This theatre company experience was so great! We watched their rendition of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. It was a two person play from the viewpoint of Charles Dickens and his assistant, and it was very entertaining and heartwarming. This is the same theatre company that does Shakespeare in Griffith Park every summer for free. I very much encourage people to go to one of their plays!

Responsible for the Los Angeles classic FreeShakespeare in the Park each summer, ISC has a performance space outside of Griffith Park. The Atwater Village location offers intimate reative and vivacious staged productions throughout the year. Our favorite is their fantastic telling of A Christmas Carol each December!! We live ISC!!

It was amazing to see Shakespeares Twelfth Night in Griffith Park with my bf and some friends on July 21, 2019. I was not sure I would like it, but the performance was hilarious and spell-binding. I particularly appreciated the diversity of the cast, their playful interaction with the audience at times, and their talent. Reviewers had warned about the yellow jackets, but they seemed to disappear after dusk, and being outside under the stars was enchanting. I would come again and again. Thank you ISC! Also, I am really glad I watched a youtube video explaining Twelfth Night before I went because that made it much more enjoyable.

Shakespeare in the park near the old zoo in Griffith park is really lovely and you can bring a picnic to the players on most summer evenings. I really enjoy it and would definitely say is worth the trip.

Wonderful, extraordinarily talented company of actors, producing excellent Shakespeare and contemporary works. The Casitas space is a terrific venue, and Griffith Park is wonderful for their free summer Shakespeare festival.

This event Shakespeare in the Park takes place at Griffith Park starting about 7pm. You bring your own things (blanket, food, etc) to picnic at the park while watching the play. They take a 15 minute break and there are very light refreshments which sold out quickly. Bring a jacket or something warm to wear as it gets cold. I had the best time in the world with hubby! The play was fabulous and truly free! They ask for donations and the play is so well done, you want to give! The bathrooms are just across the way; the set up of the stage and lighting and audio is well done. I want to support this group so they can keep doing fun things like this. The actors/actresses were excellent. They can sing and act! The Twelfth Night was funny and an all around fun play. The cast and crew did an awesome job and should be very proud. I highly recommend this to families, couples and friends. Its a great outing! Thank you Independent Shakespeare Company. You all rock!

This Shakespeare company is more than just a group of actors who produce plays by The Bard. They are a group of talented, passionate people who support their local communities, hold classes to teach voice and acting, and work with local high school drama departments mentoring aspiring actors and actresses. They embrace causes and support the arts in Los Angeles area.In addition to paid admission shows they produce and perform at their studio in Atwater Village, every summer they perform 2 plays in Griffith Park - for donations only. They perform well known Shakespeare plays such as Midsummer Nights Dream, Merchant of Venice or Romeo and Juliet, but each year they perform a lesser known play, which exposes many to the body of Shakespeares work who may not have had exposure to it had they not performed it free at Griffith Park. Each year they also perform A Christmas Carol, and at least one non-Shakespeeare play by a local writer. This group makes a point of incorporating modern references and rock music into their productions to make it relatable to all. They also are noted for their jokes and interactions with the audience, some of which I have experienced first hand. It is both a joy and pleasure to watch the actors transform themselves to portray the many different characters that Shakespeare wrote about in his plays. Ageless timeless tales that should be performed over and over again. If you can not afford a ticket to a play at their studio, on a case by case basis, will work with you to find an affordable way to attend. And if you cant attend plays at their studio, be sure to pack a picnic basket, grab your lawn chairs and blankets and watch them at Griffith Park. And at intermission, you have chance to take a selfie with the cast. You will not be disappointed.
