It is refreshing to find a bar in Los Angels that isnt all douchey. We stopped in early in the night to grab some pre-dinner drinks. Happy hour is a great deal, with a good cocktail list, and pretty tasty nachos (we had to order them after we drooled over someone elses). Im sure it gets packed as the night goes on, but for an early drink, its a pretty good spot in Los Angels.

I would give less stars if this was just on service. Its not cool to harrass your client because you dont feel like accepting credit cards. The women on stage work so hard. No need to take away their art by some narcissistic bartender. Their beauty should be the only focus.

Id like to say that Ive been a fan of the Frolic since before it was cool, but its been cool for way too long. As a bar goer/resident of Hollywood in the 80s/90s/00s, I can say that Ive been drinking in the Frolic since before they went digital, since before they had a bathroom that worked (and accommodated handicapped peoples) and since before you could take the METRO to get there.

Went in on a whim for my birthday and was not disappointed!Talented and beautiful dancers, good tunes, and reasonably priced drinks.I was a few sheets to the wind upon arrival, but I dont remember having to pay a cover charge or there even being a drink minimum, making it a really fun place to go if youre on a bit of a budget. More money to give the dancers that way! There was no line to get in, and my partner and I were able to sit right up in front of the stage.Yes, it is small and does have a bit of a dive bar aesthetic, but thats exactly my vibe being an old punk rocker so I felt right at home.

Been to Jumbos dozens of times for the past 10 years & have always had a blast. However, the last time i was there was a horrible experience. The door man was extremely rude & refused to let my friend in just because he found free start parking. My friend was accused of not wanting to spend money & was therefore not allowed inside. We tried to reason with him & the manager but they treated us as if we were disposable. Ill never spend another dollar here & have advised all my friends to do the same.

We had a lot of fun at this queer-friendly burlesque club (I wouldnt call it a strip club). Girls stay clothed but perform interesting routines to an eclectic mix of music, from 80s New Wave to modern Hip Hop. Quite a fun and encouraging atmosphere. I didnt find it at all seedy or creepy. I was there with two male gay friends and straight female friend. Recommended for a unique LA experience.

Contrary to the name, I was pleased that there were no actual clowns on the premises. A cozy establishment where attractive millennials pay to watch other attractive millennials accomplish feats of daring-do onstage. Great song selection, honestly cannot say Ive ever seen someone dance to head like a hole, but I am 100% here for it. Good vibe, if youre into Joy Division and observing the local wildlife.

Better than a strip club, the girls here know how to work a pole. We went out last night and boy did we have a fun night coming here! The place was packed with awesome entertainers... It even inspired me to take up a pole dancing class soon at Be Spun! I cant wait, maybe one day youll see me up on that pole (doubtful)

A great spot when not too packed, the girls are great, real friendly, and the overall set up is pretty tasteful. I do wish the girls wouldn’t have to pick up their own money off the stage at the end of their set, but otherwise a great time and good strong pours of drinks.

Visiting from up north and my fiancé surprised me after a bar with a trip here when expecting to arrive at a different bar, we arrived pretty early so the crowd wasn’t so busy and forgetting it was a Monday night I didn’t expect it to get to packed but by the time 11/11:30 showed up it was almost a full house and all the dancers were always friendly on and off stage. Drinks were ehh priced, but that’s everywhere you go to drink, but for the entertainment the girls put on at a burlesque vibed scene it’s well worth the visit!! It was my fiancé’s first time to a bar like this and she loved the environment and staff and most definitely loved the show the ladies put on! Definitely will return next visit to town! Thank you Jumbos Clown Room!!

Waited in line for a hour only to walk out 5 minutes later. I mean seriously? Perhaps my friend and I wouldve stayed another 15 minutes if it wasnt for the super packed bar. Dudes shoulder to shoulder struggling to throw dollar bills at ever so deserving hot dancers. Clearly this is popular spot, why not expand the place, make it a bit bigger and alleviate not just the ridiculous lines but the inside as well. 3 stars for the sexy professor dancers.

Lets just call this what it is - an unpretentious strip club on Hollywood Blvd. What makes it unique? Cheap drinks, a great & friendly crowd, and dancers that emphasize talent and skill over plastic surgery and botox. If youre looking for an upscale strip club with private lap dances, this is not the place. If you just want to have a couple beers with your friends, where the dancing is more of a backdrop, come here. Also, there can be a long wait to get in on Saturdays, and its probably not worth waiting in line for more than 15 minutes.

Honestly a huge disappointment. First, its not really clown themed at all, they have like one or two signs up inside with their clown logo, thats it. Second, its not a strip club. The girls do not show anything, their outfits are pretty conservative, and they arent great dancers. Lastly, its too packed inside to enjoy anything.Congrats Jumbos, youre the only place Ive ever been that fails at both being a bar, and a strip club.

Took peoples advice and showed up early. Thank god we did! There was a line to get in 45minutes later! Because the place was small, they cant just let everyone in due to limited space. This isnt a strip joint. Just pole dancers showing off their moves. Some were enthusiastic and some seemed like they were on auto pilot just there to make money.PARKING:valet or street parkingTIPPING:is recommended so get some dollar bills :)CROWD:Not raunchy, I didnt get creeped out by the peeps around me. All the pervy creepers are probably at strip joint.ATTIRE:Casual, like going to a hole in the wall bar.The place is pretty small, you might get lucky and find a place to sit.The awesome part is its walking distance to harvard & stone. So once youre ready for something different then check out some burlesque dancers few feet down the street.

Make it rain dolla dolla bills yall!! :)I never in a million years would have imagined that my night at an innocent Yelp hair salon event would lead me to Jumbos Clown Room, but Im kinda glad it did!Jumbos Clown Room was part 3 of our Friday night debauchery. Some of my friends suggested coming here to experience some eye candy to end our night. I didnt know what to expect since Ive never even step foot into a strip club, but i walked out pleasantly entertained! When we arrived around 12pm, there was already a long line outside. There was a parking lot with valet parking but we got lucky and found street parking nearby in the residential area. The valet attendant kept suggesting for us to get a table for $20/each person for our group of 10 people to bypass the line. We decided against it and waited about 35 minutes to get in instead. Since we were the last group to be let in, we ended up staying until the end of the night for the last remaining shows. The place itself is very small and only holds a max of 40 people or so. Theres seating around the stage and limited standing room. We were able to snatch a table for 4 of us.Once the girls started coming out to perform, I realized it really wasnt as raunchy as I thought it would be.There was no nudity but the girls did dress in pretty provocative clothing, although it wasnt anything Ive never seen before at regular dance clubs.I admired how athletic some of these girls were during their performances. Some of them did some crazy tricks on the pole and we all admired in awe of their strength. If you want to end your night admiring sexy girls on strip poles and want to avoid the raunchiness of an actual strip club, Id definitely suggest Jumbos! Plus what better way to end the night than making it rain dolla bills?

If I had to imagine the back story of Jumbos it would go something like this:A guy obsessed with circus clowns decides to open a burlesque bar. He buys a bunch of velvet clown paintings, hangs them up and then plugs in the big Jumbos Clown Room sign and opens for business. It attracts a small but steady stream of tourists and proto-hipsters which is just enough to give the owner hope. The owner slides deep into debt chasing his elusive dream of running LAs hippest circus clown themed burlesque bar until his loans are sold to the Russian mob.The mob begins laundering money through the business and plans heists and other crimes at night in the rear corner booth. Girls are smuggled, passports confiscated, and they are forced to pay for their own dance music on a rundown jukebox. Years pass, dust collects on the clowns and the upholstery wears thin. One day, the feds catch on and the original owner is offered up as a patsy. He is convicted and sent to prison and Jumbos is reduced to a 50/50 liquor license. One of the mobsters buys a crock-pot, fills it with ketchup, and sticks it in the corner as their kitchen, and business resumes.Fast forward to 2000 when I move to LA and begin hearing rumors of a psuedo-strip club with a circus clown theme. Described as dingy, scary or just gross, it is a must see LA institution. So, one weekday afternoon, I set out in search of Jumbos and instead find bliss. The entrance is guarded by either a bouncer or a homeless man (or both) on a broken stool. I approach slowly and hear him snoring. Pushing open the entrance I remove mirrored aviators and squint as my vision adjusts to the dark. The dead eyes of a thousand clowns stare back at me from their black velvet prisons, wooden frames covered in a thick patina of dust. There are regular clowns, hobo clowns, rodeo clowns, and even child-molestery clowns but they are ALL sad clowns. The upholstery is a mix of duct tape and stuffing and the floor is concrete. The thin girl sadly gyrating on stage is dressed in half bikini and half lingerie and has a scar on her belly that is either a bad C-section or a really bad stab wound. I sit down in an empty stool as the woman behind the bar yells at me in a thick Russian accent, What do you want? She is a haggard 60 something but could easily pass for a really haggard 50 something. I order a margarita and she serves a bud light with an empty Styrofoam cup. I try to decline the cup but all she does is point a knotted finger at a crusty old crock pot in the corner and then makes a shooing gestures at me. I take my beer and head over, confused yet curious.Decade old blackened and chunky ketchup slowly bubbles like a tiny La Brea Tar Pit, collecting fat flies that hover around it and preserving them for future generations. The bartender stares so I pick up a filthy ladle and stir, releasing a stench of old tomatoes and vinegar. My eyes water, I leave the cup on the counter and return to my seat as the bartender gives me a disapproving look. Perfection.Jumbos becomes one of my regular stops for day drinking. I eventually move to the valley and it is six years before I see the inside of the Clown Room again.Current day:It appears that Jumbos may be under new management. Its cleaner, friendlier and the deco is moderately updated. I also noticed that the dancers seemed more hipster-burlesque than sad-addict and dont awkwardly approach patrons hinting at tips and adding drinks to their tabs. There was a good mix of girls and guys and everyone appeared to be under 50. My guess is that a big fan of the old bar wanted to rejuvenate it and preserve the experience but instead sterilized it and killed all that I loved about it. Still better than most LA dive bars.
