One of the countries very best public art installations! If you want Public Art Levitated Mass all to your self for amazing photos, go between 3 and 6 AM while they are lit up beautifully and all of the tourists are sound asleep. I would add this location to your must see, most iconic places in Los Angeles.
Went afterhours it seems. Didnt know a big rock closed but it does. Saw it from afar and it looked neat, guess I have to go back during actually hours.
Looks really cool. Definitely a popular space that people enjoy coming to take pictures of.
One of the must see exhibits at LACMA. Probably one of the most photographed and recognizable places in Los Angeles. Its like the leaning tower of LA, stick your hand up and if the angle is right you can take a pic that looks like you are holding the rock up.
You dont even have to go into the museums to have fun here. Case In point, the levitating rock...this installation outdoors screams selfie time!!
When we came here we were the only ones here. Got some pretty cool shots
ONE OF my favorite public spaces in all of LA, I go every chance i get
Unique installation. Well worth a side trip. Just hope that the big one doesnt hit while you are underneath!
Beautiful, natural, symmetrical yet asymmetrical at the same time. Its a nice piece of art!
Love the work. Hate the way the security guards police the area. Didnt stop me from getting this shot of my nephew flipped though. You cant kill kill art at the art museum.
A rock on a pedestal - what has our society come to? Ha ha.
Call me art illiterate, but its just a big Boulder and concrete. Bunch of yuppies hyping it up to be something its not
It’s a rock. well, nature is a true artist. Borobudur from 9th century in Indonesia or Angkor Wat in Cambodia that’s what called art/carving from rock.
Really great place for kids.
Amazing public art just behind LACMA.
Art?...perhaps in its broadest sense. Not sure of the artists intent since he doesnt say. Its the biggest rock Ive ever seen in an urban setting, just laying there in the middle of a field. And you can walk under it...cool. Very interesting, but not particularly creative.
Always a pleasure to see free public art on display!
Great spot if you can make the time. Really cool and insta-worthy.
It’s a rock...... sitting across a thick wall of concrete...... i guess i dont “get it”. Seems like a waste of resources and land
If one day the big rock falls on the head of someone .... ouch.
This stunning art display is incredibly basic - a single, colossal boulder propped over a walkway that is partially submerged in the earth. From far away it looks crazy - the closer you get the more amazed youll be - and being directly underneath it can evoke feelings of concern! A great piece of art that is in the rear space of the LACMA building.Pro tip - come early to this so you can experience it alone (or with a handful of people). During the day it this exhibit can get quite crowded.
Literally what the name says, a levitated giant rock
A very interesting piece of modern art. It explores the limit of rationnality when you are faced with danger -or what seems dangerous.
Good times
Beautiful place to visit with the family
Very unique design.
