Tiny museum but worth a look if you are interested in the Civil War or the Sultana tragedy itself. The volunteer was a super sweet lady full of stories and facts. Cute little town too just ten minutes from downtown Memphis.

Nice that someone made the effort to pay tribute to the Sultana disaster, since it is largely overlooked, especially considering the magnitude of the event in terms of loss of life. Michael, our host, was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed it.

My ancestor was aboard the Sultana when it exploded (his body was never recovered). The museum does an outstanding job of preserving the history of the worst maritime disaster in American history. Through informative and well planned out displays, you gain an immediate understanding of how the disaster came about. Also included are personal items from several of the survivors constructed from remains of the steamer. It is a significant event in Arkansas history that is overlooked. This museum, with its very knowledgeable staff, is absolutely worth visiting.

Very interesting. I never even knew about it until I was searching for things to do in the area. Its very tragic but worth learning about. Its not a large museum but its very interesting. I think they just take donations but I brought up donating at the end of the tour. The staff member was very friendly and knowledgeable.

It was a cool sunny day. Had just finished lunch when my wife, her sister and I pulled up to the museum. The guide/attendant was sitting outside ready for visitors. He welcomed us and began giving an orientation. We would be the only ones there for the forty five minute stay. The Sultana disaster was a heartbreaking tragedy that befell over two thousand Union soldiers returning home from two prisoner of war camps. We watched a short movie. After that we continued sitting there, having a nice conversation with our questions answered. There are pictures, artifacts, names of victims, survivors, illustrations on display and books for sale. I recommend the experience as time well spent.

The museum employee provided us with a guided tour. We watched a 7 minute video. The museum is very small. Admission was $5.00. The story of the Sultana sinking is an American tragedy that is not well known. The museum is a good starting point for learning about the disaster. Depending on how much you read, the tour takes 45 minutes or less.
