Craig, the events coordinator, was wonderful to work with. You can tell he really loves his job - he was very informative from the start, when we toured, and all the way to navigating Dance County COVID restrictions a few weeks before our wedding ceremony. We had our ceremony in front of the Wisconsin State Historical society which was absolutely gorgeous! For photos, Craig took us all around the building to some very picture perfect spots. All in all, it was a great experience thanks to Craig!*Photos taken by Pearl and Opal Photography. Go check them out - Jennifer is amazing to work with!*

This is the place to come for an authentic library experience: I thought I could get away with quietly sneaking a few bites of a sandwich out of my bag, since there was no one to be seen in the reading room - but then a bouncer-sized librarian materialized out of thin air just as I was taking my second bite. He held the do not eat food sign in front of my face, stared at me, and then walked away. Awesome. Five stars. Ill be coming back!

Great library to study. The hours are relatively good, and its always dead quiet on the second floor. Plus the classic university library green lamps definitely help.

The refurbished reading room is spectacular. It is a great place to study or just sit for a while if you are passing through Madison. Although it is integrated with the University library system, the Wisconsin Historical Society is completely open to the public.

The archives here are amazing. The archivists will be happy to see you. The main reading room is beautiful but hours are limited. Be sure to use the catalog online if youre looking for archives before arriving.

John Muirs Alarm Clock Desk is here. Before he was America’s most famous conservationist, John Muir was an ingenious mechanical inventor. This amazing invention was a hybrid alarm clock and study desk, that quite literally chucked Muir out of bed each morning. The contraption consisted of a clockwork desk attached directly to a collapsing bed. Built out of wood, it gently but firmly slid the sleeping Muir to the floor, while also lighting a lamp.

Beautiful building. Check out the reading room on the second floor. Great place for studying. Wish it had longer hours for those late-night study sessions, but still my favorite place to read and do homework.

Great place to study and unparalleled historical resource with the exception of the Library of Congress. Extremely valuable collection of artifacts that you just cant find anywhere else.
