Hammonasset Beach State Park is a great place. From going to the Beach to Riding your bike on a path, this place has got you covered. The parking lot is very pretty. There is also a electric car charging place, out houses, A shaded picnic table area, a bike riding path, a beach with little fish and crabs that are harmless in fact, kids were playing with them. I had a very enjoyed day there with my family and Im sure you will too! Totally recommended!

This park surprises me more and more every time I visit. I had been previously just to go to the beach, but we recently went camping and it was great. Lots space for the kids ride bikes around and make friends. There is a playground, some volleyball courts, pavilions to rent, movie nights, and more! Easy to bike everywhere. There isnt much privacy at the sites, but for 2 or 3 groups who book connecting sites, it was a lot of fun.

This is a wonderful place to go for a beach in CT. Plenty of parking spaces even in the hot months. Since it’s a CT beach there are no huge waves, which make it perfect for ones with small children or not a fan of large waves. Can spend an entire day walking the beach & going exploring on a trail. There’s an adorable nature center also for little ones to educate them of the shoreline.

Beautiful beach.Sadly, since the State of CT changed admission price protocol to where people who have a vehicle registered in the State of CT no longer have to pay to get in; theres been an influx of what I refer to as riff-raff : people who picnic or enjoy the beach & leave their trash behind.Fathers day for example : there were families picnicking at Middle Beach in the grassy area.... after they had gone home, all their trash was still left in a huge pile on the ground. Its a great place for walking, biking, & swimming. Stay until sunset, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

Nice big beach, lots to do. We went one night for sunset & it was beautiful. It wasn’t too crowded, but there was SOO much trash left by people. We came back the next day during the day, it was PACKED. Very little social distancing at all. We walked far away from people as we could. They should definitely limit the admission. I also hated that the beach/water is filled with oyster shells everywhere.

Overall the park is great. Beautiful beach and surrounding wetlands. The last few years the State has made some long overdue improvements in the facilities. The only negative is the lack of supervision by Park personnel or State Police. When there are alot of people in one place theres always a few people that get out of hand with loud music, foul language, and occasional conflicts. This has happened to us at both the beach and while camping. We never see a Park Ranger or Police presence. If someone spoils the good time of those around them youre on your own.

Its a great beach to spend some time under the Sun. It was very clean, no trash around. The sand area is wide enough to allow families to social distance (15 ft). The beach has a lot of shells, just in case you dont like walking on stuff like that. The water is shallow for several feet in. The parking has a lot of spaces and its close to the beach entrance. There are several lots to choose from. The only set back is that there were a lot of flies bothering everyone un the area that we were sitting.

A great place to go relax and enjoy nature. With the recently redone sidewalk and new nature center, the beach is now more enjoyable and easier to walk around. Normally I’d give this beach 5 stars but the parking restrictions brought my review down. The lot gets closed and they refuse to re-open even though we’ve seen over 100 cars leave. Supposedly it doesn’t matter how many cars leave, it’s about how many people are on the beach. Get it together. Clearly too many people were allowed in to begin with and they are waiting for the beach to empty. Count how many people are in each car from the beginning so you can allow people in as some leave.

I went july 4 and it was very bad experience first they didnt let people go in after 10 I guess it was full had to park 2 miles away and walk. Get to the beach and it was very dirty and alot of trash in the water very upset that people dont take care of what they have for free. The camp site was by far the best thing I saw there. I ate a hotdog and fries but we had to wait at least 1 hour not organized for a large crowd. I dont think I will go back at all it is my opinion there are alot of people that love it there but my family and I wont go back. Stood there for like 2 hours and had to walk back when we get back towards where we park multiple car with ticket for different issue just be care where and how you park outside of park also dont park on the hight you will be fine to.

I searched for handicap accessible beaches and choose this beach. As i was paying to come in i asked about beach accessibility. It was clear i was going to the beach with my kiddos (my daughter uses a wheelchair and i was going to be pulling her and our gear in a cart with big wheels). I parked the car, unloaded all the beach stuff and the kids, pulled the cart to the beach and was immediately told the beach was closed due to threat of lightening. I went to the front desk to complain because i feel its wrong to take someones money knowing that what they are there to do isnt available. I was told it could open up in 30 and i could wait (not what the lifeguard said) but that that could continue for hours depending on if there was a threat of lightening. Im fine with being safe but The beach closure should have been communicated to the booths to tell paying people and let them make the choice to enter or not.The young man at the front was rude and sarcastic. I will never go to this beach again.

Great place to fish on the jetty as well. We have caught some cool fish there. Its a nice beach but Im not sure why I have to be subjected to trashy rap music at full blast, both in the parking lot and on the beach. Its a noise violation. Whats wrong with the sounds of nature? I wish park rangers would do something about this, but Im assuming theyre too afraid to say anything. I go weekly and this happens probably about 95% of the time. The middle beach parking lot & beach seems to be the worst area for this.

For a CT beach, we love Hammonassett. Plenty of room so you dont feel crowded, like other public beaches. I do wish the water was clearer, but due to naturally occurring organisms in Long Island Sound, it appears cloudy. Because its the Sound, it also lacks waves. But neither can be helped & doesnt stop us from enjoying the beach & water on a lovely day.

This is the best beach in Connecticut! It’s long and has natural sand dunes. There is a trail that runs the length of the beach as well and it was recently paved. There are several big pavilions with bathrooms, changing areas and some have food.If you want to camp there’s a large campground but you need to make reservations early as it fills fast, sometimes months in advance. There’s also a beautiful, new building that houses the nature center. Inside you will find birds, sea creatures, and Connecticut animals like snakes, frogs and turtles. The volunteers are filled with knowledge and ready to chat.

It seemed almost like they mix dirt with sand 2 make the beach bigger lol The water felt sticky and was full of seaweed. We usually go to ocean Beach where the waves are calm just like it was at hammonasset. Awesome camping place and lovely beach to keep yourself cool over the summer. You can call to reserve a place to stay. You can have a tent, Pop up vehicle tent and even a big RV. You can purchase a barrel for fire wood $12 and 2 dollors every day. If you want to go real camping out style you can buy a hand held grill and over the fire cook your food. I love the outdoor experience. The staff are very kind. You have bathrooms and showers Just incase you dont have the water to do so. The more you want to live like if your at home the more its gonna cost. The more you want to live like a real camper with your tent and your own food to cook over your fire the least it will cost.
