.

Absolutely amazing. Everyone should visit when in Memphis.

They were closed the day that I went in. But theres still a lot you can see and read. Very beautiful artwork. And for the short things that you read, you get a lot of history out of it. It was clean and well-maintained. They had different hallways to walk down. But the artwork is so amazing. One of the coolest museums I got to go to yet.

The best museum exhibiting Chinese jade and ivory carving. I was out of breath seeing how detailed they were. I couldnt imagine how much work from artists those masterpieces required.

I want to see some dates of when the art was created. Am I looking at some Jade that is 1 year old 100 years old, of what. Not knowing much about Jade this was otherwise a wonderful place. Jam packed with art. Also included was an amazing display of photos and history of Memphis residents who are WW II Holocaust survivors.

So much to see!! The ivory carvings are amazing!

They were closed at the time that I went in. But with what they had on display without having to go through the doors and everything was really awesome! They had little Snippets of History next to those pieces they had in the museum. The artwork was breathtaking. I was so fascinated by it and I spent an entire hour and a half looking at everything that I could.

It had the most jade, and ivory collection Ive ever seen. Beautiful and intricate pieces. However everything looked like it was from China. Not representative of other Asian cultures. There was nothing represented by Japan, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia. Lets call it the chinese and judaic museum, and not Asian! Also, the pieces didnt have any estimated dates on them. Not even which dynasty it came from. Was the jade made last year or 300 years ago? That would be helpful.

I loved this museum. It has a neat vibe, plus I believe theres a teacher discount! The lady in the gift shop was helpful and nice. The exhibits are amazing.

Out of blue, I was invited to attend an event at Belz Museum in approximate 2015. It turned out to be one of my best museum experience worldwide because of its high quality collections, especially collections of Chinese artworks. It shall be a museum to visit in your bucket list. Highly recommend!

Great place for Asian culture.

The quality of this museum cannot be overstated. The finest and most extensive jade collection in the entire Southeast U.S. plus an incredible collection of modern art and a Holocaust Exhibition with pictures and stories. The last is not suitable for children under 13.

Walked in at 4:06 PM and found out they stop admittance 1 hour before closing. Would have been nice to know this through their web site before wasting time traveling across town last minute to squeeze in a tour.

What a jem for Memphis. The Belz Museum was a great day full of art exhibits that was so exquisite. I will be back again and recommend it to all my friends and family.

This was an incredible museum. Tucked away from the busyness of the Peabody Place plaza area, is this museum that transports you back in time and place. The Asian ivory and jade pieces are intricate and awe inspiring. One could spend hours just admiring the Asian pieces, and still not fully appreciate all the fine details. On the Judaic side, read the stories of Holocaust survivors and look at all the beautiful Jewish art pieces. Do not miss this hidden gem in Memphis.

This basement museum was an enjoyable hour or two at a very reasonable (~$5) price point. Located in downtown Memphis off of Beale Street, I was kind of surprised to not see anyone else at the exhibit, because its a perfect location to input a little culture into your food, shopping, and drinking experience of downtown Memphis.The exhibits were educational, exquisite, and well maintained covering mostly ancient Asian art (Jade and Ivory) and modern (1990s or later) Judaic art.

Belz museum is a hidden gem in Memphis. Excellent displays of asian and judaic art.

A surprising gem located downtown. Im not sure what my expectations were, but I was blown away! For only $6 (as of 9/4/16), you are able to see priceless artifacts of amazing cultures. Highly recommended!

Great collection. Awe-inspiring asian works generally from China. Giant ships and a carriage made from jade. Coupled with this is modern art from the Jewish perspective and a thought provoking Holocaust memorial.

I have been to this museum twice for after hours events and its a very nice place.

Surprising and impressive collection. Very much worth seeing. Take a couple of hours at least. The oriental collection is very impresive. The Jewish collection its mostly modern, with some good historical items.

If youre downtown & wondering how you should spend your afternoon, go check out the Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art. Theyve got a great collection w/ tons of interesting history. As an added bonus, you get to have lunch/dinner/dessert on the walk able part of Main Street. Grab the trolley for a ride down to the Civil Rights Museum afterwards or take a walk to Beale St. & the FedEx Forum or Autozone Park to catch a game!

This is an excellent museum that has a Judaica exhibit.

When you first walk in you dont expect the collection to be impressive, but as soon as you enter into the first room you are blown away by the detailed carving on the pieces. Definitely a must see museum.

Great exhibition

This is a hidden gem in Memphis. We found it on a walkabout and enjoyed all the exibits for several hours. The Asian art was facisinating and the Exibit of Jewish art was am eye opener too.
