We stayed one night and deeply regretted it BECAUSE it was so wonderful. I cant remember what site we booked, but we had a corner spot that had a huge grassy area and a small beach. There was a trail that was between us and the beach, but very few people walked along the trail while we were there. We had great cell service with Verizon that allowed us to work remote. The host was very nice. Firewood was available for self-service purchase. The lakes were gorgeous. Bathrooms were warm and clean. It was very quiet and nicely manicured. The nearby town has great food. If Im ever in the area again, I will definitely stay there again. I might even go out of my way to stay there again.

Great park. Good size sites. Plenty of shade in the lower camp ground.

This campground exceeded expectations. We booked in advance and found the most beautiful spot right on the water. Everything about this place was great. The facilities were much cleaner than most camp grounds I’ve been to, staff was very friendly, campground was quiet. Rentals for kayak and canoe, small beach swimming area. Stellar sunsets/sunrises. We wish we’d had more time here, the views of the lake are simply breath taking.

Lake herman is a nice state park but if you looking to camp and want some privacy dont stay at sites next to the pond,they have a walking trail right along edge pond right by ypur campsite or even coming out right into your campsite so you constantly have people walking thru your camp,or riding their bikes thru,carrying their kayaks,dogs comin thru,kids runnin thru.its a real invasion to your privacy and site and people dont seem to care they intruding thru.theres other trails and big enough park that the park really shouldnt have put a trail next to the sites or coming into your site.made weekend verry unpleasant cause it.

Came on a Thursday and rented cabin 2. Very beautiful park with a well maintained beach...kids loved it. The cabin was very clean and grounds well maintained. My kids also enjoyed the playground. Make sure to visit the historic Luce cabin and family cemetery when you visit cool place to check out.

Great park with nice easy trails and lots of trees. Fishing is good too...

Great Park. The sites are spacious and the park was quiet while we were there. Swimming areas with small beachs. Very good for evening walks to watch the sunset We have a 26 5th wheel and had lots of room. There were a lot of big rigs there. I would recommend this Park.

Very nice campground. Narrow roads with trees really close through the park which makes a camper a tight fit in areas.

My parents brought me & my brother & sister here when we were younger, I loved it we always had a blast, I drive through the park now & it brings back some real good memories.

South Dakotas online camping reservation system is horrible. If you can be patient with the system this campground is top notch.

Have camped here over 25 years. Keep coming back because of the great trees, layout, beach, lake, etc. Finally got 50 amp services which was badly needed.

Besides the insane amount of moss on the shorelines, it is gorgeous and a great place to just relax

Very clean park, bathrooms are very clean, showers are very clean, they have canoe and kayak rentals and there are lots of biking and hiking trails.The lake is very nice to be on and the swimming beach is very clean.

Love the walking trails, many places to visit to grill or have different surroundings each time you visit.

Been going to this campground for years, the lake is a little stinky this time of year, but they all are.

Great staff, clean bathrooms and sites. Wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend if your looking for a place to get away and take the family camping.

Very nice swimming area for the kids, great barbecue grills, everyone was nice, the grass was mowed, and I didn’t see any bugs that bit us at all. They have canoes and kayakes for rent which are fun. Had a great time!

One of the nicest State Parks I have been through! Besides the nature being so beautiful, it is well kept. They have a swimming beach that is large enough for several people to partake in. Then across from the lower camping grounds, there is another swimming beach. I actually find that one to the better of the two. Another attraction is the Herman Luce cabin that shows how the pioneers lived before all the amenities of today was developed. Plus there are walking trails that go on for miles. If you enjoy exercise, this park has it all for you.

Beautiful campground

Lake was 82ish degrees and starting to turn green. There was plenty of room for boating and relaxing. Not busy at the boat launch either.

There was a long nice walk and 3 different park.

7-17-20. Bathrooms havent been cleaned all day. (Gross) especially now with virus. Been to 2 other South Dakota State Parks cleaned every hour. Not sure whats going on here!.

Fun environment. Lake is a little gross. Camp workers are nice and helpful. I enjoy coming to play disk golf. The new South Dakota native plants that have been planted are really fun to experience too. Easily one of my favorite places to be around Madison.

This park is one of the best i South Dakota. I have been to most of the state parks and this one is so taken care of. The lower campground is a little more shadier and has a nice side lake view

We loved our time here this past weekend. Very clean restrooms and spacious sites. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars was there were a couple sites that were loud past 11:30pm. There did not seem to be anyone patrolling the campground at night. Probably because it was late September. Overall great experience still for the family with small children.

We love going camping here. It is very kyak friendly. It is clean and quiet as well. The only negative is the campground hosts they are very unfriendly, especially the woman. We camp all over and they are the only hosts that do not say one word to you. They dont even say hi or wave when they drive by. They dont fit that very nice campground.

Love the loop around the campgrounds. Love the up keep . Bathrooms nice . Beaches are nice . Its very peaceful and quiet out here. The views are amazing .

Got yelled at by staff for no good reason, we had paddle boards in the corner of the swim area. Which was not posted in any of the rules that I could find.

Really enjoyed this park. Layout of campground is a bit confusing. Tent only area did not have any grass. Main campground had new showers and restrooms that were very nice. Large day use area.

Camped overnight at Lake Herman State Park. We shouldve stayed for a week! It was great. Quiet, peaceful, and lots of wildlife to enjoy. The park rangers were very friendly and helpful. The restrooms were kept clean and were very nice facilities for a campground.I would suggest packing your own food as the little town nearby didnt offer many things, and we didnt love that place we did eat at.Also be sure the watch for the entrance road! Its on a turn and is a little tricky if youre caught in traffic. But once youve seen it, youll remember it.

Top notch campground! Grounds are clean, bathrooms and showers are very nice and park staff is friendly! Layout is a bit confusing, it did take us about a day to figure it out. Lots of hiking opportunities, many private fishing spots and well maintained swimming beach. Canoe and kayak rentals are $15 for 3 hours or $30 for the day! Host campsite has free games you can check out (horse shoes, bocce ball, ladder golf, etc). We will be back!
